The fact that you think Lin Wood is an important voice just because Trump has retweeted him when it serves his interest suggest you need some diversity in perspective in your daily life. Trump has retweeted from crazy people because he is crazy.

I think the opposite is true. You seem to be lacking in understanding the diversity of (mis)information that is reaching people and influencing our politics.

As an example, you had not heard of Epoch Times. A quick wikipedia review will tell you an April 2019 study showed they had the 11th most video views on facebook, twitter, and youtube. Higher than any conventional news source. Lin Wood is definitely a quack but I think you'd be surprised at his reach.

calbear93 is going through the stages of grief over having his party and side of the political spectrum leave him. He is in denial right now, but he will get there in the end. He still wants to believe that most of the conservative base is like him when poll after poll, backed up by media usage, demonstrates that a large majority of Republicans do consume this information and believe it.

93 - we all need to realize that the dramatic fault lines are shifting away from divisions between liberal and conservative to divisions between educated and uneducated. Of course, the Democrats have their uneducated and they have their conspiracy theorists, but you have nothing close to the level of acceptance of completely delusional theories that you have on the other side. Educated voters are flocking to the Democrats. No matter how much the scare tactic is used, it is clear that the uneducated left does not come close to controlling the Democratic Party. The uneducated right is in 100% control of the Republican Party. The Republican party is the one who is seeing a huge increase in people who are answering polls with acceptance of autocratic positions like supporting non-democratic means to their side winning.

The bottom line is, I think that you and I have a lot more in common than you and the people that are currently supporting the Republicans. As far as I'm concerned, an educated socialist, an educated capitalist who believes in government regulation, and an educated total free market capitalist can debate those issues when they are all willing to fight for what they believe but ultimately come to conclusions together for the good of the country. None of those people have anything in common with the bulk of those that are calling themselves conservatives at the moment. We can debate whether main stream media is liberal. But CNN, NPR, MSNBC, etc. are not close to the media the right wing is consuming. Fox is losing significant share to Newsmax because they finally found a line of sanity they won't cross. The fact that in our respective bubbles no one reads Epoch Times does not change the statistics of the numbers that do. I acknowledge that your type of conservative doesn't read Epoch Times. Your type of conservative has been kicked out of the Republican party

In my opinion, educated conservatives need to come to the Democratic party or at least be independents that ally with the Democratic party and the Democrats should welcome them and their views and be able to debate them within the party. We need to put aside our rivalry built over decades of being the only two games in town. The barbarians are at the door now. Your views are a lot less dangerous to me and my views are a lot less dangerous to you than what is being propagated by Trump Republicans and being accepted by at least 80% of the party.

I think you think that the conservative wing will build itself back when Trump goes. It isn't going to happen for a long time. The advent of the internet, "alternative" media, and the easy reach of con men to millions of uneducated voters is a perfect storm. George Will types no longer have an influence. You did the right thing. You voted against Trump. You have hope you will be able to go back. You won't. I welcome your views with open arms among the land of the sane. We have a bigger problem and that is 75 million people who voted for insanity. It is no longer viable to think that either side can harness the insanity to win a debate among two sane groups. Both parties have undermined norms thinking there was no cost. Both parties have used spin thinking that it can be distinguished from outright lying. What has happened the past 4 years is the ultimate result of that, but it cannot be discounted. We have to reset and that reset includes those who use facts and norms to align against those who won't even when they come to different conclusions using those facts and norms.

Apparently that was enough to write an essay in response.

Thanks for the summary

As I mentioned, it has not been my party for the last four years.

I have no interest in reading fringe materials from others and I cannot control what Facebook and Twitter enables to get this type of trash circulated on the web.

But just to be clear, it is not a choice anymore for me of one party over the other. It is candidate by candidate and policy by policy. I consider myself no more a Republican than I consider myself a Democrat. Like this election, I voted mostly blue and donated more to the left than the moderate Republican candidates. I don't feel the need to define myself through a party. I know myself much better than any party or any stranger here knows me.

11 GOP senators:

"And those allegations are not believed just by one individual candidate. Instead, they are widespread. Reuters/Ipsos polling, tragically, shows that 39% of Americans believe 'the election was rigged.' That belief is held by Republicans (67%), Democrats (17%), and Independents (31%)... [W]hether or not our elected officials or journalists believe it, that deep distrust of our democratic processes will not magically disappear. It should concern us all. And it poses an ongoing threat to the legitimacy of any subsequent administrations."

That is why this will never pass. Anyone who ran to serve and not just get elected under any means will vote against this. And my hope is that there will be enough Republican senators who will have had enough and vote against this (just like the veto override) that Trump's hold will break. And if they primary moderates in purple states with Trumpians as a result, it only helps the Democrats.

This kind of makes me want to puke. Mitt romney ran the most dishonest campaign for President any of us had seen in 2012. That will all be lost to history due to the Trump daily lie explosion that have caused Republicans to fall in love with Trump.

But Romney fully used the growing Republican love of lies to his advantage in 2012.

Disgusting and pathetic behavior from anyone, but even more so for a sitting president. The fact that 75% of republicans will still defend him betrays how they really feel about the constitution and our democracy. The fact that Trump isn't universally condemned in this country for his behavior will continue to be an embarrassment internationally.

I hope during the sham of a debate on 1/6 the Democrats take turns playing this audio to force people to listen to it.

I won't complain if it happens. However, I think we have repeatedly seen that the polls underestimate Republican voter turnout. Given that the races are so close I am expecting two close losses but maybe Trump's antics are turning some Republicans off.

In other states Republican voters were definitely underestimated. Not so much in Georgia.

That said, the polls are close enough that any result would be reasonable.

Some polls have missed Trump voters, but I don't think we've seen much evidence of underpolling Republicans in an election Trump does not participate in. That is the result I'm curious about.

Easy research here.
The answer is "no it's not", so long as the Georgia people on the call were aware of the recording. That doesn't mean they were the one to release it.

Georgia's wiretapping law is a "one-party consent" law for purposes of making audio recordings of conversations. Georgia makes it a crime to secretly record a phone call or in-person conversation "originat[ing] in any private place" unless one party to the conversation consents.

Interesting polling out of Georgia lately with some clear movement to democrats in the last week. The most interesting to me is the Trafalgar polling. Trafalgar is run by the nutjob partisan pro-Trumper who Cal88 relied on for his information going into the presidential election. There were some states in which Trafalgar was at least directionally accurate in the November election, at least in terms of Trump voters being underrepresented.

On December 16, Trafalgar released a poll giving the Georgia Republicans a small edge and on December 27, Trafalgar released a poll giving Georgie Democrats a small edge. He attributes the shift to the $2,000 stimulus bill. I don't trust Trafalgar. Everything he does is decidedly pro-Trump in my opinion. From that point of reference, the polling is interesting to me. If Trafalgar has Republicans staying home in Georgia, they probably will.

I'm thinking that GOP wins both seats, because November results showed that more people voted against Trump than for Democrats. Split tickets. Dems didn't perform as expected in both chambers, though Trump got crushed, in places like Georgia.

Should the Dems win - it's a whole new ballgame. Biden will be able to govern, pass legislation, and undo so much that is wrong. I hope they go at redistricting, the census, elections (including funding of, voter registration, equitable precinct coverage, and election day practices), the budget, the tax revenue, the environment, and yes - The Trump Corruption!

But, I can't allow any hope. It will have to be good enough that Trump is out, Biden is in.
