President Donald Trump has announced a 35% baseline tariff rate for Canada on all imported goods not currently covered under expiring USMCA trade agreement.
Further, Trump plans to renegotiate the USMCA and end the trilateral agreement in favor of two bilateral trade deals. Previously, Canada's Sparkle Socks was incompetent, and Mexico's AMLO took a lead role in negotiating USMCA.
Recall that PM Justin Trudeau traveled to MAL and said if President Trump was to open the USMCA trade agreements to force reciprocity, and/or balance economic relations on non-tariff issues, then Canada would collapse upon itself economically.
In addition to the NATO shortfall, some argue Canada cannot survive as an independent North American nation, without receiving lopsuded one-way benefits from the U.S. Which is why President Trump said they could become our 51st state.
They refuse to exploit their vast natural resources, and to control their immigration, not to mention the alleged heavy influence of the Asian Triads and drug trade / laundering via casinos. These monies have made an expensive real estate market obscene, and prized Vancouver RE often owned by CCP officials. When I visited around 1998 Vancouver was pristine; it now looks like northern San Francisco.
