Yes it's called the Chinese Virus. Not Coronavirus. Not COVID-19. Chinese Virus. Why can't we call it Chinese Virus? Racism? Please.
Don't you have anything better to do?hanky1 said:

What difference does it make what we call it? Can't we make better use of our time and energy than to argue about this?hanky1 said:

It's important at times like this to assign blame so everyone knows who to blame: China.Eastern Oregon Bear said:What difference does it make what we call it? Can't we make better use of our time and energy than to argue about this?hanky1 said:

The Chinese didn't attack the world with this disease, they were its first victims.hanky1 said:It's important at times like this to assign blame so everyone knows who to blame: China.Eastern Oregon Bear said:What difference does it make what we call it? You know exactly what you're doing by starting this thread, assshole. These are chaotic times and this kind of hate as a distraction or as a pure troll for its own sake is not well received by anyone right now.hanky1 said:

The source of the coronavirus is believed to be a "wet market" in Wuhan which sold both dead and live animals including fish and birds.
Such markets pose a heightened risk of viruses jumping from animals to humans because hygiene standards are difficult to maintain if live animals are being kept and butchered on site. Typically, they are also densely packed.
The animal source of the latest outbreak has not yet been identified, but the original host is thought to be bats. Bats were not sold at the Wuhan market but may have infected live chickens or other animals sold there.
Bats are host to a wide range of zoonotic viruses including Ebola, HIV and rabies.

And so we're running just as fast as we can
Holdin' on to one another's hand
Tryin' to get away into the night
And then you put your arms around me
And we tumble to the ground
And then you say
I think we're alone now
There doesn't seem to be anyone arou-ound
I think we're alone now
The beating of our hearts is the only sou-ound

No, it's not. It's far more important to work on solutions rather than on casting blame for something that was introduced accidentally and done far more harm near the source than it has here or anywhere else. Besides, everyone knows where it came from by now. Time to move on from that.hanky1 said:It's important at times like this to assign blame so everyone knows who to blame: China.Eastern Oregon Bear said:What difference does it make what we call it? PC ideology requires inferences like yours...what a time to play PC police. It is in fact a virus and pandemic originating in China. Just facts.Big C said:hanky1 said:It's important at times like this to assign blame so everyone knows who to blame: China.Eastern Oregon Bear said:What difference does it make what we call it? For the record, I thought the above emboldened post was pretty funny. A statesman calling it the Chinese Virus is not... at all.
Why? Both reflect origin. If a worldwide pandemic originated in America, what would be wrong to referring to it unofficially as the American Virus?BearForce2 said:
IMO, there's hate behind calling it the Chinese virus versus the Wuhan virus which is different because the latter refers to the specific point of origination.
Because Chinese can refer to ethnicity in a way American does not.GBear4Life said:Why? Both reflect origin. If a worldwide pandemic originated in America, what would be wrong to referring to it unofficially as the American Virus?BearForce2 said:

1. The second statement is not a fact. That is a hypothesis with very little supporting evidence.GBear4Life said:PC ideology requires inferences like yours...what a time to play PC police. Another fact: started at a "wet market" -- a PC term for an abhorrent an unsanitary animal carcass mill. PC ideologues will undoubtedly avoid at all costs criticizing this practice and its part in China's culture of barbarism and lack of sanitation...nevermind that humans next to them are dying as a result.
