Assumed you didn't have a clue what you were talking about but to confirm I looked at the last few years rosters ...

2023 Rosters
Cal 33
UCSB 32
UOP 31
Long Beach 31
Pepperdine 29

UOP / CAL comparison only

2023
UOP 31 players
Cal 33 players

2022
UOP 29 players
Cal 30 players

2021
UOP 28 players
CAL 28 players

Also looks like the roster challenged Tigers signed 15 players in 2023

Optimism is growing.

Tuesday the 22nd looms as the day when the ACC may make an official vote

The economics are continuing to be negotiated. However, the Tweets and rumors that Stanford or anyone else will be taking no revenue are patently false. That's not to say that Cal and Stanford will get an equal share in year one as the discussion of what that number will be is likely what's holding up the proceedings at this point. When that is finalized, expect to it be far closer to an equal share than zero. And very likely a plan to get to equality in the not-too-distant future (similar to the UCLA, USC, UW, and OU deals with the B10).

Meanwhile, Cal will continue to have internal discussions about its forward-looking budget which at this point almost certainly requires material cuts to the existing supported sports programs.

Cal Athletics like all FBS schools utilizes football revenue (which for many years now has predominately come from media rights) to support a rich and diverse set of sports. Football is also the lynchpin of broader alumni outreach and academic donor support. In a potential future inside the ACC, it becomes imperative IMO for the University to ensure that Cal Football is well funded in order to be competitive such that it can continue to be the cash cow that supports the rest of the Athletic department. That funding is going to have to come from the University, the UCLA stipend, as well as donors.

More to come . . .
Is Calimony from UCLA a factor?
Absolutely, as is the elimination of sports
color me as skeptical as to the CaliMOney actually showing up. That said, including it into expected Cash Flows when pitching a change of conferences to higher ups is the exact right thing to do as it was the higher ups that committed to it.

On a personal level, I don't expect to see any direct payments from Southern Branch, but that's ok as the Regents will then be on the hook for that line item once they approve teh change of conferences.

What is this UCLA stipend you mention?
Regents create a "Berkeley Tax" for UCLA

"The Pac-12's upcoming deal will likely pale in comparison, so much so that the regents voted to have UCLA pay Cal, the system's remaining Pac-12 member, a "Berkeley tax" of $2 million to $10 million per year to offset what the school will lose in a Pac-12 without its Los Angeles schools."
BG: this has been reported in several press blogs (possibly the same rumor just being recycled?), but has anyone actually seen the official Minutes of the meeting where this was actually voted on? Bcos, obviously, if "$2-$10m" is not typed into the official Minutes, it does not exist.

Did you watch the meeting stream? It exists. The $10M ceiling was specifically raised as an amendment.

Regents/UCOP provide the funding to all campuses. There are many ways to redirect money from one campus to the other.

Ok. Why tomorrow? Negotiations, if there are any, have been going on for weeks. Now we're approaching some kind of deadline I guess. By now everyone's final final position must be known. Either a vote is flipped or not. So get this endless process over. Yes or no. Get the Zoom going and vote right now. Sheesh!

As has been stated in other threads by those more in the know, the ACC will not take a vote unless the answer is yes. If no, we will either wait forever or accept when its time to move on.

Those same in the know people on here suggested a few days ago that the vote would take place Tuesday. Why Tuesday? Probably because that was the time it would take to get the last details sorted out to convert the UNC/NCSU votes from a "no" to a "yes."

or Tuesday could just be when all the Presidents would be avaialbe by phone. It could be something unrelated, such as a President had a minor surgery scheduled for today, or was returning from Asia and didn't want to take the call from a plane.

as to your other point, yes, they will not take an official vote unless they have 12 positive nods. (saves face for all parties) And I'd bet that this is the last and final. If they don't get 12 Ayes, they send out an official statement thanking everyone for their interest and indicating that the ACC will not be expanding at this time. (which really means this year)

The NC schools seem closer to yes, and you only need one of them to flip. So the focus would be on what gets their vote. Clemson and FSU are likely much harder "no" votes.

If the NC schools vote yes tomorrow then it will be announced as unanimous with whatever the revenue splits end up being. A show of unity even if only for show will look good for recruiting for all conference schools. Clemson and FSU will be able to show they got more dough and all the others can say the conference is staying intact.

ACC insider here: the NC schools flipped. You're in with stanford. Just be aware what an awful mistake you've made. The acc has a contract with ESPN with a composition clause that allows ESPN to renegotiate payouts with schools, but not the acc to negotiate for more money. FSU and Clemson are going to slice the throat of the ACC sometime in the next year. ESPN will slash the payout to the bone after Clemson and FSU leave and the ACC will crumble if 8 schools find landing spots.

Also, prepare to get absolutely hosed on every single call in every single sport whenever you play a school from tobacco road. Pac 12 refs are like little children compared to the game rigging masters at work in the ACC.

That being said,
welcome aboard.

We have battered wife syndrome - we wouldn't be in a conference unless it hosed us on calls or used us a whipping boy. Thanks for the welcome - I'm sure we will feel right at home.

Just saw that CollegeAD reported that the ACC Presidents are scheduled to meet tomorrow.

Sheesh!
(Okay rant over).

Is the rest of the ACC against giving Clemson/FSU extra money? Some number would make them flip I'd think. Guess it also depends on what ESPN will kick in.

Appreciate the welcome and the info. I think I'm excited for a few years of this arrangement, but fully expect the drama to continue and the travel to become a burden.

Given that our choice appeared to be this or mid-major status, we will take the unstable ACC for now! Live to fight another day and all that.
