Nobody is perfect. Prefer war or peace? An open or closed border? High or low inflation? I could argue you shouldn't throw away your vote, but I voted for Ross Perot twice... but Perot had a considerable following and helped get us the Tea Party, which helped later get us MAGA policies.
Bernie probably should have been the Democratic nominee in 2016 except for the DNC / HRC chicanery.

Regarding the WaPo, LAT and USAT choosing at the last minute to not endorse, I had three thoughts:
1. the respective publishers are either acting in their own personal financial interests... or chicken****
