This idea of illegal immigrants taking jobs from US citizens is the biggest nonsense.

What type of jobs doesn't require social security number (which requires evidence of work-authorized immigration status)? If there are so many US citizens wanting these jobs, why are most of the job openings for these types of low paying roles? You think data analyst roles don't require SSN? How about lawyers? Are the Fords, GMs of the world risking PR move by hiring illegal immigrants for union assembly roles?

JD Vance is smart enough to know better.

Illegal immigration is a huge problem, we need more and faster path to legal immigration, we need to recruit the smartest people from other countries to innovate and grow our GDP, etc. Less talk and more action by the Republicans.

You would think that JD Vance should know better.
But he's carrying the Orange Man's water.

Even people like JD Vance who once declared himself a Never Trumper, has expressed shock at how much of an idiot Trump is, and has identified Trump correctly as noxious have realized that, in order to be a Republican and have a chance at a political career, a Republican has to bend the knee for Trump and kiss the ring.

What a joke of a party the Republican party has become where it has nothing to do with policy but more to blind loyalty to one man.
Trump won't live forever. Once he's gone it will be a very interesting time in the GOP.

If someone like Trump, with his documented history, can get elected once (or twice) it means that it can happen again unless politics and society changes. For me that means becomes more middle ground (again). Extreme sides are not good for our society. We'll see how far we have to sink to figure that out.
tl;dr...you may need room for more important dates.

Russia Russia Russia. Turns out that the GOP hearing today showed that Putin's interference may have been larger than previously known.

You can say that Parnas is a convicted felon, but he was convicted of helping Putin interfere in our elections and he was Rudy G's right hand man to help Trump manufacture false claims against Biden, so he certainly seems to have credibility in this matter. How many people have gone to jail for helping Trump so far? How many more will join them over the next few years?

And remember that the dead enders keep pretending like the Hunter laptop scandal wasn't the product of a Russian op lololol.

At least the GOP can stop pretending that this sham impeachment is going to go anywhere. How long before the dead enders start claiming that democrats created the impeachment hoax to make the GOP look even dumber than they already are?

Re the border crossings, I think an argument can be made that Trump talking about border crossings so much advertised how easy it was and this thought trickled (expanded) into Latin America and encouraged MORE crossings.
Has anyone considered this?

As for Biden's take, there are way better criticisms of Trump than the pandemic.

Getting harder to tell if Trump and his team are dumber than his voters at this point. This post is so preposterous. He is incapable of allowing anything close to the truth or any consistent message to be maintained.

Trump is trying to claim hardship in his legal filings to reduce his bond requirements but he has to lie constantly about how rich he is. He obviously has nowhere near $500M in cash (despite the fact that he claimed under oath recently to have more than $400M). He clearly isn't spending any of his own money on his campaign, he won't even pay for his personal legal expenses - exclusively relying on campaign grift for that. At this point, I'm guessing he's getting illegal kickbacks from his lawyers in order to launder some of his donations because I have a hard time believing he's paying his lawyers as much as has been publicly acknowledged.

In any event, he's a moron and continues to shoot himself in the foot with public statements.

Moving way away from this piece of Trump's stupidity, here's a contrarian Texan take on the border.

Quote:

I live in South Texas. I have watched our border for years. The one thing that really pisses me off is when some MAGA cult member who has been drinking from the right-wing propaganda hose for years tries to tell me what I have experienced, what I have lived. Here's the realityโ€ฆ

Under Obama/Biden the border was its most peaceful in 20+ years. When Trump took office everything blew up, caravans, disgusting detention centers in shopping centers, horrific child separations. A paper quagmire that the Biden administration is still sorting out. Nobody working for Trump was serious or had a plan. They just escalated cruelty and didn't do any of the paperwork. Like everything Trump did it was inept, incompetent, more harm than good.

Trump's entire administration was a series of incompetent missteps. Covid, body bags, billions in misplaced or stolen stimulus, 8 Trillion added to the deficit, stock market crash, rising inflation, security breaches, loss of classified documents, fake electors scheme, the ridiculous, violent, seditious insurrection at the capitol. All of the above while his corpulent ass golfed over 365 days out of four years.

Don't come on my timeline trying to impose your artificial reality that Obama (Black man bad!!!) caused the border crisis and the fantasy that the border was secure under Trump. There's a difference between what Trump says and what he does. He has always been all talk and no action.

Right wingers today are manipulating the gullible, using footage that was taken months ago and screaming "invasion!". It's important to remember that Republicans want it to be crazy, they need it to be crazy. That's why they blocked the most significant border reform legislation in decades. They can't complain about Joe Biden if we fix the problem. I for one am tired of our border culture being used as a political piรฑata by hacks that don't understand it.

The border can not be closed. If it is closed it has a negative impact on US GDP of $2 Billion a day. Families live on both sides of the border. People cross the border everyday, each way, to go to work, school, volunteer.

Right wing ignorance supposes that the Mexico side of the border is a no-man's land. It's not, our border cities are half in the US and half in Mexico, divided only by a checkpoint. They are communities. Unfamiliar to some, but a way of life for us. Non-nuanced black and white thinking is why Republicans keep losing elections. Ignorance about the border, ignorance about women's health, ignorance about the fascist threat that they are so hellbent on putting back in the White House so he can do more damage to our economy, security and standing in the world.

Do me a favor. Understand that reality is nothing like the Russia-fueled disinformation that is constantly spewed by Fox, Newsmax, OAN and all of the fear monger podcasts. It's all nonsense. Life here isn't perfect but it isn't a post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie either. Life in South Texas is peaceful and pleasant and nothing like the hellhole depicted on Right-Wing Propaganda outlets. Neither is the rest of America.

His stake in Truth Social is worth around $3B, based on current trading of the pre-merger SPAC stock. Truth Social is a tiny and failing social media company with like $1M in revenue in Q3 and $26M in losses. It's not growing and has no chance of ever becoming a successful business. The entire valuation is fake - it's based on some combination of (i) idiots who consider it a meme stock and are betting on the greater fool theory, or (ii) easily legalized money laundering. If corrupt foreigners decided to prop up the stock in order to do Trump a solid, it would be almost impossible to do anything about it.

The stock dropped 12% today right after the merger was approved, so perhaps the bottom will fall out soon, but it's impossible to know how much of the fake value will be maintained once it starts trading next week. All we know is that Truth Social has no real intrinsic value at this point and it is becoming less valuable over time as Twitter has become a conservative cesspool under Elno.

It's also impossible to know what, if anything, will cause Trump's baseline support to change.

His party is going after social security and medicare and his empty promises are just getting harder to justify. He will sign any bill the GOP puts on his desk which means if he wins and they somehow become capable of governing (a big if), they will cut social security and medicare.

Quote:

The budget was released Wednesday by the Republican Study Committee, a group of more than 170 House GOP lawmakers, including many allies of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Apart from fiscal policy, the budget endorses a series of bills "designed to advance the cause of life," including the Life at Conception Act, which would aggressively restrict abortion and potentially threaten in vitro fertilization, or IVF, by establishing legal protections for human beings at "the moment of fertilization." It has recently caused consternation within the GOP following backlash to an Alabama Supreme Court ruling that threatened IVF.

Ironically, two of the main accelerants behind the insolvency of social security are (i) Trump's dumb tax cuts, and (ii) reduction in immigration. But then economics have never been the GOP or Trump's strong suits. Trump's tariffs were inflationary and yet he's now calling for 10% tariffs on EVERY import which would cost American taxpayers some $300B, disproportionately impacting working class people, and would cause a massive trade war which would harm American workers.

And yet his maroons complain about inflation. Tariffs impacting working class Americans is hugely inflationary. Shifting tax burdens toward the wealthy is deflationary.

So let's play a little game. How much cash (or similar access to liquidity) does Trump currently have?

He said under oath a few months ago he has $400m+
Today he said he has $500m+
Last month his lawyer Habba said he was like a billionaire with obviously lots of moola.
His lawyers told the court he doesn't have the means to post a bond.

So which of the above statements were lies? How much cash does Trump really have? I assume we will find out at some point and then we can come back and see who was closest.

I would guess somewhere between $25 and $75m. He has a lot of expenses, virtually no access to credit and he runs a few high revenue low margin businesses so I don't think he can run too lean.

Anyone else want to play?

Trump has so many different buckets of cash that he can dip into, whether they are foreign or domestic, legal or not, fundraising from Maga idiots nationwide, etc., that we will never really know. I'm confident that he will do whatever he hast to do to pay that on Monday. I think the lawyer comments saying that they tried and failed at 30 Banks was both true and also a ploy to try and get a judge to reduce the amount or give him more time or something. It's all part of negotiation in his mind.

The thing that hurts Trump the most is letting an image of him get out there in the public mind that he's poor. And he is accomplishing that! That's why I think it was a mistake for him to have his lawyer make the statement as a negotiation tactic. Error.
But, Mondayโ€ฆ? We will be disappointed to see the issue disappear.
That's my guess.

But I would love it if a grenade landed on him and he lost his properties too.

The US goes into recession even before Trump can enact any tariffs.
That's because this time, instead of the stock market going up in anticipation of tax cuts, the stock market goes down in anticipation of chaos, and our international partners having faith in us. We will lose our place in global standing.

tRump is winning the race with Biden to the bottom of the mental health barel:

Forensic psychiatrist on physical signs of Trump's mental decline: "Changes in movement and gait" | Salon.com

https://www.salon.com/2024/03/25/forensic-psychiatrist-on-physical-signs-of-mental-decline-changes-in-movement-and-gait/

"My observations are as follows:

Changes in speech patterns with many fewer and simpler words (decline in vocabulary) with fewer adjectives and adverbs.

A decline in cognitive focus on speech subjects with incomplete sentences and an inability to focus on a topic long enough to complete a sentence when not reading from a teleprompter.

Difficulty pronouncing words, word substitution and nonsense words known as paraphasia

Tangential thinking where the topic switches mid-sentence to some unrelated topic.

Frequent repetition of words and phrases as if his mind is stuck in a loop.

Disinhibition and an inability to control verbal outbursts.

Socially inappropriate behavior mocking a man with muscular dystrophy, disrespecting fallen soldiers as losers.

Lack of self-awareness in that he apparently cannot see how inappropriate his behavior has become and use his judgment to stop himself.

Changes in movement and gait. His walk appears wide-based and he has developed a swing of his right leg. He appears glued to the floor when he "dances" for his audience. If caught on camera standing still, he appears unnaturally immobile.

The changes in judgment and impulse control have uncovered and perhaps worsened underlying personality traits that others have characterized as narcissistic and antisocial. The changes have led some experts to suggest a diagnosis of "malignant narcissism."
