I'd like to know who to believe in Oakland city politics right now. Had I been registered in Oakland, I would've voted for Loren Taylor. And yet, he seems like a business-as-usual guy. Not sure how much to believe out of the current Mayor right now, but up to last week, I didn't think she was as bad as, say, the DA. Her (former) chief-of-staff seems a little bit too eager to "tell it like it is".
One thing for sure, when you're the mayor of a city and there's a crisis (of any kind, even personal), you don't hole up for four days. You put yourself out there and try and lead.

No expert here, but I don't think it's wise to plug a structural deficit w one-time funds. And to lose control of such a prime site.
BTW, the black-owned sports group leading the effort may be involved in two lawsuits. One alleges a key player set up a new entity to cut out major owners. I don't think the NFL will bring back a team for Oakland when they failed over decades to secure the Raiders, and with the city in shambles.

I like Oakland, but it seems to be in a death spiral. You can't keep businesses there with out-of-control crime. Restaurants and hotels closing. Colleagues visited recently, and I don't think they'll stay in Oakland again.
I'd clean up JLS and Lake Merritt shopping areas, and try to figure out a collaborative way to remove 15,000 abandoned / stripped cars. But that also entails reducing the inflow (thefts), yet OPD is understaffed. Law and order is a basic need to right the mothership.

3. The City reportedly illegally deleted all video evidence from inside and outside City Hall on the day that Sheng filed.
4. Prior to the November 2022 election date, the City of Oakland Ethics Commission received a complaint regarding the late filing, but reportedly failed to respond nor take any action.
5. One week prior to the election date, Andy Duong (now under FBI investigation along with Thao) attended a Sheng Thao campaign event and illegally conspired with Mario Juarez by paying Mario a total of $70,000 to create a racist negative campaign ad against her opponent, Loren Taylor, a Black man. The ad, which darkened Taylor's skin and made his eyes red, contributed to his loss by only 677 votes.
6. During the count of ballots, the County Registrar of Voters (ROV) disqualified over 3,000 Rank Choice Voter ballots that were received from predominately black neighborhoods in Oakland. The ROV refuses to indicate why those ballots were disqualified.

If police take 9 hours to respond to this, nothing is safe and it makes living and owning something there scary.
