I'll revise.

Other than slavery and Japanese internment and Trump, America has never been a country that penalized people for their parents.

I would disagree with much of this.

First of all, while many Republicans held slaves, the Democrats held the majority of them. It was Democrats who started the Civil War, and defended to the death their right to make and keep slaves. They lost some 260,000 souls, who died to protect this heinous practice, and they continued to keep fighting and dying with their KKK and Red Shirts, and the White League, for too many years after the war was over. That was a crime in itself, raising families to hate for generations.

The modern Democrat party was founded in 1828, primarily by Andrew Jackson, a slaveholder, and Martin Van Buren, who also owned some slaves, mostly domestic servants. The party became a party to champion the holding of slaves and fought a war with the Union to extend that right into newly formed territories and states, as the nation grew westward.

As to the Japanese internment, your description is way too simple. It was more complicated. Four different groups of Japanese were relocated to the Internment Camps run by the Government. Issei were persons born in Japan who had emigrated to another country. In the United States, they were not permitted to become naturalized citizens They were never allowed to become naturalized by the US as citizens. Nisei were defined as the children born with US citizenship, by virtue of being born in the US. Sansei are the grandchildren of the Issei and children of the Nisei, and are all citizens of the US. The last group, Yonsei, are children of the Sansei. I have many classmate friends from Cal who are all Nisei, and who all were sent to the camps as very small children. We do a zoom call every month to keep in touch. My father went to Cal to study Architecture, and had a Japanese classmate, and they became lifelong friends as well. I had a heart attack 25 years ago, and the first visitors I had at my bedside when I regained consciousness were several of my Japanese classmates and their wives. I have absorbed from them much about the camps, the bad and the not so bad of it. There was nothing good about it, except the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the most decorated unit in all of WW2. They gave their lives to stand up for a country which imprisoned so many Japanese residents.

This was all handed to the Japanese residents by another great Democrat, Franklin Roosevelt, perhaps the greatest Democrat for many, but not for me. His was a horrible decision to put Japanese residents in these camps. The government used ethnicity as a tool to find and remove these immigrants to the camps. What Roosevelt did was criminal, in my opinion. To show how forgiving they are, nearly every one of my Japanese classmate friends today is a Democrat, and one is even a leftist. Roosevelt did not stop with imprisoning Japanese residents of the US. He went into South America and made deals with countries like Peru to capture and turn over their Issei and Nisei residents to the US authorities, who would then imprison them in America, not in the Relocation Camps, but in special prison camps run by the Justice Department.

Finally, what Donald Trump did to children who were here illegally was tragic, separating the kids from their parents. But remember that is exactly what America does when it puts a father or a mother in prison for having committed a crime. Separate a kid from their parent. I am thankful for the donors who are funding organizations to help these kids with communications with their parent, along with free summer camps, and gifts.

You seem to be insinuating here that what "Democrats" were doing 160 years ago should have bearing on how people vote today. Why? People mostly vote on what the parties are offering now, not back then.

The same party that owned slaves back then fund the SPLC, KKK, and other neo-Nazi groups now.

I wasn't asking you.

Sweden, yes, is pretty racist:

Evidence of Structural Racism and Discrimination
  • Labor and Housing Segregation: Studies by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) show that Sweden has one of the most segregated labor markets in Europe for people with foreign backgrounds. Research indicates that an applicant's skin color, name, and religious background heavily impact job hiring and housing opportunities.
  • Racial Profiling: Reports from organizations like the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (Br) and testimonies submitted to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) highlight widespread concerns regarding police ethnic profiling, particularly against Afro-Swedish and Middle Eastern communities.
  • Targeted Hate Speech: Human rights groups monitor documented rises in anti-Muslim racism, antisemitism, anti-Black racism, and discrimination against the indigenous Sami population.
Horrid, no thank you.

The European Social Survey has historically found Sweden among the European countries with the most positive attitudes toward immigration, alongside other Nordic countries.

https://www.europeansocialsurvey.org/news/article/europeans-becoming-more-divided-over-immigration

The EU Agency for Fundamental Rights surveyed nearly 6,800 people of African descent across 13 EU countries in 2022. Sweden was not among those highest-discrimination countries.

Maybe it's the exploding welfare rolls, record 189 bombings last year, and spike in sexual assaults.

"Foreign-born adults account for roughly 57% to 58% of all recipients of social welfare (ekonomiskt bistnd / försörjningsstöd) in Sweden, according to data from Socialstyrelsen (National Board of Health and Welfare)."

Again, you have overstated quite a bit with no real facts or info:

  • Most people arriving in Ireland, the UK, Germany, and Sweden are asylum seekers going through a legal process, not "illegal" migrants in the sense of undetected border-crossers. Vetting is often slow and backlogged, which is a real administrative failure, but "unvetted" overstates it asylum claims are processed, just often too slowly.
  • Backlog and processing failures are a legitimate critique of state capacity, but that's a different claim than "no vetting happens."
  • "Exploding welfare rolls"
This is the weakest-sourced part of the claim. Welfare/benefits usage by migrant populations varies enormously by country and by visa/asylum category, and "exploding" is doing a lot of work without a number attached. Lover, exploding relative to what baseline, over what time period, and is this about asylum seekers specifically or immigration broadly (which includes labor migrants who are net fiscal contributors in several EU studies)?

We need more careful, expert analysis for these types of claims.

I have to prepare for a meeting that happens in an hour, but here are a few bullet points off the top of my head (sorry for lack in depth analysis for each that I normally add):

    --Fast, understandable timelines, fair processing
--Detention as last resort, not default (and protect families, especially children)
    --Due process at the border
--Transparent, consistently enforced rules not the cruelty we have seen under DJT's admins
--Legal pathways sized to actual demand (I deal with H1Bs a fair amount, they add so much to this country)
--Targeted, not indiscriminate, enforcement (Get criminals by all means!)
--Independent oversight of enforcement conditions (fairness and treat people like humans)

    Hope this helps.

    Of course I can.

A major reason so many migrants remained in limbo during the Biden administration was the enormous expansion of the asylum and immigration court caseload. EOIR's pending cases rose from about 1.4 million in FY2021 to 3.56 million by FY2024, while USCIS's affirmative asylum backlog reached roughly 1.34 million. Biden era policies, including the administration's asylum processing and border release practices, contributed to the backlog.

The pending asylum court caseload increased by roughly 2.3 million cases, or 182%, from FY2020 to FY2024.
    https://www.everycrsreport.com/reports/IN12492.html

USCIS received more than 419,000 affirmative asylum applications during FY2024 alone, while completing only about 126,000.

Biden overcorrected for Trump and now Trump is overcorrecting again in the other direction. The only real way to fix this problem is with new laws.

Worth noting that Biden's administration did negotiate an immigration bill that seemed to have enough support in Congress to pass, and then Republicans spiked it because Trump wanted it as a campaign issue. A similar thing happened during Obama's term (what looked like a negotiated compromise bill was spiked by Republicans at the last minute). Both parties have to be serious about fixing the problem, not just campaigning on it.

Yeah, but this is what I recall from that time period (help from Google Gemini):

Data from the Migration Policy Institute (MPI) and other policy analysts show that the administration carried out more enforcement actions than its predecessors:
    • Record Repatriations: The Biden administration executed nearly 4.4 million total removals and returns, exceeding the total of any single presidential term since 2008. In FY 2024 alone, the administration conducted approximately 778,000 repatriations.
    • Policy Shifts and Restrictions: In response to the surges, the administration progressively tightened border rules. In mid-2024, it implemented strict executive restrictions on asylum eligibility when border crossings exceeded a certain threshold. Following these policy shifts and increased foreign cooperation, migrant encounters at the Southwest border began to drop significantly, continuing a downward trajectory into 2025.
    • Systemic Underfunding: Supporters also argue the border system was overwhelmed by global migration shifts rather than deliberate choice. The administration supported a $19 billion bipartisan border security bill to increase enforcement resources and hire more personnel, though the legislation ultimately failed to pass Congress. REPUBLICAN CONGRESS NOT SERIOUS ABOUT FUNDING
    That is all.
