Your talk of independent voters reminded me of Bill Maher's quote about the undecided voters in 2016:

"And that, in a nutshell, is America's celebrated, undecided voter: put on a pedestal by the media as if they were Hamlet in a think-tank, searching out every last bit of information, high-minded arbiters pouring over policy positions and matching them against their own philosophies. Please, they mostly fall into a category political scientists call 'low information voters,' otherwise known as 'dipsh@its."

Maher went on to point out that the Octa-Mom has publicly declared she is an undecided voter and that she does not know who Mitt Romney is. Kim Kardashian also announced she is an undecided voter."

This is a good example of an undecided GOP voter. Doesn't exactly give me confidence in the electorate. Trump figured out that you don't win by reasoning with these people, you con and grift them. His problem is that there aren't enough people like this who are still falling for the con.

Quote:

"And trust me, the guy's a pig, he's a womanizer arrogant a-----e," Johnson said of Trump. "But I need somebody that's going to go in and lead, and I need somebody that's going to take care of the average guy."
"But is taking care of the average guy and breaking the system the same thing?" I said.
"Yes," he said. "Because they're all in it for themselves."
"And if you break the system, what does that look like?"
"Accountability," he said.
...

"Accountability is accountability. But they're throwing so much stuff at this guy, and it's almost like I'm rooting for him," he told me. "This is a whole system of government going after one man who, probably, I bet, right now, 85 million people want to be president."
"But accountability is accountability," I said.
"Accountability is accountability," he said.
"Whether it's Hunter Biden or Donald Trump," I said.
"But do I trust the system?" he said. "I don't."
"You're a veteran," I told him. "You are somebody who doesn't trust the system that in the broadest sense you served."
"I have no trust," he said.
"The system you served," I said again.
"That's right. I swore an oath," he said. "I believed in that oath."
"When did you stop believing?" I asked Ted Johnson.
"About when Trump became president," he answered.

I agree with this guy that the system is broken and needs to be exposed / torn down. I would laugh at those who still believe in it, except it's so tragic. The problem is a) Trump is not to be trusted to even try to tear it down for right reasons - he's always self motivated, which ironically makes him fundamentally the same as that which would be torn down; and b) we are seeing right in front of our eyes that one man can't do it. "The system" wins…and this will be proven when Trump is seen being walked into a prison.

What I think is on the mind of many a Trump voter:

- He will be convicted of something: "Good! So what? Screw it! Being President from prison...I like it!"
- He's always self-motivated: "We are all self-motivated. At least he's honest about it! Screw it!"

It's what we've come to: Trump, the billionaire New Yorker, resonates with the disenfranchised American.

I know very 'franchised' Americans who are saying '**** it' I'm voting for Trump. There is almost nothing he can do or have done to him that will change their minds. It is incredible. And to be such a knucklehead (not you, Big C) to just name call these folks completely misses how off the rails our system is.

I think a lot of it boils down to unspoken anger about how brown, and open to LGTBQ, and unreligious younger generations are. That category of people are the deplorables.

Thinking Trump is a solution to how off the rails we are is bonkers. If I were being charitable I would say he's a symptom of the rot. In so many ways he's a product of the GOP outrage machine dating back to Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh.

My dad used to listen to those guys and eventually he woke up and realized how bad they were. Now he sees the GOP for what it became a few decades ago and how much worse it has gotten lately.

It's ludicrous to think that Trump will do anything to improve this country or our government. He didn't do it with his first 4 years in office and his revenge tour certainly wouldn't do it.

Of course I'm not surprised his shrinking fan base is still falling for his scam.

You make good points. My opinion is that Trump Derangement Syndrome trumps these rational points. Prosecutors and judges cannot stop themselves at a pound of flesh (conviction) and will insist on prison because it's the next best thing for them short of assassination.

You think sentencing Trump for crimes he is convicted of is some sort of made up syndrome?

Holding public officials accountable for felony crimes they've committed should be a sign of health in a functioning democracy. Whether it's Biden, Trump, Santos or anyone else. Sadly, there is a group of tens of millions of Americans shouting "TDS" when anyone believes Trump should face consequences for his misconduct.

Too bad tRump didn't hang around for the reading of the verdict so that he could have said to the jury:

*I almost get soggy thinking about how much fun enforcement of judgment procedures will be against tRump because he will never pay voluntarily:

Examination of debtor deposition;

Post judgment interrogatories;

Post judgment demand for inspection of documents;

Separate action to set aside fraudulent transfer of assets;

Retaining sophisticated investigators to discover the whereabouts of assets; and

Having him charged with perjury when he lies under oath during enforcement of judgment proceedings.

tRump will absolutely have to eliminate the judicial system when he becomes POTUS.

By chance, if tRump decides to pay the judgment voluntarily to avoid time consuming and demeaning enforcement of judgment proceedings, all he need do is send one encrypted text to JBS and the Saudi Embassy will dispatch a Tesla Cybertruck with $83M in gold bars and diamonds to the financial institution of E. Jean Carroll's designation.

*If tRump doesn't want to pay voluntarily and play cat and mouse hiding assets, he is better off not appealing because in that case he will have to post an appeal bond to secure the judgment.

Comer says Kushner 'crossed the line of ethics' with Saudi deal

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) said Thursday that Jared Kushner, former President Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser while in office, "crossed the line of ethics" by accepting a $2 billion investment from the Saudi government in his private investment firm six months after he left the White House.

In an interview on CNN's "The Lead with Jake Tapper," Comer acknowledged an argument made by 2024 GOP presidential candidate Chris Christie, who noted Kushner's extensive work in the Middle East on behalf of the Trump White House and claimed in an earlier interview "the Trump family has been involved in grifting for quite some time."

"I've been vocal that I think that what Kushner did crossed the line of ethics," Comer said on CNN

Kushner served his father-in-law in an official capacity as a senior adviser while Trump was president. He met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on behalf of the Trump administration and played a key role in defending the Saudi government after the U.S. concluded the crown prince had approved the killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi for criticism of the kingdom.

In 2022, the House Oversight panel, under Democratic leadership, launched a probe into the $2 billion investment Kushner secured from the Saudi Private Investment Fund (PIF), which is controlled by the crown prince.

"Your close relationship with Crown Prince bin Salman, your pro-Saudi positions during the Trump Administration, and PIF's decision to fund the lion's share of your new business venture only six months after the end of your White House tenure create the appearance of a quid pro quo for your foreign policy work during the Trump Administration," former Oversight Chairman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) wrote in a letter to Kushner at the time.

In the interview Thursday, Comer insisted the ultimate goal is to change the way Washington works so people cannot benefit from the high-powered jobs their family members have.

"We're trying to do that," Comer said when asked about changing the way Washington works. "That's been the goal from day one is to have a legislative fix. A lot of the President's defenders, especially in the media, say that, 'Well, this influence peddling is a cottage industry in Washington.' Well, it needs to change."

Of course I read it.
And give me a break! Of course I think Trump would ask/demand that Jared commingle funds! And I don't have any reason to believe that Jared has the ability to say No.

Call the $2B a finders fee or commission. Trump would absolutely think he is entitled to it!

On May 20, 2017, U.S. President Donald Trump and Saudi Arabia's Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud signed a series of letters of intent for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to purchase arms from the United States totaling US$110 billion immediately, and $350 billion over 10 years.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_United_States%E2%80%93Saudi_Arabia_arms_deal#:~:text=On%20May%2020%2C%202017%2C%20U.S.,%24350%20billion%20over%2010%20years.

Are you dense to not be aware of this arms deal, dense to not realize the $2B was surely a kick back quid pro quo gift to Ivanka, dense to not think Trump would view it as "his", or dense to think Jared has the ethics and backbone to manage an investment fund properly?

The Saudis are throwing money around at golf tournaments. You think they care about return rates? No. They are playing politics. And they have bought the US military industrial complex.

Don't be a fool, Oski.

If you want to get out of the world of make believe, you can hypothesize that Kushner can use commissions from his investment fund to support Trump. However, stop lying about Kushner just having $2 billion at his disposal to do what the Trumps want with. That is absolutely false. You wouldn't sound so ridiculous if you didn't start so far from the truth. Don't be a lying TDS fool.

Who is going to stop any find transfers?
Please tell me, when Kushner contacts the bank to wire money to a brokerage for purchase for S&P index funds, does anybody stop that?
And when Kushner contacts the bank to wire money to a bank X for ?, does anybody stop that?

Honestly, I think you must be a fool.

They drafted and passed a law just so they could bypass the state of limitations and Trump could be sued for an unreported rape with no witnesses or physical evidence that allegedly occurred 30 years ago. If Kushner embezzled this widely known $2b dollars, he'd certainly be caught.

Honestly, I think you must be a fool.

He actually IS on ignore.
I cheated and clicked. Breaking my own boundaries. Just like how Trump broke Carroll's. Just like how Kushner will break fiduciary norms. It happens.
