^ That aunt in question was his father's cousin, so technically not his aunt but very much an aunt figure, perhaps even referred to as an aunt in his culture.

Seems pretty trivial when the other guy has these kinds of issues - part of that $5 million must have been for the work he did representing Netanyahu :

In my wife's Greek family, pretty much every older female relative (besides your direct mother/grandmother/etc.) was just called "auntie" (or "theia" in Greek). A lot of families are like that.

NY Governor Kathy Hochul had her own "Let's Go Brandon" moment.

She was at Mamdani's rally when the crowd was chanting, "Tax the Rich!"

She went along with the cheer only to reveal the next day she thought the crowd was chanting, "Let's Go Bills!"

hahah the funny thing is Mamdani has openly said he doesn't support the NY Gov and she's so weak that she supported him anyway.

"Michael R. Bloomberg, New York City's billionaire former mayor, put $1.5 million into a super PAC supporting Andrew M. Cuomo's bid for mayor on Wednesday, and urged New Yorkers to vote for the former governor. "

Imagine putting 1.5 million into an expired parking meter on a Sunday

The guy who is attacking the youth of NYC for being ungrateful bolsheviks paid less than $1000 for his Manhattan rental at their age...

Manhattan real estate prices have been crazy for decades. A friend was an insurance industry VP who moved from the East Bay to Manhattan maybe 20 years ago, and had to hire a RE agent to find an apartment. He said "it was the first time since college I started going backwards financially". He then spent a year or more extricating himself.

I spoke with a tech sales person in the late 80s who was only breaking even making 100K. She said she spent $500 a month just on cabs, her rent more than double East Bay prices.

So why the apparent spike the past few decades? Supply and Demand a simple answer. Open borders, growing welfare class? A friend who lived in Brooklyn or the Bronx said 'things have changed.' She's older... I need to call her and ask for more feedback.

I really doubt that immigration is the reason for New York City prices going up. NYC has always had high immigration, regardless of what is happening at the border.

Hillary Clinton got away with stealing classified documents.

She was also mentally and physically unstable during the 2016 presidential campaign and Russia knew this but said NOTHING.

Part of me wants to see Mamdani take over because I personally think it's going to be a train wreck but funny to watch from a distance. If he was my mayor I'd be freaking out lol.

I feel the same way about Trump II. The nation deserves him.

In other news……

"Socialism beats capitalism among U.S. college students, Axios' Erica Pandey and Margaret Talev write from a new Axios-Generation Lab poll.

67% of survey respondents say they hold a positive or neutral association with the word "socialism," compared with 40% with the word "capitalism."

Why it matters: The survey reveals Gen Z's growing disillusionment with capitalism fueled by high inflation, surging health care and housing costs, and the rising influence of billionaires in politics, tech and media.

Negative views of capitalism handily outweigh those of socialism: 53% v. 23%.

Partisan differences are stark: 47% of Democratic respondents and 31% of independents but just 5% of Republicans react positively to socialism.

45% of Republicans, but just 17% of independents and 7% of Democrats, have positive reactions to capitalism.

The big picture: This rhymes with broader Gallup polling we told you about yesterday in our column about rising anti-AI socialism. Democrats view socialism more positively than capitalism, 66% to 42%. Among all voters, 54% view capitalism favorably down from 60% in 2021."Axios

*I'm not a fan of Socialism.

*It is a reaction to this:

*For me, the worst part of the country swinging Right, and the billionaires going along with it to get richer, is that, as Yogi points out, traditional Democrats and Moderates will do nothing to reverse it and young people see no future unless someone effectively takes on the b@st@rds.

In the context of this thread, Cuomo is still running for mayor and has had zero accountability for his catastrophic management of NYC retirement homes during covid. The guy should be in jail, not running for mayor again.

It's so funny to have all of these conservative Republicans who constantly talked s*** about Cuomo during COVID have to eat it and endorse him. (Which probably won't help his chances anyway.)

The last time I saw this many rich people panicking, Obama came in and put his thumb on the scales to prevent democracy. We'll see what happens tomorrow if all the scare tactics worked or not.

I don't even have any great hopes that Mamdani would do good things in New York. I just want to see if the people in this country have finally had enough of the establishment to do the exact opposite of what they're being told to do. Electing Trump twice was part of it, but that's only half the electorate.

Meanwhile, until he proves otherwise, I'm inclined to be more on the side of this.

But watching Republicans run the anti-Trump playbook? Now that's hilarious.

I don't think Trump has "Endorsed" him as much as it's a "at least he's better than the other guy." situation. But 88 is right in that Cuomo should be in prison for what he did during Covid. But he's not, and now New Yorks option is a crook and a crook with catastrophic economic policy that can hurt a lot of people.

I have no illusions that Mahdami will change the Democrats. New York City is not a place for that. He may well be another Bill de Blasio.

But it's way past time to break this yoke the two authoritarian parties have imposed from top down on the entire country and allow locals to choose governments that suit them and motivate people to change our rotten system

What is your evidence that Mamdani is a crook?

Rent control in NYC is going to help a whole lot more people than it will hurt, this is a place where around 70% are renters, and the average rent is $4K... Other policies that Mamdani advocates, like $30 minimum wage, might indeed be economically counterproductive. We can revisit this in 2 or 3 years.

Quote:

The monthly rent for an apartment in New York, NY is $4,500. A 1-bedroom apartment in New York, NY costs about $4,400 on average, while a 2-bedroom apartment is $5,082.
