I loved Betty White, so I went up to them: “I’m so honored to meet you both.” And then I said, “Isn’t Linda great?” She said, “We came to see you.” I said, “Why?” “Because we heard you were funny.” I was elated.

Seriously, how is Dan Reeves not in the HOF? Played or coached in 9 Super Bowls. Two-time SB champ, two-time coach of the year.

To be technical, AWVS was more a civil defense/war effort support/Red Cross type organization. I doubt it counted as military service. To be cynical, it was probably something an actress could do to look like she was doing her part for the war effort without having it get in the way of her acting career. The uniform Betty White was wearing does make me wonder if she wore that for the AWVS or if she enlisted in the military, though Wikipedia doesn't mention an enlistment.BearForce2 said:We are saddened by the passing of Betty White.

"Lee Elder, who became the first Black golfer to play in The Masters in 1975, died Sunday at the age of 87, the PGA Tour announced today.
"The game of golf lost a hero in Lee Elder," Jack Nicklaus tweeted.
The big picture: Elder was 40 when he played in his first Masters, with many of his prime years already stolen from him by the scourge of racism, AP notes."

I took many golf lessons from Lucius Bateman from age 11 to age 16 (1965-1970). He originally taught at a driving range by the Oakland Airport called Airway Fairways, and then at a driving range in the back of Duggan's Sporting Goods by Bayfair Shopping Center in San Leandro. He was a great man.

It was many years later that I learned the tv show was based on a movie.
I think I saw part of it once decades ago. I was used to Hawkeye comedy and didn't like the darkness.
Now, of course, I'm grown up and would get all the political messaging I suspect was the crux of the film.

Betty White's death on Dec. 31 marked the fifth major figure from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" to pass in 2021. Actors Cloris Leachman, Gavin MacLeod, Ed Asner and director Jay Sandrich also died during the year that just ended.
The coincidental timing of the losses of these legends underscores the passage of time for the network television business. "Mary Tyler Moore," "All in the Family," "MASH" and other early 1970s shows ushered in the era of big ensemble comedy hits destined to endure as classics of the form.
TV historian Tim Brooks has dubbed this period the "relevance era," representing a backlash to the fantasy escapism of 1960s comedy hits such as "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeannie."
Mary Tyler Moore herself died in 2017. Ted Knight died in 1986. The show originally aired on CBS from September 19, 1970, to March 19, 1977. 168 episodes.
