In general I think AOC has been a pretty sharp politician, but her decision to keep supporting Biden even after the debate was a bizarre misstep.

This is stupid. That said, most all grading by strict percentages is stupid, so...

A baseball player gets a hit in 40% of his at bats: That must be an "F" (or at least a "D"), right? Oh wait, he's in the Hall of Fame...

An airline pilot lands his plane safely 97% of the time: 97%? That's for sure an "A", right? Oh wait...

Was there ever a time for you when 92% was a B plus? I'm over 50 and 90 has always been an A minus in every class I ever took with a grade.

Never. When grading by the percentages, 90% is usually the cut-off between "A-" and "B+".

The whole percentages thing is fairly arbitrary, though. I can construct multiple choice questions which will have widely varying scores just by manipulating the "distractors" (wrong answers).

Agreed. I prefer short answer over multiple choice when designing assessments

Each of the following was President of the United States except for _________.

a. Barack Obama
b. Joe Biden
c. Donald Trump
d. Alexander Hamilton

Compared to...

Each of the following was President of the United States except for __________.

a. John Tyler
b. Benjamin Harrison
c. Zachary Taylor
d. Alexander Hamilton

Multiple choice questions can be great if they are well-worded and well-constructed. Many are not (especially as they relate to the flawed grading concept of ... 90%+ = "A" ... 80%+ = "B" ... etc.)

Ebert never had the instincts to be able to identify a good lowbrow comedy, which is why he underrated so many movies that were popular with the public.
