Actually, that's what Republicans have been doing on nearly every issue for years. God forbid that something gets done that the Democrats might get credit for.

Similarly, in the last day or two, Trump was saying he hoped that the economy crashes before the 2024 election.

Let's put our tribal gears aside for a minute, and just see how certain states and governors / mayors set themselves up for accusations of hypocrisy. When both Democrats and Republicans in Arizona and Texas were seeking help to turn away illegal crossings, with a lot of the immigrants encouraged by Biden's election and his desire to differentiate himself from Trump, many states in the Northeast were being sanctimonious, setting up sanctuary cities and making it harder to enforce immigration laws. It's always easy to play the moral cards and speak of the need for sacrifice when it is someone else who has to sacrifice while you get all the glory. The only governor I thought had any right to talk about the need for more compassionate treatment of illegal immigrants was Newsom. He however has had mixed statements, including statements that California's budget will break without some action by the federal government. The federal government under Biden has been entirely ineffective and unwilling to take action other than point to supremacy clause. To be fair - no serious action has been taken on immigration by either party in decades - kind of like social security and medicare - no one wants to deal with reality and fix it because they are too focused on the next election instead of actual solutions that may be unpopular, but Biden has made the illegal immigration problem worse than it was under Obama and Trump. Now that these governors have to deal with even a sliver of what California, Texas, and Arizona have to deal with, these "sanctuary city" governors and mayors who were mocking the border state leaders are now pleading for help and condemning the non-action of the federal government. Why was it ever fair for the cost of inaction by the federal government that has sole jurisdiction to be dumped on a few states? If Mayorkas is ever impeached, he is done.

President Trump actually went around Congress and built 500 miles of 30' tall Wall, along with other security measures. Another 200 miles was in the works.

He also used heavy leverage to get the Presidents in Central and South America to stop their outflow.

Biden stopped both, and actually welded some border gates open.

Far Northern California is now controlled by Chinese, Hmong, and Mexican drug cartels using 'trimmigrants' to process their multi-Billion dollar drug trade and subvert our laws.

If this shooter were to be a racist, I could see a situation where a race riot rises up in Texas. Back and forth. Tit for tat.

And then when it's real ugly some will look back and say, "well, you could have just absorbed them into the culture, but no, you had to create this racial division. So, good luck!"

If France is anything like California, I'm sure they'll still get free health care, education, and hand outs from private entities (Head Start, etc). And Progressives will backdoor the laws wherever possible.

How about residency verification for employment?

The quagmire is that these EU countries have very low birth rates, so they needed a certain number of low-level job seekers. Now the social costs are off the charts. A friend says "Germany is lost, France, Sweden are gone. Look at the birth rates."

I was in Paris around 2000, and saw several cases of possibly immigrant men manhandling women in public. Outside the train station I was able to flag a police officer down (an apparent North African man had a NA woman pinned against the wall w a key forced against her stomach). In a Parisian bar, an immigrant was rough with a Parisian woman, and dozens of patrons did nothing. I don't speak French, it seemed like a lovers quarrel, so couldn't ascertain nuances. In the Republique District, I stepped into a bar for a cold beer mid-day. As I started to enter there was a VERY tough vibe, primarily Middle Eastern folks, so I went straight to the large bar manager for a drink to establish myself eye to eye. Some men were squabbling with a smaller man. Within 3 minutes the bar manager exited the bar with the target and several colleagues, came back and dunked his reddened knuckles in the ice behind the bar. (He also let loose a piece of lead about the size of a roll of nickles he grasped when he unleashed his beating. I guess it makes punches more brutal.)

Walking the streets at night, escorting some female tourists back to their hotel safely, several times I saw young educated French men spitting at each other with great anger. It seemed hysterical, the ultimate false bravado, and possibly a signal to me of the feminization of many young French men. Strange cultural artifact? (I googled it later, one post said it was a stereotype.) I did see some strapping, all-white French police riot crew with a large soup kettle set up in one riot van. The French over 70 were terrific. I had a cab driver from Algeria who was terrific. "I am an immigrant, and I am French! I speak the language, I cook the traditional food, I honor our laws and celebrate our holidays. This is *not* the new way. It is terrible."

Tangential. I never saw an adequate explanation of
how the Notre Dame fire occurred. How did it lite so quickly, with extensive security and safeguards? I used to have a fireplace, and lighting oak firewood was a bear.
