Separate question: as an insurrectionist, would she be ineligible for a military funeral? I sure hope so.

We just watched the northernmost battle of the Civil War on national TV. . . what a crazy time to be alive. The US has never overcome our racist legacy and now it's 2021 and we've been fighting the Civil War for 160 years.

This is painful right here. I used to actually respect Ari Fleischer.
Can I reach through my computer and punch him in the face? There is so much wrong with this.
I will not and do not throw my allegiance to the President simply because he won. He was to win me over. And Trump was SO FAR from the mark that I would never do that. Yet, Ari seems to think that's the way it works. I'll admit, I did TRY to open the door wide enough for Trump. But right from the get go, and all through his time, he was HORRIBLE!
I thought Ari was going to say, "if you don't like what's going on today, go back 4 years and ask yourself why the F you voted for this clown."

Comparison in the response to BLM vs. Trump Terrorists.golden sloth said:
After being tied up with work for most of the day. It seems as though:
1. Trump provoked the crowd and told them to go to the Capitol building.
2. The crowd turned into a mob, and with surprising ease got entry to the building.
3. They wandered around trashing the place for a while (I'm curious to know how the deaths happened).
4. Other states had mobs attempt to storm their buildings.
5. Law Enforcement came and cleared the Capitol.
6. Biden was certified.
Thoughts:
1. If the goal was a coup, there were sporadic outbreaks nationally, but nothing serious ever got close to materializing.
2. Those in charge of Security at the Capitol & for the protest need to explain why there was such little resistance.
3. I fully reject the idea this was antifa.
4. The comparisons to the BLM movement are dumb and should be disregarded.
5. The speculation of how the police would have responded if this was a BLM protest is dumb and should be disregarded.
6. Minus a few Trumpers, nothing really changed.
7. The 25th amendment invoking is not going to happen, and security needs to be prepared at the inauguration.
Additional Thoughts Based on Watching Too Many Movies:
1. This would be great cover if someone wanted to infiltrate and destroy or steal key documents from the Capitol building. Potentially damning or sensitive documents.
2. This is great cover for some Republican congressmen to have an inflection point and now distance themselves from Trump.
Final Thought:
1. Trump may be a man without a country, but he has a nation, and Trump nation ain't leaving.

As far as I can tell, she attempted to jump through the broken door/window and someone on the other side shot her as she went through.
However, the police weren't doing any actual policing. The shooter never warned the crowd "Stop or I'll shoot" or anything to that effect and the police mingling with the crowed never attempted to regain control of the situation despite there being men armed with rifles on the scene UNTIL the woman had been shot.
This whole reaction by the Capitol Police is just bizarre.
The gaslighting is especially egregious. Blungld I would say is the worst offender. He gaslights anyone and everyone who says anything he doesn't like. He even did it to FiatLux on Growls when Fiat posted some innocuous post about COVID.MinotStateBeav said:Your pearl clutching and gas lighting is actually hilarious to watch. That isn't true. I saw another video and you could hear people in the mob several seconds before say he had a gun and several back off. You can't hear the warning but you can hear and see the response to the warning.
4 people are dead. These are dry runs. Most folks in the know realize that more is coming. They are using strong words for what has occurred. They are taking it seriously. This is not a media driven concern. It is concern of those in the know outside of the media as well. At no time in our history have our own people invaded a the national capital, broke windows and took the house floor, forcing the acting congress to be sequestered. This is not about how many folks were involved, nor is it about how the police handled it. It is about the incredible power of the internet to inflame insurrection, division and civil war. It has already happened in several other countries and now it is happening here. It is a dangerous virus that is potentially more lethal than covid. It is essentially Hal from 2001. And, if we don't take it seriously now, it will escalate just as not taking Trump seriously before has resulted in what we have now.dimitrig said:heartofthebear said:
Looking back on our history, I get the feeling that, with regard to our 2 most historic wars (the revolutionary war and the civil war), some folks in this country want a rematch. I guess they feel that the wrong side won. I shudder to think what the last 200+ years would have looked like had one of the other sides won. So I'm not sure what the motivation is. But crazy is as crazy does.
For all the hand-wringing and media coverage today's riot was not really a big deal compared to what might have been. A few hundred people, maybe a thousand, managed to enter the Capitol with the assistance - or incompetence - of the police.
This could have been a call to arms for Trump supporters across the US and it wasn't. Americans are pretty much United in opposition to what occurred.
Trump threw a match on the gunpowder and found out it was wet.

Post the link to the video where this happens. I am just reacting to the one that was posted. I do not hear any warning in that one. I will admit that doesn't mean someone didn't give one although the guy saying "It's just a flash bomb" and the fact that no one stopped surging forward until after the gunshot means they did not realize they were under threat of lethal force.
Make no mistake, I think that the shooting was probably justified but it seems like it could have been avoided if the police did their jobs.
