This is clearly Biden's fault.

folks care about the economy. That's number one by a long shot….immigration and crime run distant second and third place respectively. What is clear is that the folks on this board are as disconnected from average Americans like Trump that believe the baloney….i mean when Fox News is sounding the alarm for Trump…

I was lucky to have a distant family member leave me a home and my partner had a neighbor looking to unload their tiny cabin for next to nothing.

That says nothing about my personal wealth and without either of those two things I wouldn't be able to afford a home at all. Average American.

California Liberal's non-existent forest management has caused more death and economic destruction. Actually, maybe that was the plan --> see Pacific Palisades. No water, DEI incompetent non-leaders, nearby fire allowed to smolder, heat, winds, budget cuts, no fire trails cut for decades bc of a mouse, milk thistle, and likely laziness. Walla!

Then the low-cost housing advocates pop out, and $100 million in fire donations vanish. Incompetent non-leaders still in charge. Two refineries closing. Only a handful of homes being built in Pacific Palisades.

The man-made disaster included: "placing backup generators in flood-prone areas, a lack of diversity in emergency power sources, and regional grid incompatibilities that hampered emergency response."

"Incompatible Frequencies: Japan operates on two different frequencies: 50 Hz in the east (where ***ushima is located) and 60 Hz in the west.

"Grid Isolation: This lack of a unified national grid meant that during the emergency, it was difficult to transfer power from the western grid to support the broken eastern grid."

Communication was poor, and safety companies had cozy relationships with the nuclear power outfits.

We should build 50 thorium plants before 2050. No radiation or risk of meltdown, no radioactive waste, cheap nuclear fuel. China is going to build that many plants in the next 3 decades, why can't we?

Are thorium plants clear-cut winners?

POTUS has always believed in an "all of the above" strategy. There is also money / plans to revive our nuclear industry thanks to POTUS.

I've heard some previously claim our nation's problem is that we'll have a half dozen or dozen designs, and we don't perfect and standardize on one or two models. That's what France did. So knowledge, personnel, parts aren't transferable.

Some recent activity:

"January 2026: The Energy Department announced a $2.7 billion investment to strengthen domestic enrichment, ...

"December 2025: The Energy Department awarded $800 million to TVA and Holtec to advance deployment of U.S. small modular reactors.

"October 28, 2025: The US Government established a strategic partnership with Cameco Corporation and Brookfield Asset Management to accelerate the development of Westinghouse's nuclear reactor technologies in the US and abroad.

"September 30, 2025: The Energy Department selected four companies for Advanced Nuclear Fuel Line Pilot Projects in order to strengthen domestic supply chains for nuclear fuel....

"August 12, 2025: The Energy Department announced the 11 initial selections for President Trump's Nuclear Reactor Pilot Program to move their technologies toward deployment.

In the case of thorium plants, the US is going to be a 2nd mover/late adopter with China doing most of the heavy lifting in R&D. Once they start scaling it up we could copy their design, not that we can't start on our own, but they are ahead and will get there first.

Thorium also will occupy many more niches than older nuclear tech, because it doesn't require being near large bodies of water for cooling, and it is better for small scale applications like large cargo or military boats or for smaller isolated towns.

Economically feasible? Advantages?
Cal88
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Advantages named above, cheap abundant fuel, safe, low radiation spent fuel, scalable, portable. Only disadvantage per se is the engineering challenge of long term containment of the highly corrosive molten salt used. The Chinese don't seem to think it is an insurmountable challenge.

Another disadvantage (or advantage, depending) is that the byproduct cannot be used to build nuclear weapons. That aspect was one of the main reasons it was abandoned as a powerplant technology several decades ago.
