How the big boys think: A close friend who is inside the decision making group at a perennial top 10 to top 25 football school yesterday expressed disenchantment with the coach they hired only recently because in recent weeks their results dropped them out of national title contention ((though they still could play in New Years Six): "The CEO's who fund our program don't put up with mistakes - people are fired, period. In this era of college sports, you can't fall behind. One more loss and our guy could be gone."
The Top 6 teams are undefeated.
The next 7 teams have one loss.
UTAH and ND are #14 and #15 with two losses each, but won last weekend.
Who's so upset over their team's chances after one loss with a new coach that still has a shot to play in "New Years Six"?
I call BS.
Sounds an awful lot like he's referring to USC, who now have 2 losses and, for all intents and purposes, have been written out of the NC discussion.
IF that's
who he is referring to, I think their donors are in for a rude awakening, as their remaining schedule is...challenging, to say the least (UW, @Oregon, UCLA).
