Rs have made big gains in registrations. Early voting numbers are not showing a big blue wave. However, history tells a big lesson about midterms - I believe there are only 2 exceptions.

The cartoon actually is most telling. Trump is in SC and Vance was in Texas. I received a flyer in the mail from the D senate candidate. On the ground stuff tells us who's on offense and who's on defense. That matters.

Polls have been pretty accurate in midterms actually. That doesn't prove that they will be this year, only that the bigger polling misses have tended to be in Presidential years where you have one big national figure who can potentially juice turnout across the board.

Early voting numbers are what's less than useless most of the time. No one really knows who is going to vote on election day rather than send an early ballot and this changes all the time in response to different circumstances. (For example: Dems who were more likely to use mail ballots during COVID may be less so now with Trump threatening to mess with the mail system. Before Trump told his people not to trust vote-by-mail, it used to be Republicans who typically got an advantage with that.)

The number of seats picked up is not a good metric for the impact of a single elections because it is a comparison of two different elections. 2024 was a bad year for Republican coattails in that Trump did not bring a lot of House seats with him in his victory. In 2024 the Republicans actually lost 2 seats. That puts 2026 vs. 2024 comparisons at a disadvantage for the Democrats.

The projection for 2026 is 224 - 234 seats. In 2006 the Democrats won 233 seats. In 2018 the Democrats won 235 seats. With the advance of gerrymandering and the increase in non-competitive seats, an outcome towards 234 seats would be as strong as either the 2006 or 2018 blue wave. I think we should all agree there should be more House seats so as to reduce the ability of the political class to choose their own voters rather than the other way.

Everyone you mentioned was driven from office proving sbgold was correct, except for Lucas who was only indicted this month.
