Argies consistently tried to break up the flow of the game, helped big time by the s#!@& half hour halftime and "hydration" breaks on a mild Summer afternoon.

Spain not that great at finishing but overall still the best team in the world.

Messi completely absent, didn't do much against decent opposition, showed his age today.

In fairness to him, his team couldn't hold onto the ball and then one of them got himself ejected. Messi could hardly get a chance at any late heroics.

They are a great team that was only challenged by Portugal. They are also young. The next 5-10 years they should be the favorite at any tournament they enter.

It is Argentina'a fault they are not in the same class as Spain? What were they supposed to do? I think playing defensive and hoping for a break was the right strategy. And kudos to them for beating a more talented English team.

As to the Messi stats, it is a team game. He did what he could. And he was brilliant in the semis. There are levels.

That was an amazing game to watch. Any time Argentina possessed the ball they were immediately swarmed and there was no place to pass the ball. It was like watching OKC play a HS team or something.

At least they did a better job than Chelsea did a year ago when Reece James lifted the trophy right with Trump in the center. I think they call this being an attention horror.

Lol, I say it like that not to criticize the ref, but to criticize Argentina - their tactics caught up with them.

It's fairly well known that central and South America teams play this way. Look at the Paraguay performance against France (and Mbappe just laughing them off in disgust).

Anyone who has followed USMNT contests in Central America knows what I'm talking about. Hotly contested games turn into acting farces, with players swarming referees to overwhelm and confuse him.

A yellow is flashed when the ref is fed up and won't have it any longer.

And the sad thing is, Enzo Fernandez CONTINUED in CR's face even after receiving the yellow, knowing the ref isn't likely to send him off either a second yellow. The gall!

Do I feel sorry for Argentina? Hell no !

With the WC sadly over, remember all the hand wringing before it started. Ticket prices that were too high, fewer tourists, hot weather, etc.. I remember a headline that was something like "Is the World Cup a failure before it has even started?" Umm, no. Like all human enterprises it is imperfect, and I could name a bunch of ways in which IMO it could improve. But I think it was mostly glorious and right team won. Fortunately, the world is mostly at peace and we can still come together to celebrate in this way. I hope we can again in 2030.
