Maybe that's a way to keep the bots away.

The Irish guy in ICE detention reminds me of the scene in the Daniel Day Lewis film, In the Name of the Father, when imprisoned IRA man Joe McAndrew goes to speak with Smalls, leader of the Protestant gang in the prison:

McAndrew: "If anything happens to me, or Gerry, or any other Irish prisoner, we'll have 54 Halsey Road, blown to smithereens with your family in it.

Smalls: You threaten my family, I'll cut your f@ucking head off.

McAndrew: I don't make threats, I just carry out orders. I don't want to hurt your family."

It survived 800 years of England's jackboot grinding her face into the cobblestones yet Eire prevailed and rose again.

The California courts never had jurisdiction over ICE with regard to that issue. They could have just ignored the state court order and there would have been no consequences. It was solely a toothless symbolic gesture.

They should display badge numbers unless they are working under cover….and an officer like this isn't working under cover:

A toothless symbolic gesture coming from the California Legislature and Gavin Newsom? Perish the thought.

That said, there ought to be a federal law prohibiting masked law enforcement officials. Only Batman should be able to get away with that.

You do understand that 79 being held for over two years would mean they were there for nearly a year under Biden?

Is there a state law banning law enforcement from wearing masks? If not, why doesn't Newsom do that?

We all know why

0.1% were held by Biden. The magat brain at work, folks.

Bro. You know how math works right? Trump has been president for barely over a year. Meaning those 79 people were held for at least a year under Biden also. How do you explain that?

Calling it right now:

This is not the kind of guy that a majority of Americans would want deported. A guy who has lived here a long time, is married to an American, and is running his own business. Seems like someone who should get a fast track to citizenship or permanent residency. Most people definitely don't think he should be sitting in concentration camp conditions indefinitely.

Probably shouldn't call Club Fed a concentration camp.

I think your team is still trying to figure out the difference between legal and illegal immigration.

Granting exceptions or amnesty-like pathways for long-term undocumented immigrants would encounter significant legal obstacles. Consider the following (yes, this is AI):

Creating targeted exceptions could raise equal protection concerns under the Fourteenth Amendment, potentially leading to lawsuits arguing that such policies arbitrarily favor certain groups over others, such as distinguishing between long-term residents and recent arrivals.

Past attempts at reform, like the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act, faced court challenges over eligibility criteria and fraud prevention, setting a precedent for protracted litigation.

The U.S. government lacks the infrastructure to efficiently verify and process exceptions for millions of long-term undocumented individuals. U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) already deals with massive backlogs, with asylum applications often pending for years, and introducing exceptions would exacerbate this, requiring new verification systems for residency duration, employment history, and criminal records.

Proving continuous long-term presence without formal records is challenging, as many undocumented immigrants avoid official documentation to evade detection, leading to high rates of application denials or fraud allegations. Scaling this would demand billions in additional funding for personnel, technology, and adjudication, Coordination across agencies like DHS, ICE, and state governments adds complexity, especially with inconsistent state-level cooperation.

Less than 14% of those arrested by ICE in Trump's 1st year back in office had violent criminal records, document shows - CBS News

39% have no criminal record.

Sounds like a flawed operation.
