Enforce borders, shrink spending, secure elections and want law and order. Which of these policies do you believe is radical?
None of them, but that's a rather loaded question, isn't it? Not to mention that I didn't use the word "radical".
In order (from above):
I am not well-versed nor super-interested in immigration policy, but I'd like to see limited, legal immigration. I am against rag-tag-looking armed "agents" combing our streets to reach their quota of undocumented people to be rounded up and put in camps.
I would like to see balanced budgets become the norm, not the rare exception (Thanks Bill Clinton!). We can then maybe, gradually, whittle down the national debt. The first place I would cut spending would be the military, starting with our ridiculous war with Iran. I would raise taxes a little bit, starting with those who have plenty.
I feel like our elections are secure. You realize Trump won two of the last three presidential elections, don't you? Were these the ones that lacked security, or only when your guy lost? That said, I am for voters presenting IDs at the polling place, If there is a move to curtail mail-in voting, I'm not really against that, either.
I am for people obeying the law, as are most all of us. I'd like to know more about what the "order" means (in the prhrase "law and order").
FDR's New Deal was all about improving the economic health & prosperity of Working Americans. An important component of this was having the Government support Union Membership. The point was to increase wages & salaries for Workers.
Megan Romer's "open borders" policy is the polar opposite of FDR's New Deal. In fact, it's more aligned with Milton Friedman's extreme Capitalist / bordering-on-fascist credo: that there should be no restriction on the movement of either Labor or Capital across national boundaries.
When Reagan took office in 1981, he let his CA supporters (who hired lots of undocumented workers) know that he wouldn't prosecute their illegal HIRING. That sparked a wave of immigration from Mexico & Central America that brought tens of millions of immigrants to the U.S. to work. Reagan's intention was to increase the
Supply of Labor in order to bring down the
Price of Labor -- and to make it more difficult for unions to overcome language & cultural barriers & organize.
This was just one of the ways in which Reagan, and every President since Reagan, sought to destroy FDR's New Deal.
Although I consider myself a Progressive / Democratic Socialist, I'm 100%
against unrestricted immigration. In the U.S., we have a huge surplus of Workers and not enough jobs for the Workers we have. So I strongly disagree with the "Democratic" Party's "the more, the merrier" policy on immigration.
But instead of our
barbaric ICE patrols, what we
should do is abolish ICE, and offer transportation, lump-sum payments, and guarantees of protection to any undocumented immigrants who choose to take the deal & self-deport. To fund this effort, we also need to go through the payrolls of U.S. employers and fine those who have ILLEGALLY employed undocumented Workers. IF these employers continue to employ the undocumented Workers, they would either continue to pay the fine, or apply for a work visa, and put them on a path to establish legal residency.
On balanced budgets and drastically reduced "defense" spending:
with you 100%. America, and the American People, are safest when we aren't exerting our hegemony over every nation & person on the planet. We've spent $Trillions on our military to create enemies throughout the world, and even more $Trillions to keep them from attacking us. Time for that business to end, and "play well with others". Maybe even remind ourselves that when we signed the UN Charter, it became the Law Of The Land, and we're STILL legally bound to follow it.
Our elections are reasonably secure. And on the 2020 Election Trump is an idiot. He lost, and he needs to get over it.
Our voting machines, however, are not verifiable, and should not be used. Vote on paper. Always. Hand-marked paper ballots are the international gold standard for democracies.
Furthermore, ALL of the acts of Voter Fraud and Election Fraud that Trump & the GOP allege are
felonies. So it's important to ask Trump & his administration, "How are those investigations & prosecutions going?" Clearly, all the baseless accusations of "illegals" voting were a ruse to create Voter ID laws -- which are clearly a form of vote suppression. Voters have always been required to present photo ID and/or birth certificates when they
register to vote -- but NOT when they actually vote. For voting, every polling place has a Poll Book, which every voter must sign -- and the signatures MUST match! This is
biometric authentication.
As for Law & Order -- Americans have always been for it, but our oligarchs & the Epstein Class have always considered themselves above the law. Disregard for the Law starts at the top.
