The Trumpists always said there was a deep state, they just neglected to mention that it's full of Republicans and many of them are anti-democracy authoritarian nutjobs.

The deep state and the overall swamp includes both Democrats and Republicans.
The difference between a right wing conspiracy and the truth is about 20 months.

Interesting! McConnell has no real principles or loyalty; he will do whatever it takes to maintain or improve his standing. He's also not dumb, and there's a very good argument now that Trump is a drag on the Republican Party (especially in the Senate, where you have to win statewide races), not a benefit. This thing might actually happen.
Trump is now impeached and McConnell says nothing happens until Jan 19. So, he's punting on both confirmations AND impeachment.

There is little doubt in my mind that the Republicans will return in a week positioning themselves as VICTIMS, and EVERYTHING that happens will be to gum up the system. I expect them to continue to be nasty during confirmations and act just like the Dems did during Kavanaugh - THAT will be their playbook.

The benefit for McConnell would be to prevent Trump from running for office again, more than just getting him out of office a week earlier. I believe that can still happen even after Trump is out of office.

Peter Dale Scott wrote about deep politics and the deep state, but the term was hijacked by the trumpsters.
This just in: Republicans find another whistleblower who claims Hillary's emails were proven to be on Hunter's laptop while Obama spied on tRump as he sat (shat?) upon his golden toilet. Gym Jordan afraid whistle blower may be in danger of abduction by aliens in cahoots with Democrats.

Not as long as my 'Coronavirus vs Trump' thread - even during which I was out on an extended and unscripted 6 (more like 9) month long [vacation]. You're only halfway home, pup.

https://bearinsider.com/forums/6/topics/94376/1

Then there's Dajo's 'Final Election Prediction' thread, 34 pages long:
https://bearinsider.com/forums/6/topics/94376/1

But the king of all BI threads, would have to be, 326 pages long - I'll let you guess...
https://bearinsider.com/forums/3/topics/11616/0

and Part Deux, 186 pages:
https://bearinsider.com/forums/3/topics/28431/0

Funny... the end of that thread mirrors the end of the Trump Presidency.

The benefit for McConnell is to marginalize Trump and his family, Qanon bullshyte, White Supremecists, and the loud, powerful percentage of Republicans who have a psychological hold on a big enough percentage of the party that it is killing them in the center. The benefit is marginalizing going overboard with the conspiracy theory bullshyte. Because if the Republicans stay on this path they are screwed. Trump gave aid and comfort to the complete whackos in the party and that is why Republicans have lost suburban America. They cannot survive without it. If they don't reverse that trend immediately, those people will become hardened in their support for the Democrats.

It is questionable whether Trump did much for Republicans. He brought in new voters on his side who only vote when he is on the ballot, but he also brought in a lot of voters on the other side to vote against him.

The losses in Georgia solidified that Trump is not an electoral winner for Republicans: in four years, he lost them the House, Senate, and Presidency. First President to do that since Hoover, and the first to do that after taking over from another party since the 19th century (Hoover followed another Republican).

"The crowd that stormed the Capitol was a big tent of whiteness, a cross-section of American society bridging divisions of class, geography and demography. They were doctors and lawyers, florists and real estate agents, business executives, police officers, military veterans, at least one elected official and an Olympic gold medalist. They'd all come to coup for America.....

.... Now that the conspiracy mob has effected such carnage on the real world, we'd be foolish to suppose that its appetite has been sated, rather than only whetted. Monstrous online lies are not done with us. The Capitol is just the beginning."

Yeah.
Get Trump out, but somehow make it look like the damned Democrats are to blame for everything.

of note: where is McConnell and the GOP leadership condemning violence?
I bet they want more stuff to happen, so they can vote Trump out without repercussion. They are probably hoping some violent counter protestors show up.

I have one Facebook friend like this. It's not someone I knew well -- she's my wife's cousin who we've only met once or twice. I don't really understand her reasoning, because frankly nothing she says makes any sense. It seems to me more likely she's just been taken in by propaganda and conspiracy theories, to the point where she believes that the guy who was literally Obama's VP and who won as a moderate versus further-left candidates in the primary is about to bring in a Socialist/Marxist revolution even though Obama never did. And he's somehow going to do this with a 50/50 Senate and a conservative SCOTUS.

The propaganda is strong.

Very curious to see a BLM in there with Trumpists. That pretty much blows my mind.
I know that more blacks voted for Trump this time vs last time, and I simply cannot fathom why. Makes no sense to me, as I think SO much of what motivates Trump and so many of his followers is subconscious (and conscious, admittedly) racism and xenophobia.

Maybe it's like Elizabeth from Knoxville - "we're storming the castle! It's a revolution. (but, oh, I got maced - no fair.)" Some people just don't get it. (Like, 74M)
