Even Barack Obama, probably when he needed political points, delineated the problem.

In contrast, Ethiopian- and Nigerian-Americans don't seem to have this widespread problem.

Not me…but in July, 1974, I did attend the Day on the Green in Oakland with CSN&Y, The Band, Joe Walsh & Barnstorm and Jesse Colin Young. My buddy took these photos:




*This photo of Neil Young exceeds the ability to upload it all.

*If a drug addled memory serves, I think Rick Derringer appeared as an unscheduled guest performer and played his hit Jump, Jump, Jump which I thought was a solid song. I can't confirm this with my research but I think Bill Graham was just doing a buddy a solid. Rick played a Led Zep DOTG in '77 but I didn't attend.

I was friends with Dan Medlin in the 1980's when he had retired from the NFL (Raiders and Tampa Bay). He had great stories, among them being The Tooz' designated baby sitter at Super Bowl XI (1977) Raiders vs Vikings.



* I went to the 1983 Crosby with Dan at Pebble. As we were walking past the Lodge, John Madden was standing on the balcony of his room yelling, "DANNY! DANNY!" We stopped and chatted. I never said a word. Just took it all in and felt lucky to be standing there.

San Francisco crime had large drops in certain crimes (ex murder), but I don't trust or believe officials patting themselves on the back. Why the drops with an understaffed SFPD?

Does fentanyl have a large number of criminals strung out and incapable of committing crime?; have stratospheric rents driven those more likely to commit crime to flee the city?; did veteran prosecutors hired from Oakland have an immediate impact; and / or can we thank Urban Alchemy community ambassadors?

Not all Americans. My guess is you'll find less than two, probably zero, Japanese-, Chinese-, Ethiopian-, Korean-, Jewish-, Irish-, Sikh, East Indian-, or Cuban-Americans - committing these crimes.

And probably few who were raised with a Father in the home for 20 years.

Racism is the inherited legacy culture (mindset) for both whites and blacks. We all need to continue to do our part to see society as We and Us in order to leave it in the past.

We and Us didn't bipartisan to get some fresh drip.

Punish thieves, period. Change anti-social behavior. Not only is Three Strikes gone, we have cases whete career criminals are arrested 50, 70, 80 times, and then walk free as a bird.

So not only is there no deterrent, crime is condoned; it is also highly inefficient and the societal and economic costs are monumental and wide ranging.

What causes crime?
What cause an innocent newborn to develop into a criminal that you despise and wish to lock up?

If you think it's just "them" because it's in their dna, then you are never going to be a part of any solution. You think it's unimprovable.

If you think it's a product of nurture, then I ask you to think up solutions.

Does simply locking people up make usa a better nation over the long haul?


Maybe you or your new political party envision just shipping Mexicans off, locking up blacks, and putting tariffs on Chinese imports, but that's not very deep thinking.

How old are you?
How much longer are you going to live?

I challenge you to post solutions that will pay dividends 100 years from now, not during the puny remaining years of your existence.

Short-term: crack down on "professional" thieves and "small" crimes
Longer-term: invest in public education

Vivek wasn't entirely wrong: do you know how many Gen Z think they're going to make it being influencers? That is why they're on their phones all the time... it's like an internship or something!

I have greatly appreciated Barbara Lee being my Congresswoman, but yeah. Ron Dellums made the same move (Representative to Oakland Mayor) and it only went so-so. Age and also something of a different skill set.

Well, we know that Progressive policies or experiments often fail.

1. Require teachers to pass a real teaching exam
2. Require a high school exit exam (CA had a test which only required 60% correct answers on 10th grade content)
3. Require reading proficiency for early release from prison; if someone already gas a 10th grade level, require 11th or 12th grade level)
