A lot of this is just performative, and a means to normalize a Stasi-like police state.

If Trump wanted to cut off mass illegal immigration, he could just impose heavy fines on corporations like Target or Walmart for hiring illegals, as opposed to hiring thousands of goon squads to strongarm random brown kids in shopping malls.

Is there any clarity on why the guy was in ICE's face cussing them out with f bombs before he was arrested? His attitude is definitely different before and after the incident.

Sure, is there any clarity on why the guy was in ICE's face cussing them out with f bombs before he was arrested? His attitude is definitely different before and after the incident. Were they there to arrest him in the first place or did they arrest him for a different reason? Obstruction, failure to comply to reasonable demnads, etc...

"Conflicts of Interest as a White House Advisor

Sacks, a "special government employee" (SGE) who serves as an advisor on artificial intelligence (AI) and cryptocurrency to President Trump, has faced intense scrutiny and criticism over potential conflicts of interest.

Extensive Investments: Critics point out that Sacks and his firm, Craft Ventures, retain investments in over 400 tech firms, many with ties to the AI and crypto sectors he is advising on, despite divesting from some major holdings like Amazon, Meta, and xAI.

Ethics Waivers: The controversy centers on ethics waivers that critics, such as government ethics expert Kathleen Clark, characterize as "sham ethics waivers" that grant him "carte blanche" to shape policy in ways that could benefit his financial interests. Sacks has stated that the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) approved his waivers and that serving in the White House has cost him money.

Influencing Regulation: Sacks helped shape a controversial executive order that aims to preempt state-level AI regulations deemed "onerous" to the industry, which some argue benefits the large tech firms he is invested in.

SVB Bailout Stance: Concerns about a potential taxpayer bailout for the tech industry if the AI "bubble" bursts are amplified by Sacks' past advocacy for urgent government action during the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB) collapse."

This - if you know any US history - is about the most offensive thing that I have seen on BI for a while.

1) Essentially this was the charge made against Catholics for more than 100+ years by the Protestant Majority. Took lots of different forms but the core of it was that as "Papists" they could not be loyal Americans and their "popery" would come at the expense of traditional American Values.

2) It also was the charge made about Chinese and Japanese immigrants. I find it ironic (well both ironic, likely evidence that Movielover is not Cal affiliated and could be a Russian Agitprop agent or at the very least a right wing boomer keyboard warior) that at a school with 40%+ Asian American undergrads he would post something like this.

One of the great failures of 21st century America has been to allow this really virulent white nationalist viewpoint to take root without pushing back. A failure in our rhetoric for those that opposed has been to call them nazis. Rather they are simply modern day no-nothings or neo-KKK'ers. (and no, you do not need to burn crosses. Most members of the Klan did not)

PS. And then we get at really the question of what it means to be a "successful culture" (his dependent variable for those paying attention). Near certain we just have a tautological fallacy.

PPS. I think the solution (not sure about the programming) is to be able not just to hide an ignore posts but to remove them entirely from what we see on the board. They can pound away all they want - I just would never have to see their time wasting dribble if they can not help themselves from logical fallacies.

Actually this subject hits a serious trigger.

We KNOW that three of the biggest avenues for earning for illegal immigrants are fast food franchises, Gig companies, and Walmart. But all three have taken steps to shield themselves from criminal liability. What pisses me off to NO END is that we could end this problem (if you think it is a problem) in about a week by making the CEO of WalMart do a perp walk and have to spend a month at ClubFed. We, of course, don't because that would impact those with power. So we pick on those without it.

PS. Should probably throw in the top 5 publicly traded homebuilders in that list.

PPS. Walmart does this by NOT hiring janitors and other lowest wage workers directly. They might wear a blue vest and look like a warmart employee but they are actually hired by a subcontractor. That way the company is shielded even though they are well aware of the immigration status of the worker. FF folks use franchises as their excuse. The gig companies wink wink nod nod via very easily defeated AI powered ID Verifcation. Again - if you wanted to stop this you would make UBER guilty if they don't ask someone to show up at an office and confirm with real documents they are who they are. I have to see someone in person everytime I fill out paperwork attesting to legal status. I am so triggered over this hypocrisy.

I didn't specify America.

Most Western Europen nations are on edge, crime has spiked, languages are being erased, industrial-scale r*pe and trafficking of children, social spending exploding, and basic layers of civility erased. New transplants don't assimilate, parallel legal systems are put in place, 'no go zones' with fancy names emerge, etc.

This then creates a Catch 22 where even fewer locals marry, start businesses, buy homes, bc of decisions made by wankers like Starmer. The Right appears ascendant in much of Europe, but it may be too late. UK Reform is on fire.

They were not arrested, but the original point was "targeting" political enemies. This is what that typically looks like.

Do you think that the DOJ can put some prosecutors on these cases that can do more than Rock a bikini? You know, like a prosecutor than can find the correct courtroom where the case has been assigned, knows what side of the counsel table to stand on, and can draft a pleading that doesn't get tossed by the court for failing to comply with the Federal Rules?

I'm answering a question about what Trump is doing.

Though yes, if Trump wants to complain about Biden targeting him (though really it was more AGs in state governments who were pursuing this most aggressively) then him doing this is exactly the same thing. Biden didn't have ICE or any other para-military groups patrolling our streets, though, as far as I remember.
