Kamala Harris was a weak DA, a weak Senator, a weak VP, and a weak POTUS candidate.
Luckily, she is running against The Donald.
I do not think she would have come out of a fair primary as the Democrat candidate.
However, she's the only candidate other than Biden that the Dems could appoint without completely delegitimizing the process.

Would also add: As she doesn't really have a coherent ideology (other than being left of center... sometimes just a bit, sometimes a lot), she sometimes can appear to be a flip-flopper, or a hodge-podger (just made that one up!). Fortunately, Trump has lowered the level of debate to where "inconsistent policies" seem way above the concerns of the average voter. (Maybe they always were... )
She's the dumbest candidate since Dubya. Barely understands the issues, next to zero input over policies. In other words, a perfect candidate for those who have been running the country.
