Crazy!
Neither Dajo nor I are Trump/Republican apologists. Look in the mirror?

BREAKING NEWS
3 years ago Tyler Robinson had breakfast at a diner and 2 tables over a transgender person was having a cup of coffee. Kash Patel promises to relentlessly follow this lead.
So you're minimizing the fact that he lived and likely was in a relationship with his trans roommate? This isn't some far flung connection like you make it seem.
That being said, no clue why he shot Charlie but it's starting to line up like the right thought it would and the opposite of what all of you on here claimed it to would be. Shooter wasn't far right, or even close to it.
How about if NONE OF US try to condemn entire groups of people, specifically one half of the US or the other half (as there's only two halves in a Left-Right model) , simply because of the singular act of a singular person.
Can we agree that what Tyler did was specific to Tyler, and that it was horrible?
Yes absolutely abhorrent but I don't think it's ever just about one person. Yes he made the action, he wasn't driven to that action on his own though. And that goes for all of these "ideology killers."
Im intrigued why you continue to use the shooters name. When there are mass shootings, I regularly hear people, predominantly the left, saying don't glorify the shooter.
How does that response sound?
Premature. Wait until charges are filed on Tuesday (at least that is the latest) and a motive is likel to be an announced. I'm not of the school of thought that parents are responsible for everything an adult child does. Otherwise, you better have perfect kids.
Thumbs up to this post.
No, that's a bs argument because if you give your kids guns and teach them to use guns then if they use a gun that is consistent with the parenting they received.
So 38% of the parents in this country are turning their children into assassins. Got it. His parents were what supposed to hire a full time private detective to know what their son is doing? This really is a stupid justification.
Thomas and Sue Kleibold met when they were both studying art in college. After they both graduated, they married in 1971. Thomas had initially worked as a sculptor, but then moved to engineering. Sue had worked in assistance services for disabled children. The Klebold's were pacifists, attended a Lutheran church with their children, and regularly attended anti-gun rallies. Maybe they thought they were superior to others like you said you and like mind folks are above, The Klebold's named one son Dylan after the renowned poet Dylan Thomas. On April 20, 1999, Dylan and another boy walked into Columbine High School with firearms and explosives, and massacred their school mates.

Why should any broadcaster be fired for telling their audience what they want to hear? Be it Fox or the guy at MSNBC. And, no, decency and truth are not valid reasons.
Generally the view was the you could be wrong and indecent in this country, and that a discussion of ideas would counter that. BG's view is that one side stifled the debate of ideas and now needs to pay the price for doing so.

Actually, my preference is that there not be cancel culture for views in the Overton window (or even adjacent) but, as a non-deity, I can't magically manifest that. We have cancel culture, particularly in the past 5-10 years. So my view is that the only chance (not guarantee) to stop cancelling is to ensure that both sides suffer from them. Do you have a better suggestion as to how to accomplish this change?

Well I might argue that you have a narrow historical view. Do you not think gays were cancelled with extreme prejudice in the 1950s and 1960s? I would love to take you to Stonewall to help you understand that....which is why sometimes engaging with the right is so frustrating because they don't grapple with history nearly enough.
PS. this is not to say that there were some very ridiculous things that have occured during the past 10 years. But it feels very much like small beans compared to what those going against majority cultural views faced in our past. Remember, it used to be that if you didn't go to church you were cancelled and god (pun intended) forbid you said you didn't believe.

Gays were actively discriminated against in the 1950s, 60s (and probably through at least the 90s). It was not really considered wrong by the standards of the time - that is an observation not an endorsement of those views/practices. Other minorities, notably blacks, of course had similar discrimination dating back centuries. Post 1964, we have pretty clear federal laws that make that type of discrimination illegal.
But you are wrongfully conflating discrimination with cancelling. Cancelling (in the context of this discussion) refers to punishing people for their political views (de-platforming, de-banking, firing from private employment, etc), regardless of whether they are gay, black, etc. Note my important qualification - this is for views in the Overton window (which moves) or adjacent. The better analogy would have been McCarthyism and the resulting black lists.

I made a killing on that trade, premised on the idea that Trump was incompetent. In March 2020, when Trump was bungling the covid response, I sold Treasuries at the top and bought back into the stock market within days of the bottom. All documented in real time in that same thread.
Also the stock market had better annualized returns under Clinton, Obama, and Biden than it did under Trump.
