Honestly, I think it's pretty likely that the economy is in decent shape by 2024.

He's not going to go out and stump for DeSantis or Nikki Haley or whomever. The GOP is pretty much pinning its hopes on Trump being successful at subverting state by state election systems.
Yup, we agree on this as well. But how is DeSantis going to do when Trump is trashing him 7 days a week? Is the GOP establishment ready to go to war with Trump but maintain Trumpism under DeSantis? Seems far-fetched. GOP is hoping Trump dies and anoints DeSantis but that's never going to happen.Anarchistbear said:Unit2Sucks said:Unless Biden can turn around the economy by the middle of 2024, I generally agree. I think the GOP establishment and Dem establishment realize that DeSantis is potentially a much better candidate than Trump, a better match vs Biden and is more likely to to bring back the white suburbanites that went for Biden but Trump still has the street. The irony is that DeSanris is much more dangerous than Trump plus actually smart- he'll continue to stoke the fires of Trumpism but with a "kinder face."

Trump will control the narrative and if he's not the candidate it will largely consist of him trashing DeSantis. By comparison, complaints about Biden's gaffes won't rate very highly with the GOP base. Trump is going to cause a fracture if he's not the candidate.Anarchistbear said:Unit2Sucks said:Yup, we agree on this as well. I think the motivation is overriding hatred of Biden and Dems so they don't stay home similar to what Dems did in 2020. . It will be very entertaining.

Latest rumor is Dem disenchantment from within will see Kamala retired from the VP first after a disastrous mid term. California Governor made new VP, the Jill pulls the plug on Covid Joe and whaddya know Newsom will run in 2024 as the incumbent.
I don't think Dr. Biden is calling the shots - there is no indication we're in a Ron and Nancy situation.
The most likely scenario by far is Biden/Harris running against Trump in 2024. It will be interesting to see which of his children Trump chooses as his running mate.

I don't know what you mean by 2 percenter. As for weak, Pete does a better job than anyone of communicating mainstream democrat policies and ideals and defending the Biden administration. Obviously Biden isn't the best mouthpiece and there is no one else in the administration who seems to be doing this. I would have expected Kamala to do it but she's been even weaker than Mike Pence, which is hard to imagine especially since she did a credible job attacking people during the campaign, even if it wasn't particularly helpful to her cause. Biden would have been better served by Warren or even someone like Jennifer Granholm.OdontoBear66 said:Even from a mod Repub Pete is a 2 percenter. Too weak, just like Kamala. You moved the goalposts quite a bit. Biden was the safe choice to defeat the worst president the GOP could find. He still is the safe choice when the GOP nominates the worst person they can find for the 3rd consecutive term. Trump will probably run again and lose in 2028 because the GOP won't be able to find anyone worse.OdontoBear66 said:Sheesh. Give me a bit of license (add 0.5% to Pete). Yeah, Bernie was fun as a form of conveying discontentment, but he would have been a bigger disaster. Biden thought that his job was to appoint a diverse cabinet without much thought into a diverse AND COMPETENT cabinet and be the next FDR. Bernie will never make it out of the primary. Just won't happen.BearForce2 said:
Biden came in 4th in the Iowa caucus and 5th in the New Hampshire primary. Bernie Sanders had twice has many votes as Biden in Iowa and more than 3 times as many votes in New Hampshire.
You mean there was politics involved in political parties. Good thing the RNC didn't show any favoritism.BearForce2 said:
Bernie then proceeded to win Nevada garnering more than twice as many votes as Biden. At the point, the DNC was shieting bricks.

The rest coalesced around Biden because they did not want Bernie, who has never been a true Democrat just like Trump has never been a true Republican. By the way, Amy would have kicked ass as a VP instead of the first timer from CA.

Who is talking about the 2016 election? Instead of taking a neutral stand on republican infighting since 2016, RNC is basically a national committee of Trump.BearForce2 said:calbear93 said:You mean there was politics involved in political parties. The RNC wanted Jeb Bush but the people wanted Donald Trump.

They absolutely have a choice. They can choose to defend incumbents instead of following the whims of a former president.BearForce2 said:calbear93 said:Who is talking about the 2016 election? The RNC doesn't have a choice. But they would prefer someone like Mike Pence.
Yeah, they have their preferences but clearly can't force voters to back their candidates.dajo9 said:
Nothing is more overrated in terms of power than the DNC and the RNC. Voters don't care about the DNC and the RNC.
Trump defeated the RNC and black Democratic voters made Biden the non-Bernie option.
This is really funny. I wonder if she considered faking a heart attack when Obama wore a tan suit.bearister said:
Fiona Hill, the senior Russia expert on the National Security Council, who was sitting one row in front of me, later told me that she considered doing something, anything including faking a heart attack to disrupt the proceedings and get Trump to stop talking.
I think of it like this. If you want to destroy this Republic and Democracy then you will vote for the Criminal in Chief who is still trying to overturn the 2020 election. If you want to keep this Republic and Democracy intact you will vote for somebody who loves this country more than themselves. I may not want to see a Republican in the White House in 2024 but, as long as it is a Republican who understands the value of our system of government I can tolerate it until the next election.Unit2Sucks said:Unless Biden can turn around the economy by the middle of 2024, I generally agree. There are two other rays of hope for democrats though. First, I think Trump is almost guaranteed to run. But, if for some reason he doesn't, he is likely to be the GOP's worst enemy by trashing their nominee. He's not going to go out and stump for DeSantis or Nikki Haley or whomever. Anyone who thinks he will selflessly step aside for the "good" of our nation, the GOP or any other reason is incredibly naive.Anarchistbear said:
In this system you vote for someone or against someone. We've had six years of disastrous government so it's going to be against but Biden doesn't inspire the dislike Trump does which means the Dems will continue to spin their "our democracy is at stake from fascists " fantasies because they have nothing else. They need Trump badly.
The GOP is pretty much pinning its hopes on Trump being successful at subverting state by state election systems.
