Unless Biden can turn around the economy by the middle of 2024, I generally agree. There are two other rays of hope for democrats though. First, I think Trump is almost guaranteed to run. But, if for some reason he doesn't, he is likely to be the GOP's worst enemy by trashing their nominee. He's not going to go out and stump for DeSantis or Nikki Haley or whomever. Anyone who thinks he will selflessly step aside for the "good" of our nation, the GOP or any other reason is incredibly naive.

The GOP is pretty much pinning its hopes on Trump being successful at subverting state by state election systems.

I think the motivation is overriding hatred of Biden and Dems so they don't stay home similar to what Dems did in 2020.- more of our democracy is at stake. It will be very entertaining.

Trump will control the narrative and if he's not the candidate it will largely consist of him trashing DeSantis. By comparison, complaints about Biden's gaffes won't rate very highly with the GOP base. Trump is going to cause a fracture if he's not the candidate.

Quite frankly, the economy is in unchartered waters and there is no telling what it will look like in 2024.

We have a Federal Reserve that has been "asleep" at the wheel and is now just coming to terms with inflation, not just by raising rates, but also cutting their $9 Trillion Dollar balance sheet. They've never done this (simultaneously) before. Moreover, their forecasting models have been so piss-poor that they've literally abandoned them and are focusing on top-line CPI and PCE numbers going forward. As a result, it's gonna take many many months to drop some of these high monthly inflation numbers from the YoY comparisions.

The risk is that the economy implodes in the second half of this year and the FED continues to tighten in order to get down to their 2% CPI target. And it's quite possible that we never see that 2% CPI rate again and the economy continues to display a 5 to 6% CPI. The Fed actually believes that with all of their tightening, the Unemployment Rate is only going to back up to 4.1% from 3.6% That sounds rather proposterous to me. It's anyone's guess given how unchartered these waters are. China's economy is horrible and the EU feels as though its about to fall off a cliff.

In my financial reading over the weekend, I even heard someone make the case for a "double-dip" recession like in the early 1980's.

And for what it's worth, although Q1 GDP was negative and it looks like Q2 will be negative as well . . . while technically meeting the "definition" of a Recession, it's quite possible that the past 2 quarters were so impacted by INVENTORIES that it's really not a meaningful representation of what is actually going on.

I don't know what you mean by 2 percenter. As for weak, Pete does a better job than anyone of communicating mainstream democrat policies and ideals and defending the Biden administration. Obviously Biden isn't the best mouthpiece and there is no one else in the administration who seems to be doing this. I would have expected Kamala to do it but she's been even weaker than Mike Pence, which is hard to imagine especially since she did a credible job attacking people during the campaign, even if it wasn't particularly helpful to her cause. Biden would have been better served by Warren or even someone like Jennifer Granholm.

Unfortunately Pete is still just a kid with very little political experience, but he's probably the best national politician right now at intelligently speaking to policy. There are other democrats who I think are pretty good like Chris Murphy and Jamie Raskin, but Pete regularly goes on Fox News and is able to effectively message on all manner of topics. I'm surprise they still have him on so often.

That would be great but I doubt it will happen. Hard to swap out a VP, particularly for Newsom. I would like to see Pete B become the VP if there would be a swap since Pete is the best messenger the democrats have right now and he could actually do something with the VP platform.

I don't think Dr. Biden is calling the shots - there is no indication we're in a Ron and Nancy situation.

The most likely scenario by far is Biden/Harris running against Trump in 2024. It will be interesting to see which of his children Trump chooses as his running mate.

I don't know what you mean by 2 percenter. As for weak, Pete does a better job than anyone of communicating mainstream democrat policies and ideals and defending the Biden administration. Obviously Biden isn't the best mouthpiece and there is no one else in the administration who seems to be doing this. I would have expected Kamala to do it but she's been even weaker than Mike Pence, which is hard to imagine especially since she did a credible job attacking people during the campaign, even if it wasn't particularly helpful to her cause. Biden would have been better served by Warren or even someone like Jennifer Granholm.

Unfortunately Pete is still just a kid with very little political experience, but he's probably the best national politician right now at intelligently speaking to policy. There are other democrats who I think are pretty good like Chris Murphy and Jamie Raskin, but Pete regularly goes on Fox News and is able to effectively message on all manner of topics. I'm surprise they still have him on so often.

You moved the goalposts quite a bit. Biden was the safe choice to defeat the worst president the GOP could find. He still is the safe choice when the GOP nominates the worst person they can find for the 3rd consecutive term. Trump will probably run again and lose in 2028 because the GOP won't be able to find anyone worse.

Yeah, Bernie was fun as a form of conveying discontentment, but he would have been a bigger disaster. Biden thought that his job was to appoint a diverse cabinet without much thought into a diverse AND COMPETENT cabinet and be the next FDR. Bernie would have thought that FDR was too conservative.

Unless Biden can turn around the economy by the middle of 2024, I generally agree. There are two other rays of hope for democrats though. First, I think Trump is almost guaranteed to run. But, if for some reason he doesn't, he is likely to be the GOP's worst enemy by trashing their nominee. He's not going to go out and stump for DeSantis or Nikki Haley or whomever. Anyone who thinks he will selflessly step aside for the "good" of our nation, the GOP or any other reason is incredibly naive.

The GOP is pretty much pinning its hopes on Trump being successful at subverting state by state election systems.

I think of it like this. If you want to destroy this Republic and Democracy then you will vote for the Criminal in Chief who is still trying to overturn the 2020 election. If you want to keep this Republic and Democracy intact you will vote for somebody who loves this country more than themselves.
