Not sure when the USMNT plays next (CONCACAF Nations' League in September?).

But I was curious on how the roster and starting lineup is likely to evolve in the short term, understanding that there are longer-term prospects like Gozo on the horizon for 2030 and that some of the top-line players may not play when it's not a big tournament or if they are injured.

But let's pretend the US had to play in a critical match later in 2026 and everyone is healthy and available. For example, does Trusty replace Ream alongside Richards at center back? (Or perhaps move Freeman inside?)

Probably others have already answered this, but I would say the first order of business is "who is the coach going to be going forward?" Pochettino has been linked to other professional jobs.

But yes, you are asking the right questions. I would think Tim Ream has played close to his last matches. There might be some swan song, goodbye games, or maybe it's just the women that do that!

Poch has said his decision will be made by next week. For the next couple years what is mostly needed is for players to get better playing for their clubs.

Reading it that way sounds like decision is already made.
Bye bye.

This is pretty interesting, reffing a WC final is usually a huge privilege granted to the very best referee in the world who is not from either country playing...

That is six years ago. Not enough information to cloud this event over his career much later.

Come on Tuchel, put in 3 more defenders.

And screw the hydration break, totally destroys the flow of the game, hope we never see that monstrosity in any future WCs.

100%. I hate it so much. I hate it worse than flopping. But we both know it is not going anywhere.

BTW, Infantino is talking about a 64 team World Cup. Of course he is. Such a disgusting man.

I'm good with 64. That's better than 48 because you must finish top 2 and no complaints of what's happening in other groups.

I changed my mind on the tie breaker of beating the group opponent face to face replacing goal differential. There were too many groups decided early. But I'm not too bothered by it. Win your first two games and you get a reward of rest and sub rotation in game 3 (typically).

The hydration will likely forever be a WC profit center, though I hate it, too.

The long halftime tomorrow is horrible. Guys will go cold and still in the locker room. It's horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!! N

UEFA is going after Infantino, as is anyone in the football world who isn't rotten.

A short list indeed.

The problem is that every country has a vote, but almost every country will never host a world cup so what do they care? Corruption is inevitable.

Exactly pay off the minnows.
How do you think Qatar happened.

And whose to say it didn't happen this go around here?

Smart of England to save Saka for the third place game.

Sometimes as a player, you have moments that you miss, and you will never live down. Sometimes as a coach, you make foolish decisions in a moment, and you will never let them down.

I've NEVER seen a ref so consistently out of position, clogging the passing lanes, in the way of players run, where the hell did they get him from.
that seem to be happening quite a bit in this tournament. Maybe the only reason I saw it so much is because I watched so much damn soccer over this past month!

But yes, his positioning was horrible a couple of times screwing up shooting situations.

When I was center rough, I used to take criticism for not getting close enough to the action to see what was going on. I would always bark back that I didn't wanna be in the middle of a play.

Perhaps he is an imposter. Any mid level ref knows where to stand.

Aren't you looking forward to the HALF HOUR halftime tomorrow with BTS and 85 year old Madonna...

I heard there was going to be a Super Bowl like halftime show but did not know the details. I think I will go for a walk and switch bars during that time.

Ignoring that it annoys me, it is a perversion of the game. Soccer is like water polo. It is extremely strenuous with midfielders running over 10k in game. That is why a typical soccer player is like 150-160 pounds. No breaks but halftime makes players and teams have to make decisions on how to expend energy. You let them takes breaks and they can play all out all the time. Other players will stiffen up. It is not right. Somebody do something.

If I was going to do something it would have been 2 years ago. At this point, gotta just ride it out.

Was it some weird inpossible physical anomaly where Argentina played in the shade and their opponents played against them in scorching heat?

The sun is in their flag.
They can command the sun.

During the one half, Argentina was playing in the shade but their opponents in the sun. And when the two teams came back out at halftime, they were able to reverse the solar conditions.

Yes, it's a vast Argentinian Conspiracy, co-orchestrated by FIFA's referees.

Argentina's road to the World Cup final has been a story of survival. They haven't had an easy path - they've had to fight back again and again:

Group stage:
Argentina 3-0 Algeria
Argentina 2-0 Austria
Argentina 3-1 Jordan

Round of 32:
Argentina 3-2 Cape Verde (after extra time) - needed a late winner

Round of 16:
Argentina 3-2 Egypt - came back from 0-2 down with goals in the final minutes

Quarterfinal:
Argentina 3-1 Switzerland (after extra time) - Switzerland equalized before Argentina pulled away

Semifinal:
Argentina 2-1 England (after extra time) - England scored first, but Argentina came back again

Argentina never gives up. When they are against the wall, they find a way back.

"The match countdown; the advertising breaks; the Friday night at 'spoons music; the political interference; the interminable celebrity cut-away shots; the scandalous treatment of some teams, fans, and one referee; the dynamic pricing; the half-time show, the god awful rings; and the gnawing sense that unaccountable people have corrupted beyond recognition the thing you love in service of their own power and wealth while laughing at the stupidity of your inelastic demand.

Heat would have certainly benefitted many of Argentina's opponents, notably Cape Verde and Egypt, who are used to play in much hotter conditions and for whom US summer weather is mild. See Saudi arabia dominating a top Belgian team in the 94 world cup, played in 95F humid conditions in DC.
