This article seems a little far-fetched ("How death threats get Republicans to fall in line behind Trump"), but it's hard to fully discount. Judge Engoron received a bomb threat today and Jack Smith was swatted on Christmas day. MAGA nation is deplorable and takes Trumps violent calls to action literally.

Quote:

"Now," Inglis says, "members of Congress face that [level of hostility] routinely."

In 2016, the Capitol Police recorded fewer than 900 threats against members of Congress. In 2017, that figure more than quadrupled, per data provided by the Capitol Police.

The numbers continued to increase in every year of the Trump presidency, peaking at 9,700 in 2021. In 2022, the first full year of Biden's term, the numbers went down to a still-high 7,500.
...
"It's not even accurate to say [threatening election workers] was rare prior to 2020. It was so rare as to be virtually nonexistent," David Becker, executive director of the Center for Election Innovation & Research, told me in 2021. "This is beyond anything that we've ever seen."
...
Former Rep. Peter Meijer (R-MI) recalls one of his House colleagues privately condemning Trump's claims of election fraud, but voting to overturn the election results on the evening of January 6 just hours after the assault.

"My colleague feared for family members, and the danger the vote would put them in," Meijer wrote in a Detroit News op-ed. This fear wasn't idle: After voting to impeach Trump, Meijer himself faced so many threats that felt the need to purchase body armor.

And reporters confirmed these accounts.

"I know for a fact several members *want* to impeach but fear casting that vote could get them or their families murdered," journalist Tim Alberta tweeted before the House impeachment vote.

Fun Fact: David Becker, cited and quoted above, was the Drum Major of the Cal Band in the mid/late 1980s!

CNN had Trump on for a while. I'm tempted to say they cut away because he got boring, except an hour before that they spent a good fifteen minutes on one of the precincts actually counting the votes, one by one, in real time. Worst election-night-type TV I've ever seen.

In the Iowa caucuses this evening, Trump won in votes from non-college-educated voters with something like 65%. Among college graduates, he still won, but with only something like 35% of the vote.

Why does he do so much better now with less educated voters?

Presumed answer: Pointy-headed intellectual elites lack basic common sense.

Which is surprising when you think about the long list of achievements that the Democrats have for the black and Latino communities over the last three years.

You are nonsensical.
The entire point of my statement is that candidates drop out after 1 or 2 states. And that may or may not be representative of the entire democracy.

Further, I noticed that the total votes received was about 100,000 in Iowa. That represents x% of the total population. Therefore, it's not even a true democracy with the island of Iowa itself.

Extra: you know exactly well the point I'm making. But you enjoy barbs more than you are willing to say, "fair point".

If the GOP wanted to decide their best candidate, why ask just a few people in Iowa and New Hampshire?

There are plenty of nonsensicals like this in our nation, such as why do the Dems have no primary? -because Biden wants to be a 2-termer. Or, why do Wyoming and Vermont get way more electoral college votes per capita than CA TX or FL?

It's always been this way.

The caucus' are a joke. They aren't a real caucus - they are basically a time-limited in-person voting system and a quite limited demographic (98% white, 41% 65+, 76% 45+, 55% favor nationwide abortion ban).

They've failed the last 3 cycles to choose the eventual nominee (Ted Cruz (who Trump accused of cheating, naturally), Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee were the past 3 winners).

And Trump, despite being the GOP incumbernt got just 51% of the vote. Imagine if Biden got 51% of the vote in a primary. The "liberal" media would be freaking out about what this means but for Trump we get ridiculous stories like CNN calling it a political "comeback" and touting it as the biggest win in Iowa history lol.

The real story is how many Republicans in Iowa refuse to vote for Trump. The fact that he only garnered half the vote against a bunch of zeroes like Haley, Ron D and Vivek shows how much weaker Trump is than he was in 2020.
