maybe he was clapping for the news that Costco had blackened catfish in stock in St Paul?

I coach basketball and I clap all the time during games and I can guarantee you it's not in celebration
hopefully you don't clap while they're shooting though

No usually it's to get my guys attention or in frustration when we get out rebounded for the fourth possession in a row. My team has skills but sadly not height.

We don't need another 5 pages of slo mo video analysis. It doesn't matter who shot whom or why. What matters is that there will be no investigation of ICE actions and their superiors support them, so there is no deterrent to shooting people

"We had this discussion with him two weeks ago or so, you know, that go ahead and protest, but do not engage, do not do anything stupid, basically," Michael Pretti added, per CBS News. "And he said he knows that. He knew that."

Family members of Pretti said that he owned a handgun and that he had a permit to carry in the state of Minnesota, but had never known him to carry the firearm.

People are given time outs for violating board rules, not because they have good opinions, bad opinions or provocative opinions.

The rules apply equally to everyone. Any allegation otherwise is hogwash. A great deal of grace is given to everyone here - including yourself with this personal attack against Bearlysane (who has in fact been given multiple time outs) - before time outs are administered. Believe me, they are earned.

As has been stated repeatedly by myself and other moderators: attack issues / positions, etc but do not troll or personally attack people. It's really that simple.

Imagine finding yourself in a position where you have even the slightest sense that you need to take a defensive or "wait and see" position about today's event in Minnesota because of your political affiliation and/or previous vote(s). Yuck.

Imagine finding yourself waking up in the morning and carrying a gun with you to a heated protest against federal law enforcement and thinking things will turn out well in the end.

Imagine a person not drawing that gun, being subdued, having that gun taken from them, remaining subdued and then getting shot god knows how many times while being restrained.

Oh wait, you don't have to imagine that. That's what happened today. It doesn't matter how stupid he was to bring that gun. I repeat: it does not matter. Properly trained people suitable for law enforcement don't shoot that man.

If you can't speak out against this or feel the need to defend or deflect, you're an absolute piece of steaming garbage to most people, even ones that you're politically aligned with.

Today is a huge turning point.

I offer my perspective as a former conceal carry permit holder. I was taught - and suspect this is taught in every single CC class across the country - that you show your hands to LEO and calmly say something like "I am a conceal carry permit holder and I have a firearm on me." I have done a version of this myself. Interacting with LEO was always a very scary time for me while a permit holder; it is inherently dangerous and a risky point in time for a permit holder.

It is incredibly reckless and dangerous to be around LEO without doing that because you are creating a risk of getting yourself shot. The fact he was carrying and chose to interfere, obstruct and resist LEO is literally inconceivable to me. It's like getting drunk and repeatedly running across a busy freeway at night with dark clothes on.

Imagine what the gun lobby is going to say about a law abiding American citizen having his Constitutional rights taken away by the Federal Govt using violence.

This is the fundamental basis for being able to bear arms.

Agreed 100%

And if this keeps up, you'll see anyone and everyone who has supported the Orange Buffoon get voted out of office.

Trump has done nothing to de-escale this.
He's done the exact OPPOSITE.

Midterms could be a GOP MASSACRE.

I'm sorry, but I don't see how anyone could watch this video and say that Peretti is "obstructing" ICE.

He is standing at a distance in the street. He waves some cars past and records with his phone the whole time. That's it, until:

The first time he "interferes" is stepping in front of a woman who has been shoved to the ground by the officers and is being pepper sprayed. He interferes with the pepper spray, I guess. He has his hands up as this happens, not threatening or reaching for a weapon at all. At this point, why do the ICE guys need to keep escalating at all? The two people are on the side of the road. Their business is not being interfered with anymore. Instead they keep spraying and trying to tackle these people.

It seems to me that the "rules" for being a concealed-carry person presumes that the cops are also going to be calm and responsible actors as long as you are. That's out the window with ICE now. They clearly approach aggressively and sometimes violently at people who are annoying but posing zero active threat. You will barely be able to tell them you have a concealed-carry permit before they are on top of you.

I'm not talking about whether or not certain behaviors are technically "legal." I think we all know that at different points in this country's history there have been laws that were unjust, or applied unfairly. I'm asking if you think this is RIGHT. Should law enforcement behave in this way? I just can't see an argument for it. If your argument ultimately rests on the idea that the cops are just hair-trigger guys and you have to tiptoe around them all the time as if they could just go off at any moment and this is just the circumstances in which we all live, I think that's where the problem lies. Law enforcement needs to be held to higher standards.

Well said. What he did is just something you don't do with a conceal carry permit. I know nobody who carries a gun that would handle this situation the way he did. I am sorry he is dead, that really sucks that he either didn't have the training or didn't have the wherewithal to keep his cool.

Notice that this is NOT what several posters here have been advocating ...that instead, Alex Pretti was in essence "asking" for this to happen and didn't conduct himself in an appropriate manner.

They're excusing the lack of training and professionalism by law enforcement and turning the blame back on the victim. --- Its automatically assumed that law enforcement is appropriately trained and experienced.

That's a terribly LAME argument.

I know cooks at a family pizza restaurant in Walnut Creek that have undergone more training than just 47 days.

My recollection of the rules were that the existence of a gun is always a threat to LEO. That threat to them is mitigated when you announce its existence and that your permit gives you the legal right to carry it. My experience has been that once that happens - and when I exhibited a seriously calm and deferential attitude, and after they ran the permit through the system - then LEO was chill about it.

To the extent you are referring to me, I'll respond. He was not asking for it. I am not saying that. I am saying the permit grants privileges and imposes substantial responsibilities. It is a gun. It is inherently dangerous so you take the privilege and responsibilities deadly serious. Pretti appears to have done every single thing exactly wrong, which puts people in mortal risk.

With regular cops I'm sure this is the case. ICE seems to behave differently. Haven't a bunch of experienced cops already said this?
