This makes a lot of sense as to why things went down the way they did yesterday.

Still very sad that someone was killed

The ICE agent is the SAME AGENT who required 33 stitches after an illegal alien dragged him 100 yards while his arm was still inside the car.

The vehicle ACCELERATED and WEAVED - resulting in some bad lacerations for this officer.

_IF_ true (and yes, I don't trust anything out of this administration's pie hole) it just means you are a ****ing bad LEO. Why was his arm inside a car with a suspect? It is the most dangerous thing one could do as today an accelerator and tomorrow a .45 sitting on the passenger seat.

I PERSONALLY have little interest in trying to dissect a bunch of videos or listen to talking heads about criminal liability. A jury will determine that. But what is ABO****ELY essentially indisputable is that that they way this incident was handed badly. We can have a legitimate debate about ICE and mass deportation. We can even have an honest debate about sanctuary cities. But it feels that every american should want better LEO action and practices than being shown near daily by ICE and DEMAND that the agency actually do its job in a way that minimizes the threat from it toward citiizens and the self harm it is doing to iself by acting like rent a cops.

Trump authorized his DOJ to make a $5 million payment to settle the Ashley Babbitt federal wrongful death action. It was a good shoot case and a defensible action. Her heirs would never have gotten the unanimous verdict required to prevail.

How much will Trump authorize his DOJ to settle the Renee Nicole Good wrongful death action for?

No, I don't think Ashli Babbit was behind the wheel of a moving vehicle.

Why?

"As of January 8, 2026, no independent police use-of-force experts have publicly stated that the January 7 shooting of Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis was justified.

While federal administration officials have asserted the shooting was justified as an act of self-defense, multiple independent experts who reviewed bystander video have questioned or explicitly condemned the agent's actions.

Independent Expert Opinions
Experts from major academic and law enforcement backgrounds have largely criticized the incident:

"Bad Shooting":
Dennis Kenney, a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, stated the video shows the officer deliberately moved into a blocking position and had time to get out of the way, making it a "bad shooting".

Violation of Standards:
Chris Burbank, a former Salt Lake City police chief, told reporters the agent appeared to violate accepted law enforcement standards and did not seem to be in immediate danger.

Tactical Failure:
Jeffrey Noble, a former deputy police chief, noted that a "reasonable officer" would have stepped away from the vehicle to avoid harm rather than firing.

Lack of Imminent Threat:
Geoffrey Alpert, a criminology professor at the University of South Carolina, evaluated the video and found no "imminent threat to life" because the driver appeared to be leaving the scene, not targeting officers.

"Questionable" Status:
Mylan Masson, a retired Minneapolis officer and training director, called the shooting "questionable" but noted that all facts may not yet be known due to the ongoing investigation.

Official Justifications
The claim that the shooting was justified comes exclusively from federal government officials:

Kristi Noem: The Secretary of Homeland Security called the shooting justified, alleging the driver attempted to run over an officer and described the incident as "domestic terrorism".

JD Vance: The Vice President stated the officer was "clearly justified" and acting in self-defense, calling the event a "tragedy of [the driver's] own making".

Policy and Investigation Context
Moving Vehicle Policy:

Experts emphasized that most U.S. police departments, including those in Hennepin County, prohibit firing at moving vehicles unless the driver poses a deadly threat beyond the vehicle itself.

Investigation Controversy:
The FBI has taken sole control of the investigation, a move that prompted the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) to withdraw because they were denied access to evidence and witnesses."

More video on the Minneapolis ICE shooting incident (again, you can ignore the commentary as you like and just look at the footage):

The longer NYT video actually shows some things I didn't understand at first:

1. When Good's SUV is first stopped in the street, there is no other car behind her, as we see later. How did that one get there? Unclear, but it looks like another ICE vehicle pulled up from behind, attempting to surround her car.

2. The ICE agent who actually shot her wasn't the same one who drove past when she was waving cars by. He had already walked around the back of her car and stood himself in front of it. (You can see in the Bellingcat video that he was paused there in front of the car, which . . . seems like a bad move.)

3. I think the compared angles show that the agent wasn't actually hit by Good's car, maybe brushed at best. It might have appeared that way in some grainy footage taken at a distance, but the closer angles don't support that claim. He had moved his feet to the side and out of the car's path when he started firing.

"The federal government restricted Minnesota investigators' access to case materials and evidence in the fatal shooting by an ICE officer in Minneapolis, officials said on Thursday.

Why it matters: The move lets the Trump administration have unilateral purview over the investigation into the suspect tasked with carrying out the president's immigration agenda…..

State of play: The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) "reluctantly" withdrew from the investigation, superintendent Drew Evans said in a Thursday statement.

Initially, the FBI and BCA's force investigations unit were meant to conduct a joint investigation.
The U.S. Attorney's Office later reversed course and determined that the investigation "would now be led solely by the FBI, and the BCA would no longer have access to the case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation," Evans said."

It is horrible. If the narrative is that she was obstructing LE then why does the car DIRECTLY next to her go down the street. Pull out, pin her in, and then make an arrest for obstruction doing LE 101 about how to handle.

Again, put aside your views on the administration or immigration. This is so bush league and incompetent.

ICE agent Jon Ross exhibited terrible operational performance walking in front of the vehicle from the opposite direction of the driver's point of focus on the left. His poor conduct put himself in a position to feel threatened by even non- threatening actions (like trying to drive away).

It's worth this going to trial to let the system decide guilt or innocence.

Trump is to blame for all this. These awfully executed and community threatening operations are making us all less safe. Trump is getting Americans killed.

There are reports of a Border Patrol shooting in Portland, OR, (my hometown) this afternoon. Apparently a car with TDA gang members was stopped. The driver reportedly tried to run over the officers and shots were fired. The driver and passenger were hit. The car fled to a hospital parking where, 6 minutes later, 911 was called.

Bro what? You can see the recoil in his body. There's no argument.

It's the best angle of it. Period.

What I want to see is the angle where she listens to officers and gets out of her car peacefully and everyone gets to go home safe at night.
