My recollection of the rules were that the existence of a gun is always a threat to LEO. That threat to them is mitigated when you announce its existence and that your permit gives you the legal right to carry it. My experience has been that once that happens - and when I exhibited a seriously calm and deferential attitude, and after they ran the permit through the system - then LEO was chill about it.

The liberal strategy on this, I guess, is since not enough people don't care about brown people being arrested and abused for being brown people, let's get as many dumbass white liberals to start physical confrontations with ICE agents that will always end in ICE 7, Confrontational Liberal 0. What? MLK's people absolutely knew they were provoking the cops. In those days, sitting at a segregated lunch counter was sure to provoke a response.
