David Sacks: Silicon Valley should "think really hard" about 2024 vote

https://www.axios.com/2024/05/15/david-sacks-axios-bfd

"In a wide-ranging conversation at Axios BFD San Francisco, Sacks was asked a hypothetical question about taxing of unrealized gains, something the Biden administration has proposed as a means of engineering a fairer tax code.

What he said: "I don't think …the whole way that Silicon Valley works based on stock options and…widespread ownership of companies will survive in its current form if you have this, you know, 25% under gains tax," Sacks said."

Anyone who thought Trump was going to be more "anti-war" than Biden was fooling themselves. He just got lucky that Putin/Hamas did not decide to attack while he was in office.

On one hand Nikki is endorsing Trump, on the other hand, she has no real supporters.

A decent minority of Republicans are inclined not to vote for Trump. The question will be how many will hold their nose and vote for him, how many will not vote at all, how many will vote for a third candidate and how many will even vote for Biden.

Of course, the opposite is true on the Dem side.

How these numbers sort out in about six key states will determine the election.

What he said: "I don't think …the whole way that Silicon Valley works based on stock options and…widespread ownership of companies will survive in its current form if you have this, you know, 25% under gains tax," Sacks said."

I repeat: A tax on unrealized capital gains is one of the DUMBEST things that can ever be proposed.

It's still surprising to me that there are "educated" people that actually believe that we don't have a SPENDING problem in Washington, DC., and that the "cure" for massive deficits for as far as the eye can see is to simply tax unrealized gains and an upper class that ALREADY pays the bulk of the income taxes in this state and country.

Think the IRS can "account" for unrealized gains of the wealthy?
Hell, they can't even get the average American's income tax statements done in a timely manner.

But hey, I guess there will always be people who believe that GOVERNMENT KNOWS HOW TO SPEND OUR MONEY BETTER THAN WE DO.

How about another Bullet Train to LA?

How about a duplicative subway from BART thru San Jose and Santa Clara at a cost of $13 BILLION that was TRIPLE the original estimate and won't be done till 2037?

Think paying $2.1 BILLION is a good deal?

How is BART doing these days with ridership down 50%?
Will they have to start terminating service and closing stations in a couple of years given their massive deficit?

Or do you just want to keep throwing money down the toilet because GOVT KNOWS HOW TO SPEND YOUR MONEY BETTER THAN YOU DO!

Tax the rich

I always enjoy when people conflate Federal tax policy with state/local spending. They are completely different beasts. Federal spending is primarily distributions to old people and national defense. An insurance company with an army, as has been said.

State/local spending is completely different and if we lived in a world with two rational choices for leadership we could definitely have some good discussions. But in our current MAGAt environment that would be a waste of time. I have lots of ideas around cutting state / local spending. But also, states that spend the most have the best economies, so you'd have to be smart about it.

You still don't get it.

Federal, State, and Local Govt are run by people from poor skill-sets that can never be fired because of the unions that they belong to and literally never held accountable. Just about every single municipality that you can shake a stick at from Oakland to San Jose, as well as the State of California and Federal Govt are sporting MASSIVE DEFICITS.

Taxing the rich won't fix those deficits.
Duh.

What is the percent of Federal spending to government employees excluding military? Whatever your plans in that regard it's not going to make the problem go away.

Our government doesn't have a spending problem; it has a revenue problem. The reason we should tax the rich is because that's where the money is. Hell, if the poor had money, they wouldn't be poor! But I digress...

How much should we tax them? Wait a sec, let me check Zillow... Okay, I'd say start on wealth over two million, but nothing too steep until three million!

I know that youre being saraastic.
But the logic is terribly bizarre to me.

Anyone that thinks that there is a TALENTED workforce with competent managers and directors in the PUBLIC sector is either incredibly naive or terribly dumb. The talented people are in the private sector. And if there are capable people with good skill sets that start out in the public sector, it's only a matter of time before they leave and head into the private sector. You see this all the time . . . whether it's in Public Works or the DA's Office.

If you've ever really watched how some of these City Manager's have worked here in the Bay Area since the Dot-Com Bust, it's beyond any comprehension at all.

I've had personal experience with the City of San Jose.

No one is ever held accountable.
No one is ever fired or replaced.

People make repeated excuses and "cover" for each other.
They ignore inquiries made by the public and stonewall.

It's not where I want to see my tax dollars going.
Not at all.

Whatever you think of their current government, there is no doubt that the caliber of their top politicians and civil servant is pretty high.

Wow, is that true that Macron shut down ENA? (prestigious grad school for public administration in France)

It was something I always admired about France: In the face of Reaganism gone rampant, they realized that it wasn't government per se that is the problem; it's poor government.

Yes, Macron did shut it down a few years ago. Ironically, he along with the last couple of presidents symbolizes the decline in the quality of public service in France.

Tom Cotton: A rated by NRA-Check; Wants to send Federal troops into American cities-Check; War Hawk-Check; Has no problem with anything going on with regard to Gaza Invasion-Check.

It looks like Tom Cotton is the ideal VP pick for Anti anti tRumpers because that tRump Administration will teach Moderate Democrats a lesson they will never forget and they will never again oppose the Progressive take over of the Democratic Party.*

*Unfortunately Cotton is no fan of Russia so that alone is probably a deal killer.

The Adelsons gave Trump over $100 million the last time around, their funding this time around is conditional on Trump supporting Netanyahu's genocide in Gaza, they will have to approve his VP choice. That's why Trump is considering GOP establishment complete nutjobs like Cotton.
