Honest question for USAID defenders https://t.co/8UtQWl3oQh

You need someone outside of the system to do this. Shut it down and then we'll see what is needed and what isn't.Eastern Oregon Bear said:I don't disagree that government programs should be scrutinized, but it shouldn't be done at the whim of one lone unelected bureaucrat like Elon Musk. While some programs have probably outlived their usefulness, others are still very useful and just shutting everything down is foolish and reckless.Anarchistbear said:
I don't like Musk, but government should be scrutinized. Programs and departments go on forever without reasons for being.
That said he is biased, a liar and drawn to penny ante stuff. When he and his boys camp out at the pentagon for a couple of weeks I'll pay more attention
When it’s too dirty for the CIA, you give it to USAID.

USAID is not a front for the CIA.

It's worse than that.
USAID became its own unaccountable covert operations agency.
USAID ran covert ops without a presidential finding as required by law.
I would think that reigning in any and all spending is in everyone's interest. It's fine by me and I'm sure fine for most of America.sycasey said:AunBear89 said:

Silly analogy, but sure, I'll play along. I noticed a light bulb went out and as I went to change it I found my electrical line had been split in a thousand different directions. It turns out I was supplying power to the majority of the houses on my block for free while I paid an unbelievably high electricity bill. Then when I had the plumbing issue, after taking out some walls to find the problem, inside I found numerous doors and entrances that my neighbors were using to help themselves to my food, water, cable, internet, heat, etc. for free. I was essentially giving it all away! Then I hired someone to assist and I gave him $1,000 to fix these issues, but he keeps misplacing the money and now says he can't find over half of it. If anyone is looking to hire a handyman, DO NOT hire Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Associates!Eastern Oregon Bear said:I'm imagining that you tear down your house and start over every time you have a light bulb burn out or need to call a plumber.HKBear97! said:I'm sure Congress will catch up in time. Wrong. Once I find the issues, I repair them and leave what is working alone. I am imagining that you have a light that drains a light bulb every day and you just continuously replace the light bulb over and over again, not bothering to see if there is anything wrong with the fixture.

Fortunately, that is not the case. You're really good at assigning beliefs to me. I never stated much enthusiasm for Biden or Harris, just that they were preferable to Trump. That's a low bar to clear. As for your earlier assertions of my beliefs, I never promoted the pee tape, never got into Russiagate much as I hadn't spent time looking into it and my main concern about Hunter's laptop was the chain of custody. It spent a long time in the hands of people with a partisan agenda. I expect they had plenty of opportunities to tinker with the contents though I'll agree Hunter Biden is a low life scum.BearGoggles said:Fortunately, that is not the case. The narrative that Musk is making final decisions - much less solely making decisions - is fake news. Particularly ironic coming from those who supported Biden who pretty clearly was not making many of his own decisions.

You are not the only person in this thread asserting Musk was making decisions.
