There are actually dumba^^ Trump supporters all over social media actually claiming that these tariffs on Mexico and Canada are "great" and will bring in massive amounts of "revenue" to the U.S. Treasury which will wind up eliminating the need for a federal income tax.

Trump wanted the tariffs against Canada, backed by the high-level economic argument that... Trudeau pissed him off.

Look, in some instances (fairly rare), targeted tariffs can be a good idea. However, just about zero economists who actually believe in capitalism are for these Trump tariffs. And they will come back to haunt him, provided the non-Trumpers can message this effectively (big "if", perhaps).

It is you that is WRONG.

A.) The CPI did in fact increase from 1.3% in 2016 to 2.4% in 2018.

B.) His tariffs on China were only $360 billion and spread out over time via four tranches.

C.) This time around, inflation is alive and well as confirmed by bond yields. The supply chain still has issues.

D.) His tariffs on Canada (25%) and Mexico (25%) are all at once and cover $1.3 Trillion in goods. Nearly 4x that of before.
