Most of the folks breaking into and/or stealing cars in my neighborhood seem to be black or hispanic. The guy who rode up on a bike into my work parking lot and broke into cars two weeks ago was black. Beyond that, I defer to crime statistics.

Interesting that the owner blames crime but it says in the article that business is only at 25% of prepandemic levels. Is crime really the primary reason he lost 75% of his customers? It is possible but I think the pandemic had something to do with it.

A lot beat cops in Oakland have given up. My Oakland property is on a dead end and they park there to eat /break time and everytime we talk they sound like the problems created by politicians are not their problem to fix. Too many immigrants and in turn believe they are the ones doing the majority of armed robberies/take over(fake sideshow) the young black population has dwindled. Immigrants and their offspring don't care because they think they are white because they not Black.

She was on the city council, which is a pretty normal progression to Mayor. That said, I was surprised she won after she represented my district and I'd barely heard about anything she did on the council, aside from standard ribbon-cutting type stuff.

Yeah last few times I called 911 in Oakland (over the past couple yrs) I got a busy signal or answering machine.

I reported a dead mutilated dog of E. 14th. /53rd and got a quicker response from animal control smh

Regardless of what this group is doing, is there not still an increase in crime? People always want to focus on the "narrative," but ultimately the reality on the ground will drive voter behavior.
