Food and Energy will do that.
Biggest monthly CPI increase in 17 years. (+1.3%)
A 7.5% surge in energy prices accounted for nearly half of the increase in the CPI.
Gasoline prices jumped 11.2% in June after a 4.1% rise in May.
Natural gas prices rose 8.2%, the most since Oct. 2005.
The hope had been that a shift in spending from goods to services would help cool inflation.
But the super tight labor market is boosting wages and contributing higher prices for services.
There were nearly 2 jobs available in May, for every unemployed person.

I disagree. If something has peaked then it is trending lower. That is important in terms of taking action now that will affect the future.DiabloWags said:dajo9 said:Wage inflation also peaked in March and is tracking more the core CPI numbers.DiabloWags said:dajo9 said:

But again, it doesnt matter if wage inflation peaked.
Because the risk is that it will remain elevated for quite some time .... just like other indicators of inflation.

Lol.
Allow me to attempt.
The avg Joe doesn't understand what any political party stands for. Nor do they understand economic "jargon".
All he knows is that if the price of bread, milk and go up, it must be the fault of the current President.
The result is that he/she votes for the opposite party.
Tequilla4Kapp never stated in his post that he supports Trump. We can all agree that Trump is toxic and should never be near power while agreeing that Biden will be held accountable for what happens during his watch. No one wants to hear that the president takes no responsibility or that he has no solution. Ha ha - that guy and his quote is it's own thread. He wouldn't take responsibility for not flushing down his own feces.
but, again, the average Joe doesn't understand why, say, economic calamity resulting from the eventual big California quake should not be attached to the sitting President's policy platform.
If a quake ravages California, it won't matter who is in office - economic productivity will be affected.

I have enjoyed reading the posts since then, trying to learn things about finance and economics which are beyond my current knowledge. As a result, until this response, I have remained quiet because I have insufficient expertise in that area to contribute.
The response with the post from Trump and your piggy back on it are asinine. You assume I am attacking Biden and take pleasure in relying on that assumption to attack me (and liberals here have the predictable Pavlovian response of pointing to Trump). Jesus, can we never have a conversation without this *****
I made a statement of political fact - every president owns the things that happen on his watch. Republican, Democrat, beloved, hated...doesn't matter. I stand by it. Now how about we return to the economics discussion?

I agree that Biden should be held accountable in general terms. I disagree, however, that a president is responsible for the over-arching economic cycle. There are many things outside a president's control. Especially in a 4 year term!
Maybe if we had 20 year terms… and I'm not arguing for those.
Re your second bolder comment, I drove next to a pickup truck yesterday which had a bumper sticker: "if you don't like trump then you probably won't like me, and I'm okay with that."

I stated that people will hold Biden accountable for what happens during his presidency. That is a different take than whether Biden actually controlled all of the levels. What you wrote does not reflect how people will vote. You can call them idiots, etc., but that is just cursing at the sky. Presidents are accountable come election time for what happened during their presidency.
I assume you hold Trump responsible for all of the clusterf__k that happened during his presidency. Fair or not, leaders are judged by results. Just the way it is.
One other thing that I would mention. When one lacks meaningful grace toward others (I don't mean toward Trump), and you are hoping for death and are willing to burn everyone who disagrees with you at the stake, it is you who look horrible and not the ones you are besmirching. Maybe express your view point on Trump (as if it has not already been clear) and leave it at that instead of wishing ill will on people in your circle or even people you don't know. Nothing persuasive about what you are doing, and all that pissing you are doing is just going back at you. Take it as you will.
