I'm numb at this point. I just tune in now without much enthusiasm or hope and chuckle at the impressive variety of ways he finds to lose.

I'll care about the big game. And maybe I'll care about 10% about osu just cause they're such trolls on twitter. But the only real thing that matters is going to be the offseason.

The offseason won't matter if Wilcox is still our head coach going into next season. We could have all 4 a d 5 star players, and Wilcox would find ways to lose.
We are dead in the water if Wilcox is still around in 2025, the roster will become a portal clearing house

I think it will be sooner. People who are still capable of redshirting will opt to redshirt, some may publicly state they are entering the portal and leave the team, most who do plan on transferring will not play in the bowl game if there even is one .

What will Cal do? You know the story - sit on the sidelines and let the chips fall where they may.

That said, I can't blame the donors for not buying out yet another contract. I think Cal is really dying on the vine at this point.

Wilcox has to resign. We have to agree on a buyout. Eliminate the clause that has to find other employment in exchange for an immediate payment of half the money, instead of the three year payout. Allow him to put half in a retirement account somehow. Structure a payment plan. Do whatever needs to be done.

Great guy, can coach defense, can't get the best team he has had to a winning conference record. That is it. End of story. Time to move on. We are dead last in the ACC, losing to two other teams with us as their only conference win. We have reached rock bottom. We can no longer afford to support they guy that we all hoped would grow into the job. He has not and it is too late.

I have been a supporter because I have recognized how crappy Cal admin has been. But it is over for me now. Losing the 4th game in a row in the exact same way means that no one is learning their lessons. That is a huge failure. He did not fire the OC, and promote one of the many capable other coaches there - like have our TE coach step in to coach the line and maybe move our WR coach to be the OC, and promote some of the other guys. It is terrible what is going on, and truly fixable. There are a lot of tools for the head coach to use, and he apparently uses none of them in striving to create a positive work environment. I get that, but results are lacking.

A midseason tarmac'ing seems unlikely. I doubt they'll make a move postseason either with the big buyout.

It's been a slow and steady rot. He's finally run out of excuses for cover. No more COB, COVID, NIL to blame.

The only upshot I have seen (and maybe the only way out for him to avoid his tenure being killed in 6 weeks) is Tobias Merriweather might be finally ready to go, but otherwise it's Tuesday

We're last in the ACC (THE ****ING ACC) and we're in a grudge match this weekend, not optimistic that we win, and Wilcox...yeah

Nope. Not a great guy. No reason to say he is a good guy. He screwed his old boss over to get Tosh to recruit for Washington while we were still paying him.

Richard Winters was a good guy. John McCain was a good guy. Pete Newell was a good guy. John Adams was a good guy. Jimmy Carter is a good guy. John Wooden was a good guy. Patrick Laird is a good guy.

What good has Justin Wilcox ever done for this world?

Wilcox is a good linebacker coach. Not a great DC. Terrible HC. Not a good guy.

If Cal outsourced management and marketing of the revenue sports to a Cal alumni run not for profit, with voting shares based on donations (or per donor over a certain threshold) then the shareholder/fans would have that authority.

Very interesting stat, if true. Would be a uiseful stat to fire Wilcox, if true.

I'm hardly a fan of Wilcox, as I argued strenuously on Write For Califonia wnen he was extended that that was a dumb idea. But I might change my mind if someone would provide the stats that Wilcox's only wins, or at least a very high percentage of them (like 90%), occurred on Cal home turf.

In 63 conference games, 31 on the road, he has 2 road wins outside the state of California: OSU in 2018 and UW in 2019. Last year at UCLA was his only road conference win outside the Bay Area in the last 5 seasons. Hopefully we get another this weekend.

Appreciate the passion and consistency in your messaging Calumnus, but Wilcox is not going to be fired before 2026 at the very least. We will go 7-5 this season, possibly 8-4, and around 8-4 next year, give or take, with his buyout still in the 8 figures. That's the reality, barring some Cal alum hectomillionaires getting really upset with JW.

The focus should be on Knowlton.

Agree, Knowlton needs to go yesterday, with a smart visionary replacing him who can work with Lyons to figure out a creative solution to the financial problem Knowlton created.

We need an AD that knows what's needed for successful football and how to get it. That's exactly what UW did… it was more than just DeBoer.
If I had the new chancellor's ear (God forbid), because of the financial constraints, I would advise hiring a dynamite new AD FIRST, letting the new AD initially focus on reorganizing and reenergizing the athletic department and shepherding us into the ACC. I would advise riding with Wilcox as HC for a while longer until his buyout becomes more manageable. The buyout for Knowlton would be much less and and he could be replaced immediately. I'm assuming, of course, that we get a new chancellor who really cares about Cal athletics.

You only have to go to a cal official tailgate to get the chancellor's ear. Here's the problem, he doesn't listen.

Fire Wilcox and fire Knowlton for cause (McKeever situation/Wilcox contract) and force a settlement offer. Cal's only option is buy its way out of this steaming pile of cow dung.

F U Wilcox.

It was an easy pass to an open receiver on the 2 point and it was thrown nearly out of bounds.

Yes, kickers need to make 40 yard field goals.

Regardless, the head coach is ultimately responsible. He needs to get an OL coach. It may be too late. He loses any of his next 3, and he should get the axe.
Let the record shows oski003 moved the goal post once again.
