Fiona Hill, the senior Russia expert on the National Security Council, who was sitting one row in front of me, later told me that she considered doing something, anything including faking a heart attack to disrupt the proceedings and get Trump to stop talking.

This is really funny. I wonder if she considered faking a heart attack when Obama wore a tan suit.

No, she didn't, but Rush Limbaugh had a real one.

In this system you vote for someone or against someone. We've had six years of disastrous government so it's going to be against but Biden doesn't inspire the dislike Trump does which means the Dems will continue to spin their "our democracy is at stake from fascists " fantasies because they have nothing else. They need Trump badly.
Unless Biden can turn around the economy by the middle of 2024, I generally agree. There are two other rays of hope for democrats though. First, I think Trump is almost guaranteed to run. But, if for some reason he doesn't, he is likely to be the GOP's worst enemy by trashing their nominee. He's not going to go out and stump for DeSantis or Nikki Haley or whomever. Anyone who thinks he will selflessly step aside for the "good" of our nation, the GOP or any other reason is incredibly naive.

The GOP is pretty much pinning its hopes on Trump being successful at subverting state by state election systems.
I think of it like this. If you want to destroy this Republic and Democracy then you will vote for the Criminal in Chief who is still trying to overturn the 2020 election. If you want to keep this Republic and Democracy intact you will vote for somebody who loves this country more than themselves. I may not want to see a Republican in the White House in 2024 but, as long as it is a Republican who understands the value of our system of government I can tolerate it until the next election.

Which politician loves the country more than themself? I'll settle for anyone close to normal. Give me two of them to vote for and then I'll start looking into their 'details'.
I mean, I could argue that Bush 1 and 2 loved the country more than themselves. They seemed the least narcissistic presidents in the last few decades but they weren't particularly good at their jobs. Biden I just can't get a good read on but it's entirely possible he loves the country more than himself.

In the current GOP world, I'm not sure I can imagine a person who puts country before self being elected. They just aren't very good at generating those sorts of people right now.

I think I would settle for a decent BS-er who can at least play the game to make enough people believe they care about the country. Bill Clinton, Obama and Reagan all had that going for them.

LOL Trump is threatening another pretend lawsuit that he won't be able to follow through with. He's claiming that he will sue CNN for defamation because they continue to call him a liar because of all the lies he tells.

As you all know, truth is a defense to defamation and in order to prove he actually believes all of the stupid things he says he would have to submit to discovery and testify under oath. Since he obviously isn't going to do that, this lawsuit won't go anywhere. On the bright side, he will milk this as another opportunity to grift his clueless followers who are the only people dumb enough to believe his lies.

The best part is that even the dumb letter from Trump is trying to re-characterize his obvious false claims as "genuine beliefs" because they know the facts aren't on their side.

I hope this goes all the way to trial and CNN files a counterclaim, Johnny Depp style.
Quote:

Former President Trump on Wednesday said he planned to file a lawsuit against CNN, alleging the network has repeatedly defamed him dating back to his 2016 campaign for the presidency.

"I have notified CNN of my intent to file a lawsuit over their repeated defamatory statements against me," Trump said in a statement. "I will also be commencing actions against other media outlets who have defamed me and defrauded the public regarding the overwhelming evidence of fraud throughout the 2020 Election. I will never stop fighting for the truth and for the future of our Country!"

The 282-page letter from Trump's attorneys to CNN executives, dated July 21, calls for the network to retract or correct numerous on-air statements and published articles about Trump that the lawyers allege are false and defamatory.

The letter goes on to cite dozens of examples, many of which relate to the network's coverage of Trump's repeated claims that the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent. CNN coverage frequently referred to those claims as "lies," "false narratives" and "baseless theories," among other terms.

The lawsuit alleges those descriptions are "false and defamatory," in part because Trump genuinely believes his claims that the election was stolen.

"Without regard for President Trump's genuine belief in his statements, CNN has published numerous articles characterizing him as a 'liar' and the purveyor of the 'Big Lie,'" the letter to CNN states.

But perhaps in a preview of how Trump's lawsuit is likely to be received, dozens of lawsuits filed after the 2020 alleging there was widespread fraud that tipped the scales in favor of Joe Biden were summarily dismissed because of a lack of evidence, in some cases by judges appointed by Trump.

Trump has spent the 18 months since leaving office continuing to claim the 2020 election was stolen or rigged against him, including as recently as Tuesday during a speech in Washington, D.C. Multiple audits and recounts have validated Biden's victory, and many former Trump administration officials have said there was not enough fraud to change the outcome.

Trump has a habit of threatening to sue those who speak critically of him, though he has rarely followed through in recent years.

He previously threatened to sue the women accusing him of sexual misconduct ahead of the 2016 election; he threatened to sue The New York Times over critical coverage; and he suggested he may sue Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) over comments before he was first impeached.

What is on the bill that you oppose?

Reducing the deficit?
Reducing the carried interest loophole?
Minimum corporate tax rate for the big business?
Reduced carbon emissions?
Medicare negotiating drug prices?
A more efficient IRS?
Electric vehicle tax credits?
Obamacare subsidies?

This is good legislation, just way too small.

" I was hanging out in a freshman dorm with some friends, next door to Donald Jr.'s room. I walked out of the room to find Donald Trump at his son's door, there to pick him up for a baseball game. There were quite a few students standing around watching, trying to catch a glimpse of the famed real estate magnate. Don Jr. opened the door, wearing a Yankee jersey. Without saying a word, his father slapped him across the face, knocking him to the floor in front of all of his classmates. He simply said "put on a suit and meet me outside," and closed the door."

He's not.
He's at least 6-02 and more like 6-02.50

I hung out with Bruce in the lobby of the Valley River Inn late one night at the 2012 Olympic Trials in Eugene.

My buddy was a pole vault coach and we did a road trip up to Eugene to support former Cal pole vaulter Allison Stokke. My buddy's Dad had coached Bruce in the pole vault at SJSU. Bruce was the most affable, humble, gracious, guy. He was telling stories about what it was like to room with Steve Prefontaine and 400m runner Wayne Collett (Silver) in Munich in '72. He wasnt even talking about himself. He was talking about Pre the whole time.

The photo below shows him with former WR holder and Olympic Medalist in the Decathlon, Ashton Eaton from the 2012 Olympic Trials. Eaton was a 5-time NCAA Champion for Oregon and the second decathlete to break the 9,000 point barrier. He won Gold in London 2012.

Eaton is 6-01.
