Are we applauding the restraint of a military that has killed 89 UN workers, the most of any conflict, ever?

37 journalists and counting, the most in any conflict since measures in 1992?

192 health care workers?

4,000+ children and counting? In 2022 in all of Ukraine, 477 children died in a calendar year. We have ten times that figure in a month in Gaza, and we're celebrating the lengths Israel is going to avoid casualties?

The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said two days ago:

"There are violations by Hamas when they have human shields. But when one looks at the number of civilians that were killed with the military operations, there is something that is clearly wrong," Guterres told Reuters

I am flabbergasted. The article details how an entire vibrant community that a frantic man insisted was removed from any violence or involvement with Hamas was obliterated, and we're to view this and celebrate this as a heartwarming story of restraint? War is peace, I suppose.
What is the source for your numbers? Spoiler: Hamas. Yet you accept them unquestionably.

In addition, Hagari said, Hamas continued to use hospitals for military purposes. He noted that Israel had previously exposed Hamas's abuse of the Al Shifa hospital. He then went on to describe Hamas activities at other hospitals.

Hagari played video of IDF soldiers exposing a Hamas tunnel opening next to the Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani Hospital, also known as the Qatari hospital, named after the country that funded it. He also said that Hamas terrorists had shot at the IDF from within the hospital, and played a video showing them doing so.

Could we post more misleading content? Summary:
Israel included video of a concrete structure - essentially saying it is an entry to an underground facility - in its video explaining Hamas uses hospitals as cover.
AJ determined the structure was actually a water cistern.
AJ concludes Hamas doesn't have underground facilities underneath hospitals because Israel was wrong about this piece of concrete.

The lovely dramatic music aside...Israel could be wrong about this piece of concrete AND still be right about the existence of underground structures.

That is just sick and perverse blaming the persecution of Jews in Arab countries on Israel. Israel wanted peaceful relations with all Arab nations but the opposite is not true.

This settler colonialist ideology is just as deranged as Marxist-Leninist principles, Nazism, and all the other antisemitic trash.

Israeli Mossad, whose motto is "By way of deception thou shalt do war", waged false flag terror campaigns targeted at Jewish communities in Arab countries like Iraq in order to prompt their emigration to Israel.

They've also conducted false flag bombings of western civilian targets in Arab cities (cultural centers, theaters etc) in order to damage relations between the Arabs and the West, as well as to start building the image in the western psyche of Arabs as terrorists. Those operations have been much more widely known than the aforementioned ones targeting Arab Jewish communities.

Your last point is certainly true, but so far the piece of evidence they've chosen to publicly share to 'prove' tunnels under hospitals is disproven. So the benefit of the doubt associated with the claim that tunnels are under hospitals is not appropriate.

Regardless, I fully reject the premise that the evidence of a Hamas tunnel under a hospital is then grounds to bomb that hospital. Gas the tunnel, flood the tunnel, send dogs into the tunnel, send in special forces. Israel bombing hospitals is part of their Dahiya Doctrine - outlined by former IDF Chief of General Staff Gadi Eizenkot.

The Dahiya Doctrine calls for: "the destruction of the civilian infrastructure of regimes deemed to be hostile as a measure calculated to deny combatants the use of that infrastructure and endorses the employment of disproportionate force to secure that end.

The doctrine is named after the Dahieh neighborhood of Beirut, where Hezbollah was headquartered during the 2006 Lebanon War, which were heavily damaged by the IDF.

The UN issued the Goldstone Report following the 2008-2009 Gaza War, finding that the strategy "was designed to punish, humiliate and terrorize a civilian population".

Right, wrong, or otherwise, putting aside the elementary norms of war or morality, has it been effective?

Hezbollah is stronger than ever in Lebanon after Israel implemented the Dahiya Doctrine, It's politically entrenched, considered an exceptionally capable non-state actor, has centralized command, and is well armed. Hamas is as strong as it has ever been, as demonstrated by their attacks on 10/7 and relative levels of success in guerilla warfare.

In a region with growing asymmetric resistance capabilities to Israel's military dominance, destroying civilian infrastructure has not yet proven to be effective to deter or diminish the military strength of Israel's opponents. At a time of increased political pressure, destroying civilian infrastructure has not endeared Israel diplomatically to their neighbors, and is producing negative global and American diplomatic pressure on Israel, potentially limiting the American appetite for escalation, and isolating Israel internationally moreso than ever before.

Israel also released audio from two Hamas members discussing the hospital's current use by Hamas for military purposes. Maybe they are stooges. Maybe Israel doctored the audio.

Maybe, after 15 years, Hamas discontinued its improper use of the hospital.

And maybe we could stop living in a fantasy world, see Hamas for what it is, and not worry about a misidentified concrete cistern.

Having said all that, the death of any Palestinian (or Israeli) civilian is a tragedy. But this is a war. A war started by Hamas where Hamas has said it will not stop waging war - ever. Israel is allowed to defend itself in a war and has gone well beyond the international standards for minimizing civilians deaths in warfare. Far more than the US and other western countries did in Afghanistan, Iraq, and the fight against Al Queda/Isis.

So when people point to the Israel efforts to minimize deaths - which far exceed any other warring nation's - it is not a dismissal of the deaths themselves. It is to point out they were unavoidable given Israel's unequivocal right to defend itself from Hamas. That is the sad reality.

I am sorry, but the statements by MartyrMade (maybe not an unbiased source with that name??) is just emotional stupidity or a flat out lie (MM, not you). Israel calls civilians and drops leaflets warning civilians of pending attacks and advising them to leave the region. If MM was correct they'd abandon those efforts, as they obviously are immensely helpful to Hamas.

Past tense. Used. To reach the common sense understanding that if Hamas used the hospital for war purposes in the past they are virtually certain to be doing it now. 2014 Amnesty International report on Hamas torture and murder of PA and civilians accused of helping Israel:

"As well as carrying out unlawful killings, others abducted by Hamas were subjected to torture, including severe beatings with truncheons, gun butts, hoses and wire or held in stress positions. Some were interrogated and tortured or otherwise ill-treated in a disused outpatient's clinic within the grounds of Gaza City's main al-Shifa hospital. At least three people arrested during the conflict accused of "collaboration" died in custody."

BearGoggles,

On the prior page, you called into question the veracity of the civilian death counts in Gaza, saying they're not to be trusted since they're released by the Gaza Health Ministry, which is therefore run by Hamas.

You were correct to suspect that their numbers were not correct.

The U.S. State Department's Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Barbara Leaf, warned in a Wednesday House Foreign Affairs Committee meeting that the civilian death toll in Gaza is likely higher than estimates suggest, noting that skepticism over the integrity of the statistics released by health authorities in the Hamas-run enclave may undercut the scale of the human catastrophe.

"We think they're very high, frankly, and it could be that they're even higher than are being cited. We'll only know after the guns fall silent."

https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/israel-hamas-war-gaza-strip-2023-11-08/card/state-department-warns-gaza-death-toll-could-be-higher-than-reported-RWmIIiwHT4DfsOaJrZji

I look forward to you moving the goalposts as you did with the UN workers and health workers and children death tolls cited earlier in the thread, that it's actually ok that it's higher, since they're all Hamas terrorists.

Palestinians living in Gaza and the West Bank are issued Israeli ID numbers. The 10,000+ victims that have been named by the Palestinians have been identified with their ID numbers.

As well we also have a fairly good idea about the volume of ammunition unleashed upon the population, and the number of buildings destroyed via satellite imagery and other means, this provides you with a ballpark estimate compatible with the above figure. When you drop tens of thousands of bombs on densely populated neighborhoods, you are certainly going to get a death toll in the thousands.
