You do realize that this (partial) rebound only happened because Trump reversed his stated policy, right? Not going through with your own bad idea doesn't mean you're a genius.

1. Trump craters the stock market with his stupid, crazily implemented tariffs idea.

2. Trump puts a 90-day pause on most of his stupid tariffs idea. Stock market shoots up, though still lower than with Biden.

3. Trump supporters say Trump made the stock market shoot up; all hail Donald J Trump!

In a way -- a bizarre way, but still... -- you have to admire their relentless spin. And, sadly, their version will be all many Americans hear: Trump took a few questions from "the press" this morning and wouldn't you know, every question was from a trump sycophant.

As Bearister alluded to, I would love to see the "insider" trading transactions by anyone even remotely associated with this White House.

The fact that $39 Billion of 10 Year Treasuries were auctioned off 3 basis points below the market at 1:00 PM Eastern was the big "tell".

Someone knew.

Comrades, 125% tariff on China is still in effect in addition to 10% reciprocal tariffs for the rest. Markets have responded favorably.

Regarding "globalism", people seem to think that we can just choose to not have it, or not be a part of it. Folks, that is no more possible than not having computers or not having AI, whatever.

With 21st century communication and transportation throughout the world, globalism is here to stay. The best we can do is to manage it in such a way that we continue to prosper.

Trump, Lutnick, and Navarro want to take the U.S. back to 1979 .... where Americans can work on assembly lines making the T-shirts that China makes and the Nike's that Vietnam makes.

Makes zero sense.

Meanwhile, none of these clowns ever talk about the trade "imbalances" that result from the U.S. being the GLOBAL LEADER IN SERVICES.

With the Orange Man, its about producing "goods" and nothing about "services".

Shocker.

I'm not upset about them. I'm upset about the 15% of my retirement fund that's evaporated.

If you're nearing retirement and your 401k consists mainly of managed target funds, a large percentage of your portfolio should be allocated to bonds instead of stocks?

This is correct. I am not sure why the poster above me is mocking conventional wisdom.
because it's not even close to conventional wisdom. Between 03, lover of movies and 2034 please don't offer any portfolio allocation and strategy advice. It's like the Lutnick trio

What should someone near retirement age do then? Shouldn't they get more conservative in case the market drops?
of course. There is an array of low risk options. But if you are "nearing" retirement bonds would NOT be my investment of choice when you consider you got 30 more years to go. That's all the advice I'll give. Everyone has their own risk spectrum. Pretty clear how old I am given my BI name. Good luck out there. The market was a complete disaster this last week and self inflicted. For someone newly retired it's not a joke.

The "100 minus your age" rule suggests subtracting your age from 100 to determine the percentage of your portfolio you should invest in stocks, with the remaining percentage allocated to bonds or other fixed income investments.

Here's a breakdown:

The Rule:
The core concept is to subtract your age from 100 to arrive at the suggested percentage of your portfolio that should be invested in stocks.

Example:
If you are 30 years old, the rule suggests investing 70% (100 - 30) in stocks and 30% in bonds or other fixed income investments.

Rationale:
This rule is based on the idea that younger investors have a longer time horizon and can tolerate more risk, while older investors, closer to retirement, prioritize capital preservation and a more stable income stream.

Limitations:
The rule is a general guideline and may not be suitable for everyone, as individual circumstances and risk tolerance can vary. SmartAsset says that a one-size-fits-all approach can lead to unintended consequences, especially in changing economic environments or under unique personal circumstances.
many of these rules have changed and older folks now have to take on more risk..at least that's my experience

Charles Schwab said he's been waiting for forty years for someone to take on China. BTW, China reeling.

Not all manufacturing will come back, but some will. We need a middle class, and security. Pharmaceuticals seems a logical security issue - could we give some Federal land and incentives to several different companies to make them in Tennessee or Puerto Rico?

President Trump's earlier efforts helped launch silicone chip production in Arizona.

Let's be clear how this compares to the Democrats plan of the last four years.

- flood the country w 10 - 15 million new illegal immigrants, largely illiterate in two languages and with few job skills
- sign millions up for SS number, Medicare, and register them to vote
- no job training or language classes, and tens of thousands of violent felons were invited into our country
- overwhelm social services and housing from coast to coast, driving up costs for working American citizens
- these millions of new workers blow out the Supply curve, keeping wages low for blue collar and service workers, and also pushing older and frail workers into unemployment and / or homelessness
- wide open border run by the cartels, who pumped in Billions of dollars worth of highly dangerous, addictive drugs, helping spur our homeless travesty (former LA County Sheriff)
- areas like northern California now run by the cartels
- wide open border facilitated human and child trafficking, large-scale r*pe, and worse
- some argue Democrats purposefully wanted to create more welfare dependants to add to their future voting block
