This is why I love Bill Maher. Spot on takes... manages to be hilarious in an un-funny situation... still preserves some humanity.
Normally agree with you, but while Bill Maher is a good comedian, he has become America's Piers Morgan: overly obsessed with "Both Sides-ism" and "Anti-woke-ism".
Examples:
1) "Both Sides-ism" : actually, he is less guilty of this than "Anti-woke-ism", because whenever he makes jokes about Biden's old age frailties, he rarely mentions Trump's. But the point remains that he essentially thinks both Biden and Trump are comparable in the number of flaws they have as candidates (when this is of course ridiculous -- Trump is a convicted felon, and has been found liable for sexual harassment and fraud.)
He also (like Morgan) welcomes immoral guests such as Elon Musk.
2) "Anti-woke-ism" : Both Maher and Morgan go on-and-on about trivial "woke" matters such as transexuals competing in women's sports, as if they were a really big deal.
Maher has also become a Bill Ackman clone, supporting Israel unconditionally.
(BTW, did anybody else see Trump's bald head when his comb-over was unglued as he was whisked away yesterday? This guy is the phoniest con-man ever to walk the planet, and yet even a few Cal grads are sold!)
Respectfully disagree about the both-sides-ism: He often says that Trump and the right are way worse. He flat-out says that. Often.
Regarding the anti-woke-ism, I wish he would find a better word than the second, pejorative definition of the word "woke" and, yes, he takes it a little too far (I agree with you about the women's sports issue), but the left does take some of the stuff too far, to the point where most people just cringe.
Yes, he is too supportive of the Israeli government, IMO. I also disagree with him on some of his medical and higher education. So if I'm looking for someone who aligns with me the closest on the issues of the day, it is not him.
Still, I appreciate most of his stances (~80%?), he cracks me up and I like the way he calls out bs.
Opinions may vary, granted.
