So many things Americans were sick of...

- ICE raids resulting in US citizens being killed... then blaming the citizens
- willy-nilly tariffs
- Elon Musk and other billionaires
- the idea of unfettered AI and the data centers
- prices going up (hey, it happens), but then Trump's talking "ballroom"
- mean "Quiet, Piggy" stuff
- promising less war, then unilaterally going after Iran

Partial list.

Now we'll see what the Dems can do. I'm glad we have the chance but I'm not super-confident about what'll happen. Whatever it is, it couldn't be half as bad as the last two years.

I think a lot of the things on your list could have been ignored by voters if the war in Iran was quicker or didn't happen and in turn gas prices didn't go up. Those two really killed Trump

The Iran War was the nail in the coffin (as I said it would be when it started), but his approval was already falling because of all that other stuff.

It was falling but not enough to cause what we saw last night. Dems would have taken the house like normal midterms and republicans would have kept the senate. Add in Iran and gas prices and that did them in.

There was definitely a compounding effect and Iran was the last big thing.

Not arguing that, I just don't think you would have seen what we saw last night otherwise.

I've already seen way too many lawfare posts from dem representatives. So much for affordability being their big issue. The next two years will be such a waste because the far left portion of congress still won't be able to get Trump out of their mouths.

Riddle me this, how can it be the "last big thing" if it was simultaneously "a small price to pay"? The blowout happened for so many reasons that political scientists will study this for years. The blowout shattered a number midterm records. Per exit polls the second most important issue after the economy was "concern for democracy". His approval rating dropped to 31 pct. Trumps performance on the road was his death march as he was obviously lost and out of touch, on the eve of the election he's on about the reflecting pool, and today he's giving an update on the ball room after his party just took a shellacking.

Excellent post DLS!
We are talking about Kansas having a Democrat for their Senator for the first time in 94 YEARS!

And Trump is yammering about the Ballroom today.

It was a small price to pay for me and many, clearly not for the bulk of voting Americans. Again this wasn't about party, it was about Trump. This isn't because democrats policies are so amazing, it's because people were done with Trump's policies. Markets love it though, they love when a government is split and can't make any decisions.

The American people didn't just grow tired of his Policies.
They also grew tired of his hate and division.

They know decency when they see it.

Donald Trump has no decency.

IMO they should be careful and targeted about this. I think people do want some accountability and investigations but it shouldn't be the main message.

Agreed. I'm not saying all accountability should be viewed as lawfare or retaliation but when the first posts a dem is making is "Get a lawyer!" or something to that ilk, it sends the wrong message to most Americans.

If this is what dems focus on for two years, they will see the pendulum swing back in the other direction during next elections. Moderates voted for dems to make life better, not spend countless hours and dollars on frivolous investigations.

I don't fully agree with that.

His first term was totally different than his second term.
His second term was full of revenge, hate, division, lies, pardoning felons and using his office to make money.

In his first term, he actually appointed businessmen into his cabinet who had proven track records.
In his second term, he did nothing but appoint "stooges" from Fox News who were loyal to him and sucked up to him.

You saw plenty of people still embracing him before gas prices went up. It's fair to say it was some of both but I think Trump would have been able to keep enough support if it wasn't for gas prices

People saw right through the hate and division of the Stephen Miller's of the world.
His wife is one piece of work. I guess you'd have to be if you were married to Stephen.

She didn't even vote.
Claimed she didn't want to be doxxed.

Never mind that she and her husband live on a fortified military base in Northern Virginia.

You're turning this win into something it isn't. It's not just you, it's many in the left. This isn't a mandate against all Trump policies. American's still put republicans above democrats when it comes to immigration policy in recent polls.

This is mandate against affordability issues. That's where democrats need to focus their attention

The comments by Katie Miller are weird.

I've long posted here that tariffs are a TAX.
I've long posted here that this war of "choice" was not helpful to the economy.

Immigration is the only issue that he fulfilled his promise to voters on.
If you were a one issue voter and all you cared about was Immigration then I guess you are HAPPY.

That's why I said your last post was making the midterms about something that it's not. Even Talarico came out this morning and said Trump has done a better job with the border than the previous administration did.

I would like to see a Poll that shows how "happy" Americans were with the way ICE went about their business - - - no matter how harsh the means justified the end. I don't think that most Christian folk were happy seeing families and their children put into "cages" . . . or people deported back to countries where they never came from.

Looks like Democrats will have the most House seats either party has had since 1992, after which was the end of the last vestiges of Dixiecrats in the South. A process that took about 30 years to play out as Democrats made racist whites unwelcome in our party
