Honestly, I hope he's just being dishonest. I'd rather have a lying dishonest coach then a complete idiot who believes whatever crap he's spewing.
Either way he is a ******* moron

Alright sign me up I'll do it. I'm a software engineer by trade, Econ major, and armchair fan. I think I could make better decisions around game strategy than this. arghhhhh.

If going for 2-points after the first TD was such a good idea, why hasn't he tried this strategy in his previous 7 1/2 years at Cal?

14-year-olds playing EA College Football make better end-of-game decisions than this coaching staff...

Back to the topic at hand, when do we think we will get an update on Wilcox, starting with the dreaded "vote of confidence" email/tweet from Knowlton

Just wait until we eek out a win next week despite subpar coaching and suddenly the Wilcox apologists will be back in full force claiming how the past 3 games were just bad luck and we need to rally behind him.

Don't even have to wait until the next game. The apologists have surfaced in other threads.

We're still on track for a 6 win season (because of a weak schedule) and a crappy bowl game. We'll hear about how the program is "really building something" and the clown will be back for a 9th season.

We're a .500 team, all this talk about 6-0 etc is delusional. Football defines winners and losers and our coaches and players are not 6-0 performances. Poor coaching, dumb mistakes, choking in the moment

But this is where Wilcox prospers. Finish 7-5 and the season is deemed a success when we face North Texas State in the Ammo Bowl in Abilene

The thinnest of silver linings is that Cal won't be accused of "not giving the coach the time to succeed." Wilcox has had 8 years, and he now has an unprecedented level of support.

There will always be some folks that will back the HC no matter what. I want the team to win. I will support the players. The HC is not supportable IMO. But the team needs to win and the players deserve support.

If the team does win the HC will get some of the credit. That is how it works.

"Support" is difficult to rationalize when we continue to see the same insanity every Saturday, at least this weekend I will be preoccupied and not watching but the whole situation is literally nauseating

You stumbled onto something: Opposing coaches are always aware of tendencies... we had the surprise factor! And even if they suspected it, they surely wouldn't have expected us to use a low-percentage play like a non-QB passing! No one would do that; it was perfect!

Did you know?
Justin Draper Wilcox has the second worst winning percentage of active fbs coaches with more than 5 years at a single school….second only to Chris Creighton at eastern Michigan and Mike Neu at Ball state.
The caveat being that Neu won a mac championship and has taken his team to two bowls with a 1-1 record in 8 seasons…
And Creighton has taken his team to 6 bowls in 10 seasons with a 1-5 record and won a share of the MAC in 2022.
And even more interesting is that Neu makes $655k a year and Creighton makes $550k a year…

I think you mean third then, but even with the important caveats noted and the fact that no one has heard of the other 2 schools while we're the namesake university of the wealthiest state, I'm shocked there are actually 2 other schools that put up with coaches even remotely in the realm of how horrible Wilcox has been.

I think Wilcox should hire more of his friends to the staff. Might make a difference.

I think he needs to axe the running backs coach to add an additional defensive coach.

Did y'all forget there is no longer a limit on the number of coaches a team can have?

There is an 11 coach/staff limit for recruiting, but no longer for on field coaching.

Cal needs a Special Teams coach. A dedicated OL coach.

Not sure if our lack of additional coaches is lack of money or lack of confidence in Wilcox being able to find quality coaches for these positions.

So when do we end this thing, no longer stepping inside the stadium until it's done, might be on the hill for Big Game but that's all for now

I do think that's it. We don't start these games poorly, so prep must be decent. But as the game rolls along we get more predictable and things fall apart.

I'm completetly serious when I say that we need to be rooting to go winless the rest of the way. It sucks, it's messy, and it's horrible for the players, but we need to excise this cancer. Winning a couple of games the rest of the way will just mean more of the same for years to come. It's painfully clear that the AD is fine with mediocrity, so the only way to force the issue is to not even be mediocre.

Anything less and we're dooming all future players to more of this clownshow of a program.

I'll care about the big game. And maybe I'll care about 10% about osu just cause they're such trolls on twitter. But the only real thing that matters is going to be the offseason.

Troy is not a yes man, a huge plus in my opinion, a mark against in the Cal hiring process to be sure. It's a damn shame. I was a student when Kapp pulled him into duty as a true frosh. Dude was the far better Troy at UC (direct smack at Aikman dic"head)

The offseason won't matter if Wilcox is still our head coach going into next season. We could have all 4 a d 5 star players, and Wilcox would find ways to lose.

We are dead in the water if Wilcox is still around in 2025, the roster will become a portal clearing house

Ok, by offseason, of course I meant whether Wilcox is getting fired or not. Goodness
