I don't think you can know whether they would have won. They have more firepower than they need. They adjusted around the addition of KD. If he never came, the other stars would have done more as they did previously. You are also assuming KD gets replaced with nobody. Maybe they get another star. Maybe they have a deeper team. KD gave them the best chance to win. Not the only chance.
They went 7 games and needed CP3 and 27 straight missed 3's (a huge outlier) to beat a Rockets team with 1 all star in his prime and a 2nd on the back 9 vs their 4 all stars. All of this with arguably the best scorer in the league that made them a super team. Yes the Warriors may have won with other all stars, but they don't win jack without adding an all star to that 73-9 team.
It was pointed out to me on tv that iggy did not play games 1-5 vs Rockets last year. He played 6&7 and we won those.

Did mark Jackson feed you that information?
Maybe Get Up! (or) The Jump.
I must have heard it wrong, but I was like, "oh, really?"
I should have known from my own recall of the series.

I think iggy has once and for all proved his injury was not a minor inconvenience for the dubs last year. That series could easily have gone 5.

If you count this year and last year's playoffs, when both iggy and cp3 play, dubs are 4-1. I'm sick and tired listening to the cp3 excuse
It's not an excuse. The reality of that series, wherever you come out on the impact of CP3 and Iggy, demonstrates the 'super team' narrative is not grounded in reality.

Why are you looking for either of those from the NBA?!?! Follow the benjamins.

On the blacktop or an adult league, you get knocked out for the kind of dirty shenanigans and passive aggressive BS you see in the NBA.

Kinda like what happens if you say the kind of crap (lies, threats, insults, racist, egotistical) that trump says? I'd love to play ball with him and kick his face in.

(Not to mention politically incorrect BS: misogynistic, xenophobic, homophobic)

Good point.
But my understanding is that the luxury penalties go up like a hockey stick the further you go over the limit. Thus, 1 dollar to PlayerX mean 4 dollars to league in form of penalty tax.
At some point, even warriors in Chase can't afford that, no?
I would assume that they're not willing to pay that

I don't and have not disputed that scoreboard is what matters.

But that's not why GS has been given the 'super team' and 'the nba is now unfair' label. They (media, fans) gave it to them the moment they signed Durant.

I really don't know what you think makes a super team. They signed Durant. Everyone thought they'd win. They went 16-1 in the playoffs. The next year everyone thought they'd win. They went 4-1,4-1, 4-3, 4-0. Or 16-5. So in the 2 years after signing Durant, they went 32-6 and totally dominated 7 series out of 8 including 2 finals. So one close series against an extremely good team makes them less than expected? This is the NBA. Guys compete. You cannot expect no one would put up a challenge.

Right. And he referenced the "unfair" commentary. The dumbest thing I read after the Warriors won last year was how the playoffs were boring and predictable, because the Warriors won. It was as if that incredible 7 game series with the Rockets never occurred.

..and as I watched it unfold my only thought was "Oh well, Kerr knows a lot more about hoop than I do." Warriors outboarded by 20. Klay and Steph 13 for 39 and Steph's dunk rejected by front of rim. OUCH!

I think Curry just missed another layup.

And yeah, I was sure the Warriors were going to take a quick shot there at the end, to get a chance at another. No idea why they didn't.

It means that if trump said the things he says on stage, behind the protection of police and security and secret service, if he said those things on the blacktop he'd get his fu-king ass kicked.

I think the super team criticism is partially just jealously.
Part of it is true, in that it gives one team a huge advantage. But at the same time, it's always been pretty awesome in sports to have a front runner that everyone else has to try and take down.

In track or swimming, the front runner is a world record time. Or number of total medals, be it Jesse Owens/Carl Lewis or Mark Spitz/Michael Phelps.

In football, we had the Lombardi Packers standard, then the Bradshaw Steelers, the Montana equaled those four SB's...

In basketball, the Celtics-Lakers rivalry built the sport up big time, then Jordan's Bulls with 6 titles was good for the sport.

What I'm getting at is that folks do not remember eras where there was one new winner every year. There is no high bar to leap over when that's the case. So, this warriors era is good for the sport. It allows for historical context, for a Goliath to bring down.

And when Goliath falls, it should be a very good story line, and a new champion will be appropriately crowned.

I agree, because the original 3-some will not be going 73-9, or winning a title without him.
They are individually and collectiv past their prime. Durant is an all-timer.
Curry has been one of the most important players in the history of the league because he has shown a new way to play the game, and everyone has mimicked it out to well beyond the 3-line. But, he's not a physical beast,a md so is limited in certain ways, and that has shown up, ately.

I'll also note that Curry is now into his 30s, an age when basketball players will usually start to show decline. That doesn't mean he "sucks" now or whatever, but he probably won't again be as good as he was during his 2015-16 peak.

We'll see how Iguodala responds now that there's only a one-day break between games. This is where losing Cousins really hurts because it means Iguodala has to play more than he really should ...

Huge game tonight. A loss means it's a three-game series, and as close as these games have been, all you need is a banked-in shot or two (ask the Blazers) and suddenly you lose.

1. Warriors need to push the ball because that is how they play the best. The Rockets' defense really clamps down on the half court offense; and
2. Don't just stand around watching the Rockets get rebounds. GET IN THERE!
