Liberalized or former Muslim academics (several Canadian) claim 15 - 25% of Muslims are extremists, and drive the culture / Sharia Law / violence / actions.

When has Islam moderated in modern times? Not in Lebanon, Iran, or Western Europe.

In America.

Nabeel Qureshi's "Seeking Allah, Finding Jesus" discusses this point. He explains the ME version of Islam is rooted in an Authority based culture and that lends itself to extremism (lack of questioning > literalism), but Islam in the west is impacted by critical thinking / analysis and that leads to a softened version of Islam.

The worst strains of Islam were created and maintained by the UK, who in the 19th century armed and funded the Wahhabis in the Arabian peninsula in order to take over the region from the Ottomans, and in the postwar era, the US. For instance operation Timber Sycamore in Syria was a 15-year long mostly covert operation with a budget in the tens of billions whose goal was to arm Al Qaeda/ISIS elements in order to overthrow the Assad government and destabilize or dismantle the Syrian state.

Didn't they crash planes into buildings not that long ago? No one apologized for that.

Pretty sure we killed the guy who made that happen.

But that happened years after the fact. They had so much time to apologize but didn't.

Okay, and how does this relate to Mamdani again? What did he have to do with 9/11, having been 9 years old at the time?

Or are we just back to you guys not liking Muslims?

Those are not serious questions based on your original post in this thread.

The correct question is, why do liberals shy away from acknowledging that the majority of Muslim nations violently criminalize LGBTQ?

You're a staunch defender and advocate for the LGBTQ+ community? LOL

MAGAts love LGBTQ+, LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

As Biden's FTC Commisioner she resurrected decades old anti-trust policy from back in the long forgotten days when we actually used to enforce anti-trust. Corporate America hates her because does battle with the swamp.

My q-anon quant just posted the following:
--------------------------------------------------------------

The real losers last night were Newsom, Pritzker, and any other Democrat thinking about running for president in 2028.

Both governors have been competing against each other.
Both governors have also been trying their hardest to pick fights with Trump, in order to gain attention.

But now they are going to have to compete with Mamdani for attention, even within their own party.

Trump is going to publicly fight with Mamdani. He's going to force Mamdani to be the face of the Democratic Party (if he isn't already). It will force the entire party to move even more radically left.

Trump is going to elevate Mamdani and then put a microscope on his failures.

Then he's going to play pin the tail on the donkey. Every Mamdani failure is going to be pinned on Democratic candidates around the country.

Trump will ignore all the other Democratic candidates running for president by publicly picking fights with Mamdani to force the media to cover their disputes. Mamdani will take the bait and will receive more media attention for doing so.

Mamdani's popularity with the left will increase.

The entire media will focus on the public fight between Trump and Mamdani and suck all the media attention away from Gavin Newsom and the rest of the Democrats running for president.

With Trump not running again in 2028, whatever empty suit the Republicans nominate isn't going to strike fear into most Democrats.

With some strange irony, I see this as eerily familiar to the Presidential race, where a substantial portion of voters reacted to the country's elite and media, to basically say F/U I don't like the way things are going or what we are being told.

Mamdani received heat from both those in and outside of the city, and the party he represented on the ticket, all too often about his ideology and issues he would have no control over as mayor, such as the Israel/Hamas conflict. They bashed his appearance. They hardly focused on his plan for New York City, most of which will require help from governments outside the City, and overcoming legal challenges.

The path of traditional media's collapse is really a breakdown of it's business model and a breakdown of influence, the extent of which became clear in Trump's campaigns. Trump never ever sat down with any legacy media other than Fox News, and relied on podcasters and social media, such as appearing with people like Joe Rogan. In the New York City, Madami was often ostracized in many traditional media circles, and relied mostly on social media and influencers to push his campaign. I just think there is growing sense that the media cannot be trusted to tell people the news they believe is fair. IMO, a lot of this started when Fox News became openly right, CNN followed going left, and many left sources like MSNBC developed, while in radio many right sources develop. Moreover, a lot of the print media became openly partisan like the NYT and WSJ. The other side is that podcasters allows people to see the human side of Trump and Madami that the mainstream media deliberately won't cover.

It is an open question whether Mamdani will accomplish any of his major goals or even be able to implement most of his promises. All city spending flows through the Mayor, but his budget must then be approved and will be often amended by the 51-member City Council, which often has its own agendas. The mayor appoints heads of department and other bureaucracy, which will allow some policy to be implemented. So he has potential for doing some of the spending he desires. The mayor has no authority to raise the taxes he wants to raise, that authority resting at the State level. New York City residents are subject to both state and city income taxes. The state income tax rates vary depending on income brackets, and the city has its own tax brackets. The problem is the tax rates for each bracket are determined by the State, not the City. Major players in his own party at the State level, such as the Governor, have said thy are not chaining the present rates. This is a big issue because the city is not able to run a deficit - it can't go into debt to facilitate spending like the Federal government.

If Mamdani cannot raise these funds through the novel tax and fees that the City does control, then he will need to cut spending elsewhere to facilitate his campaign promises for the new spending on social services. Good luck with the city council. This doesn't address the flight of capital or people assuming Mamdani finds more novel ways to raise the huge revenues required for his spending plans. The taxes and fees the city has control over really don't lend themselves to even knowing the income level of who pays them. The initiatives about free transportation and housing violate contracts and bond covenants suggesting the court system will stymy those programs, absent some revenue source to take out bondholders and other third parties out of the equation, and there is no friendly SCOTUS court in New York to help him out like in Trump's case.

It might be time to start talking about Mamdani Derangement Syndrome.

So over $27 million was spent by billionaires in an attempt to stop Mamdani. Without that, he would have won by a much wider margin than 9 points.

Apparently only the Gov can raise these city taxes, and she already says she wouldn't. Yet he'll likely push some wealthy out. Opps. Where will he cut to provide more freebies?

First I've read of these claims:

"The nation's largest trucking company says it will no longer service New York City after Mamdani takes office:

"We've instructed our dispatchers to reject loads to any of the Five Burroughs," said Company Spokesman Joe Barron, "We don't see a way to continue doing business in the Big Apple.."

"The news comes as Mamdani released his plan to increase revenue across the city by quadrupling the cost of tolls, licensing, permits, and inspections of all commercial vehicles.

"He's going to put a lot of the independent truckers out of business." "

Cuomo got more of the older women vote, and younger men, like younger women, also voted mostly for Mamdani.
