The shift in the Democrats from a blue-collar, working class whites to more college educated whites has been interesting. Even when I was in my teens in the 80s, Democrats were viewed more along the lines of unions, rust belt, middle class workers. Republicans were more the educated, wealthy elitists with more refined tastes and views. It may be that universities are both a great way for people to view a broader scope of cultures and experiences as well as the heavily liberal tilt of the universities, but college educated whites are now a greater percentage of Democrats than Republicans. Doesn't necessarily mean they act liberal (no need to look beyond the VC crowd or the Hollywood crowd that they do not live out their beliefs) but they definitely affiliate themselves as liberal. In addition, I think people are just generally more educated now than before, especially with middle class jobs decreasing and women enrolling in colleges at a greater rate. Somehow, somewhere, the Republican party went from being the elitist, educated, refined to uneducated, middle class whites with the Democrats becoming more white elitist, educated and employed. Strange dynamic.SBGold said:Nah, it needs the educated vote (which it mostly has) and to gain some more of the uneducated vote. See the inroads that the Dems are making in the midwest and Penn. I don't understand these folks who say religious folks are uneducated. I think maybe folks in the rural areas are less educated, but I would put my education up against anyone here. I would put the education of folks from my church against the collective education here.dimitrig said:calbear93 said:The shift in the Democrats from a blue-collar, working class whites to more college educated whites has been interesting. Republican Party got in bed with religious nutjobs.
Sure, there are some wealthy and powerful people who are deeply religious, but most of them are undereducated.
If the GOP returned to caring about white collar job creation, tax cuts, and small government it might be more popular but instead they are focused on drag queens, abortions, and people being "woke" whatever the hell that means in the context they use it.

Don't they know their benevolent Republican overlords are only doing what is best for black people? They would know this if they would only start thinking like 75 year old white talk show listeners.dajo9 said:BearHunter said:

I wonder why most black people vote for Democrats? Note that the Republican Supreme Court surprised everybody with this ruling but the Republican Justices voted 2-4 against fairness for black voters and the liberal Justices voted 3-0 in favor of fairness for black voters. The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that Alabama diluted the power of Black voters in a congressional redistricting case. Charlie's showing why he's not a mathematician or an accountant. The report says there were 354 gunshot victims in 2022 (and 56 deaths). 83% of the gunshot victims were black. That means 294 of the gunshot victims were black. The 2020 census says there were 80,114 black people in Minneapolis. Simple division shows that there was 1 gunshot victim for every 272.5 black people. That's still pretty bad, but it's 55% lower than what your extremist right wing troll is claiming.BearHunter said:Source: https://t.co/Te4wiS6MSw

Also, the gun crime map shows that the vast majority of the gun crimes are occurring in two areas of Minneapolis that apparently correspond to the hood. Most of Minneapolis had little in the way of gun related crimes. It isn't all a shooting gallery.

There were 398 gunshot victims in 2021 vs 354 in 2022. That's certainly not going to end up 55% higher than the 2022 number I worked out. It was much lower than either of those years in 2019 and I can't find the data for 2020 in that report.oski003 said:Eastern Oregon Bear said:They must be using some form of math I'm unfamiliar with.
