Tyler chat after thre killing from NYT

Tagging Mr. Robinson's username on Discord, a messaging platform, the acquaintance attached the images and wrote "wya" where you at? with a skull emoji, suggesting that Mr. Robinson, 22, looked like the man being sought.

Mr. Robinson replied within a minute. His "doppelganger," he wrote, was trying to "get me in trouble."
"Tyler killed Charlie!!!!" another user wrote, apparently in jest.

After Mr. Robinson joked that the gunman was his look-alike, another user suggested that the group could turn Mr. Robinson in and get the $100,000 reward that the F.B.I. was offering.

"Only if I get a cut," Mr. Robinson responded.

Someone posted, "Whatever you do, don't go to a mcdonalds anytime soon," a reference to the arrest of Luigi Mangione, who was found at a McDonald's restaurant and charged with the killing of a health insurance chief executive in Manhattan.

Calling Trump, Hitler and his followers, Nazis, are acceptable but celebrating Charlie's assassination can get you fired? I'm not sure I understand the left-wing rulebook anymore.

The firings are being done by employers, many being school districts.https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/charlie-kirk-death-teachers-professors-nationwide-fired-disciplined-s-rcna230845

The right is intent on enforcing the cancel culture rules that were established by the left in COVID and BLM days, which included not only firings but debanking, deplatforming, etc.

Like you, I don't like the rules of engagement. But those are the rules - that shipped sailed a long time ago.

But the argument on the right was that this kind of cancel culture would just unfairly sweep up a bunch of innocent people and ruin their lives (I actually agreed on that point and was not entirely comfortable with where some of the #MeToo stuff went, for example). So where does that end? You think the right won't face a backlash at some point if they do the same thing?

The primary argument was that people were being cancelled for things that were not outside the Overton window, for things that were objectively true, and/or for statements that were not woke enough. Like saying that the COVID vaccine didn't prevent covid (which was true) and saying "all lives matter", which were cancellable offenses. It wasn't really a question of innocence, but rather intolerance of dissenting views.

That was the argument. Doesn't matter any more because conservatives are tired of having different rules apply to them and now want to enforce the same rules against the left. And the right isn't fearing backlash because: (i) they have already suffered from these rules on the front end; (ii) they think the country has to some extent rejected many of the left's excesses (e.g., trans athletes in womens sports); and (iii) most importantly, if/when the left regains political power, they fully expect the left to revert to their prior practice no matter what the republicans do. Is that shortsighted? Maybe. But the general thinking seems to be that unless the Dems/liberals pay a price for rules they established, they will never change the rules. Why would they?

If there's one place I don't look to for accurate information on this, it's the New York Times

Public memorial service for Charlie Kirk, 31, slated for Sept. 21 in Arizona | Fox News https://www.foxnews.com/us/turning-point-usa-announces-massive-public-memorial-service-charlie-kirk-arizona-football-stadium

I have seen estimates as high as 70% with regard to the percentage of players in the NFL that are Black. I wonder what their thoughts are regarding the use of this venue?
