How long do you want to ignore this user?

I have seen few more impressive biographies. He was great at everything he did, and he did everything….and much of it drunk. He said he has no memory of many of the movies he made because he was drunk while filming. I always felt the disapproval of his father fueled his drinking.

Kris Kristofferson - Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kris_Kristofferson

"Kristofferson immediately enrolled in Pomona College. His early writing included prize-winning essays, and "The Rock" and "Gone Are the Days" were published in The Atlantic Monthly.

…Kristofferson attended Pomona College and experienced his first national exposure in 1958, appearing in the March 31 issue of Sports Illustrated for his achievements in collegiate rugby union, American football, and track and field.

…..Kristofferson graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, summa cum laude, in literature.

….In 1958, Kristofferson was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford,[9] studying at Merton College.[10] While at Oxford, he was awarded a Blue for boxing,[10] played rugby for his college, and began writing songs.

…In 1960, Kristofferson graduated with a B.Phil. degree in English literature.

…Kristofferson, under pressure from his family, joined the U.S. Army and was commissioned as a second lieutenant, attaining the rank of captain. He became a helicopter pilot after receiving flight training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He also completed Ranger School.

…1970 Kristofferson won Songwriter of the Year for the song at the Country Music Association Awards."

….The rest of his illustrious music and acting career is too voluminous to post here.

He had a long run for a hard liver…although he was sober for decades.

*The consensus is that Janis did Kris' song the most justice but I always preferred the Dead's version.

Rolling Stone did it proper:

Kris Kristofferson, Revered Songwriter Transcended Genre, Dead at 88

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/kris-kristofferson-dead-1107074/

"Still, for all his trailblazing, he was also content to allow fate and his spirituality to guide him. "I really have no anxiety about controlling my own life," Kristofferson told Rolling Stone in 2016. "Somehow I just slipped into it and it's worked. It's not up to me or you. I feel very lucky that [life]'s lasted so long because I've done so many things that could have knocked me out of it. But somehow I just always have the feeling that He knows what He's doing."

Damn.

In the mid-1990s I had a ticket package to see the Clippers at the old Sports Arena. It was the only way a younger me could afford to see stars like Michael Jordan play live and in person because it was so much cheaper than Lakers tickets. The Clippers had a decent team at the time as well so the games were competitive.

One cool thing about the Sports Arena was that the players had to pass by the fans on the way out of the stadium. Some of them would stop to talk and sign autographs. Some rushed by as quickly as possible. I interacted with a lot of NBA players that way.

When the Knicks came to town we waited outside for Patrick Ewing. He was one of those players that walked by as quickly as possible and didn't stop. A Jamaican woman with a heavy accent was ragging on him for not stopping to talk to her.

Patrick headed over to a black limousine with a sunroof and standing next to it were Alonzo Mourning and Dikembe Mutombo. They were playing for other teams at the time. I think one of them may have been in LA to play the Lakers. It was a Georgetown reunion.

It was crazy to see these three incredibly tall men pile into the limo together. As they drove off into LA traffic they all stood up with their heads poking out of the sunroof.

I never spoke to Dikembe, but that is my memory of him.

I have a hard time picturing those three big bodies fitting through one sunroof!
Would you care to clarify?

It was a big limousine and the sunroof extended almost the width of the car like this:

Also, those guys were tall but actually pretty skinny.

So forcing everyone into your thread wasn't enough for you? I think you have a bad case of mission creep.

Besides, you already have all your goddam Official This and Official That threads. Can't you just let me have the dueling Death threads of "Obituaries" and "Trump: waiting for The End"?
Oh wait, that last one is what I turn every thread into.

You're right -> Mission Creep.

Kristofferson's wife said Kris hated being told what to do so much that when someone would tell him to have a good day, his response was, "Don't tell me what to do!"

You can rest assured that from now on I will only post a picture or gif of the dirt napper in this thread.

I saw KK at a free concert in Golden Gate park in the mid to late 80s just across from the Academy of Sciences. Grace Slick, Marty Balin and Robert Blake were also there. I got lucky. Walked out of the building and there they were setting up!

Yeah, I mean, concordtom's ridin' herd over his thread. He's got to. He's seen what can happen to a thread that lacks the requisite leadership. Just look at the "Breaking News" thread: It started off great, serving its purpose, but then it got movielovered! Why? Lack of leadership. That libertarian s*** sounds great... in theory. But pretty soon, the trains don't run on time and people start posting obituaries that don't follow the optimal form.

Hey, nobody enjoys being chastised, but sometimes a guy's gotta take one for the greater good. Which is why the line I have said the most to my good friend concordtom is, "Thank you, Sir. May I have another?"

That you bent over and took one -- sort of -- for the team, bearister, only enhances your stature around here.

1. Thank you for backing me up, as predicted.
2. But you have it wrong - Bearister is saying that just out of youthful spite he's going to continue to F up MY thread by posting ONLY images.

I think I will retaliate by going onto findagrave and finding random images of people who have recently died and just posting them here, with no link, so that everyone can guess "oh, who died?"

Son of a *****, Bearister is an anarchist who is going to F everything up. Death photos is to be his calling card. Here! Let's start with this one, which you may recognize.

Look, this guy died!

I do enough research for the knuckleheads around here. If I post a photo, the guys that have good general knowledge will say, "F@uck, that guy died. Sh@it." …and then they will do their own research if they have an interest.

The ones that don't recognize the photo are dullards and they are equally disinterested in seeing any more info on the Marble Orchard dweller.

With regard to "My thread, my rules."…….

I dunno.
But if he's turning on you and me, then perhaps we should get our media labs ready for his own Obituary posting. Because that would indicate that CLEARLY he is losing his mind.

Update... I did the necessary research now, because Mr. Slothister is too Flocking Lazy to say anything further, and
Yes, Pete Rose is dead. At 83.
earlier today at his home in Las Vegas

Oh shoot, really! That's a bit sad for a baseball fan (of the past) who's life spanned Pete's career. Too bad Pete, you're a hall of famer on the field. Which is really where it counts.
