It was recently posted here that Russia may win in Ukraine if we don't send another 60 billion dollars and, if they win in Ukraine, NATO countries are next. Using this brilliant liberal logic, I have deduced that California is likely next and Russia will enforce an abortion ban with Trump as governor.

The outrage at the system is there for the taking, but you don't join in on it. In 2016, 69 year old Hillary Clinton received the most votes to be President. If she won a 2nd term, she would be finishing her Presidency this year at 77 (Trump's current age and Biden's age when he was first elected). Of course, with Trump defeated in 2016, the Republican Party would have had the opportunity to run a younger candidate in 2020. The Democratic Party would not be turning to Biden now - Biden being the 2020 candidate of getting old people votes in the Rust Belt to counter old man Trump, who was installed by the Electoral College and not by the voters of America. Once again, the Electoral College is a big part of our electoral dysfunction.82gradDLSdad said:Unit2Sucks said:

We could compare these two (refraining from a name here) forever and yet we don't figure out how to get better choices. We don't hear a united outrage over this horrible system we seemingly have no control over in a democracy. I'll sleep better knowing that I didn't vote for either of these two.

Another part of our electoral dysfunction is not making it easier for young people to vote with automatic voter registration and easy college registration. The U.S. median age is 38.2 years. Electorally disadvantaged California is 37.3. Also electorally disadvantaged Texas is the youngest state in the nation at 35.2. How does Texas respond to having a young demographic? According to analysis from the Texas Tribune, Texas is the hardest state for voting and has among the lowest voter turnout.
Getting younger candidates is simple. Make it easier to vote and get rid of the Electoral College. But I think you would prefer Biden v. Trump to that infusion of democracy.

Maybe these posts have thrown out some good karmic vibes. CNBC just had on, for the first time, the candidate I feel is, BY FAR, the best for this country at this time...Dean Phillips. And it's not even close. He's a current democrat congressman but isn't afraid to call out Biden, his party and Trump. I've only voted for one democrat and it was only because of Trump. But I'd vote for this guy over anyone right now. It's incredible he's getting squashed in the amount of coverage he's getting. I'm starting my groundswell campaign for him here on BI. And please (not you Dajo) don't throw in my face my failed Ramaswamy push. He went off the cliff early with me and I said as much. Phillips at least has a reasonable business background and impressive political background. I can't believe folks aren't falling over themselves for this guy given ANY of our other choices, on both sides.

We have no idea if Dean Philips would be a good president. A lot of progressives thought Andrew Yang was a great alternative and a lot of conservatives thought Vivek was a good alternative.
These people haven't been tested in a competitive campaign. The reason Dean Philips has no supporters isn't because the DNC is holding him back, it's because the vast majority of democrats are aware that it's going to be Trump vs Biden and that a random guy has no chance of winning.

Sorry but he's not a party leader, he's a random third term congressman who has not distinguished himself in any way. Can you name any legislation he's sponsored? Or meaningful committee assignments? What impact has he had in congress? As for business, he runs his family's business (that was successful before he joined). There are dozens of random "impressive" people like him in congress and none of them would beat an incumbent for the presidency either. Biden isn't impressive but he's proven that he can get a team in place that can get stuff done. He's achieved more during his term than just about anyone expected and his biggest problem is that he remains a gaffe machine, and an older version of what he's always been. He's restored some of the luster that we lost internationally under Trump and history will rate him favorably. You don't take a guy like that and replace him with a random third-term congressman. That plus people will eventually find out Philips is jewish (when the GOP starts attacking him for being a (((globalist))) and we all know that our candidates still have to pretend to be Christian to make it to the white house.
Sure, but those people would all lose too and rational people (like Newsom, Klobuchar, Duckworth, etc) all recognize this. I understand your frustration but most people who run for president have a reason to do so. Sometimes it's legitimate and sometimes it's not. I have no idea why Phillips is running, but it's not to become President in 2024. The generous side of me says it's because he wants to raise his profile to eventually become an important person who does things to help this country.82gradDLSdad said:Unit2Sucks said:Sorry but he's not a party leader, he's a random third term congressman who has not distinguished himself in any way. I'd love for random impressive people to run and call out the two buffoons that are seemingly our only choices. But this guy is the only guy who's got the balls to try. We might as well have a cardboard cutout of Biden if he gets elected and wonder just who is making the decisions. At least with Feinstein we could see the person next to her telling her to vote 'yes'.

Oh, now I feel better.
Every leak talks about how engaged and coherent Biden is behind closed doors. And with Trump he sounds like even more of a toddler, who can't even focus for 5 seconds and requires pictures to keep him engaged. And yet only one is getting the 'cognitive decline' treatment.

I mean I knew our national political press was despicable, stupid, and opportunistic, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine they’d try to engineer the 2024 election to be about whether we need to restore mental acuity to the White House by re-electing Donald Trump
— Will Stancil (@whstancil) February 9, 2024
there are 500 reporters in DC who would kill a man for a scoop about how Biden secretly has dementia or whatever, and all we have instead is a report from a Republican that cherry-picks a few “when did that happen, again?” comments from hours and hours of interviews
— Will Stancil (@whstancil) February 9, 2024
but where are the reports from staffers? from foreign leaders? from people who interviewed Biden? there isn’t anything! to me that’s a pretty big clue what’s happening

"Everyone who sees Biden doing his job behind closed doors says he is fully capable"
Oh, now I feel better.
There has been virtually none of that during Biden's presidency. This is what some normalcy looks like. Biden continues to be a gaffe machine but the infighting but there are virtually no operational parallels between Biden's ship and the scandal-ridden prior administration. How many major cabinet members has Biden burned through in his 3+ years in office? 1. Trump had 14 during his tenure.
You can attribute it however you want to, but it's hard not to acknowledge that it speaks well for Biden's actual performance. Whether you like his policies is a completely different story but if any of the stuff the right wing outrage machine claims were true, you would be hearing about it. For example, if some person or group of people were pulling all the strings, you would have disgruntled out of favor officials providing a constant drip of material to the press in DC. The press eats this stuff up and would do anything they can to share it. That's what we saw during the Trump admin and we would see it here. Instead, the press relentlessly focuses on amplifying the right wing attacks on Biden's age and son.
I posted about this same issue weeks ago.Every leak talks about how engaged and coherent Biden is behind closed doors. And with Trump he sounds like even more of a toddler, who can't even focus for 5 seconds and requires pictures to keep him engaged. And yet only one is getting the 'cognitive decline' treatment.
— Centrism Fan Acct 🔹 (@Wilson__Valdez) February 11, 2024I mean I knew our national political press was despicable, stupid, and opportunistic, but never in my wildest dreams did I imagine they’d try to engineer the 2024 election to be about whether we need to restore mental acuity to the White House by re-electing Donald Trump
— Will Stancil (@whstancil) February 9, 2024there are 500 reporters in DC who would kill a man for a scoop about how Biden secretly has dementia or whatever, and all we have instead is a report from a Republican that cherry-picks a few “when did that happen, again?” comments from hours and hours of interviews
— Will Stancil (@whstancil) February 9, 2024but where are the reports from staffers? from foreign leaders? from people who interviewed Biden? there isn’t anything! to me that’s a pretty big clue what’s happening
