So sad.

He suffered a heart attack and nasty fall about 2 months ago.

The station did a segment on him at the hospital while he was recovering, with former anchor Julie Haener and former weatherman Bill Martin at his bedside giving him smiles and good spirits. He didnt look good.

Such a Bay Area icon.
We all grew up with Dennis!

Good chef, food lover, bon vivant and Cal alum Narsai David passed away in july.

Sad news that Narsai David has died at 87. Raised in Turlock, Narsai was a famous chef & champion for food & wine. A graduate of Turlock High & attending UC Berkeley, he became a well known caterer, notably for Bill Graham, even serving the Rolling Stones . His restaurant Narsai's in N. Berkeley was a trend setter. Through the years he was also an, author, TV & radio host & winery owner and remained connected to his Turlock roots. He died from complications of a fall he sustained last year.

RIP Gene Hackman at 95. One of our greatest actors.

Gene, his wife and their dog were all found dead in their home but foul play is not suspected. I'm not sure what that Ieaves for circumstances. Carbon monoxide poisoning?

Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Actor Gene Hackman and his wife were found dead in their home Wednesday under 'suspicious' circumstances. Here's what we know

Legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead in their New Mexico home Wednesday along with their dog in circumstances officials deemed "suspicious enough" to warrant thorough investigation.

The cause of death is not yet known. The pair did not have any external trauma and there were no immediate signs of foul play, according to preliminary autopsies and officials. Authorities also note there were no immediate signs of a carbon monoxide or natural gas leak.

The couple's bodies were found in separate rooms in their house, with scattered pills found next to Arakawa, according to police.

Hackman, 95, was an Oscar-winning actor known for his roles in films such as "The French Connection," "Hoosiers, "Unforgiven" and "The Firm." Arakawa, three decades Hackman's junior, was a classical pianist.

Here is what we know about their deaths.

911 caller saw Hackman and Arakawa lying on the floor through window

Hackman's and Arakawa's bodies were discovered by maintenance workers at the home just before 2 p.m. local time Wednesday, according to the sheriff's office affidavit for a search warrant obtained by CNN affiliate KOAT.

In a 911 call obtained by CNN, a caller said they could not enter the home but could see two unconscious people through the window.

"No, dude, they're not moving. Just send somebody out here really quick," the caller said.

Police responded to the call and discovered Arakawa's body on the ground inside a bathroom next to an orange prescription pill bottle with scattered pills on the floor, the affidavit said.

The body "showed obvious signs of death, body decomposition, bloating in her face and mumification (sic) in both hands and feet," the affidavit said.

Hackman's body was then found on the ground near the kitchen, in a similar condition. A walking cane and sunglasses lay next to the body. The deputy suspected he had suddenly fallen, the affidavit said.

A dog in a crate was also dead.
Two other dogs alive on the property.

It had been 2 weeks since maintenance workers had seen Hackman alive on the property.

I dunno, 95 is pretty good, Gene!!
And right before the Oscars so you can get special mention? That's cinematic timing!!

I saw him at a Day on the Green in Oakland in July,1974. He was a warm up act (as were Joe Walsh and Barnstorm, Rick Derringer and The Band) for the headliner, CSN&Y.

He had this hit single in the Bay Area at the time:

Age 76 is a decent run for a boxer. Due to the brutality of the sport (CTE) Mother Nature flips the off switch early. Some boxers he fought and their age at death:

Ali 74
Joe Frazier 67
Ron Lyle 70
Ken Norton 70
Jimmy Ellis 74
Jimmy Young 56

*George Chuvalo, whom Foreman never fought, is still alive at 87, albeit with dementia. They called him a human tomato can because you could beat him to a bloody pulp but never put him down. He went the distance.

Brothers Jerry and Mike Quarry were tough to knock down. They died at 53 and 55, respectively of CTE (then known as dementia pugilistica).
